UN best countries to live: Norway ranked as best country to live in

Norway ranked as best country to live in

OSLO (AP) — The United Nations ranked Norway as the best country to live in for a sixth consecutive year Thursday, prompting the country's aid minister to tell Norwegians to stop whining about wanting more.

Oil-rich Norway, with its generous welfare state, topped the U.N.
Development Program's human development index, based on such criteria as life expectancy, education and income. Iceland was No. 2, followed by Australia, Ireland, Sweden, Canada, Japan and the United States.

Despite wealth, high levels of education, low unemployment, and an economic boom, Norwegians often complain of high taxes and of weaknesses in their cradle-to-grave welfare state, such as waiting lists at hospitals and a shortage of public care for both children and the elderly.

"There are unsolved problems in Norway, but let us battle this culture of whining, and look at the future with optimism," Aid Minister Erik Solheim was quoted as saying in an interview with the Norwegian news agency NTB.

According to the study, Norwegians earn 40 times more than the study's lowest- ranked country, Niger, live almost twice as long, and have nearly five times the literacy rate.

Solheim said instead of complaining, Norwegians should work on solving those problems, and to share their wealth with poorer countries. Norway is already one of the world's most generous foreign aid donors per capita, giving nearly 1% of its gross national product.

"The top place should make us show humility," said Solheim in the NTB interview. "Norway should be seen as a modern, rich and successful society, but should also be seen as a generous country. The world must see us as rich and generous, not rich and miserly."

Norway, a nation of 4.6 million people, is the world's third-largest oil exporter, after Saudi Arabia.

The five countries with the lowest scores were Guinea-Bissau in 173rd place, Burkina Faso as 174, Mali as 175, Sierra Leone as 176, and Niger 177. The report was unable to rank 17 countries, such as Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia, because there was insufficient data.
The top ten is as follows:

1. Norway
2. Iceland
3. Australia
4. Ireland
5. Sweden
6. Canada
7. Japan
8. the United States
9. Switzerland
10. the Netherlands

linky.

This is fine, but my comment on the way the UN's "best countries to live list" is compiled is that they have "women's advancement" as a factor in deciding the overall quality of life in countries.

My argument against this is what does it matter how many for example: female judges there are and such? Things like this don't have a influence on the quality of life in countries at all!

So this is a completely unnecessary factor for deciding what position countries should be in such lists.

~ A man needs a woman like a lion needs a stove. ~

~ Women deserve only equal opportunity, not equal outcomes. ~

~ Men are not collectively "guilty" of anything. ~

~ Never needing to be pregnant is a blessing. ~

~ Feminist ideology “men have to respect women, but women have no reason to respect men” ~

~ Everybody makes choices, and nobody should be entitled to special treatment because of those choices.
Equal results based on unequal treatment amounts to no kind of equality at all. ~

Re: UN best countries to live: Norway ranked as best country to live in

The UN is a detestable communistic beauracracy condemned out of its own mouth.
Anything they recommend treat with supreme suspicion.
The UN is a parasitic organism, that must be cured.
The more feminist influence the higher the suicide rate for men and the more injustices. The UN as I have read on their website is fundamentally a feministic communistic UN-elected body ...

feminism is a disease the Doc is working on a cure. Symptoms include compulsive liar, constant aggression, allergic to logic, often affects women who are fat with short hair and big earings, but can be normal looking.
Reason tablets three taken daily. If the sufferer displays shaming tactics double the dose. Remarkably the illness disappears in disaster zones.

Does anyone else catch the glaring proof of matriarchal inferiority presented in these rankings?

The irony is nothing short of overwhelming. Each and every one of those ten nations listed as possessing a high quality standard of living shares an ancient history firmly and inexorably rooted in a past rife with patriarchal ascendancy. Hell, one of those nations (Japan) still is almost wholly patriarchal.

The poorest and least successful nations ( Burkina Faso, Mali, etc), however, are those whose ancient history is prominently rooted in a tribal/matriarchal society.

Now the question is this: how long until those top ten nations eventually begin to reap the rewards of their misguided ethics? And which warrior-oriented patriarchal nation will be next to occupy the top of the collective global food chain?

Things change. Since Tyrael's post in 2006, Iceland has gone belly up and more nig-nogs have moved to Australia. Many from friggin' Ireland. The main problem is that these nig-nogs have voted a KRudd Labour Government in. We are on the way to going belly up too.

I'm surprised the US made that list at all, since we have the highest rate of people in jails and prisons of any country in the world.

"Civilization can only revive when there shall come into being in a number of individuals a new tone of mind, independent of the prevalent one among the crowds, and in opposition to it -- a tone of mind which will gradually win influence over the collective one, and in the end determine its character. Only an ethical movement can rescue us from barbarism, and the ethical comes into existence only in individuals."

Re: UN best countries to live: Norway ranked as best country to live in

75 years ago, 84 percent of all US households = Married

Now it is about 47-48%

New York City is at 26%

Parts of Utah are at 70%

San Francisco, CA has nearly 2% male gay couples.

Why marry? It's for women most seem to conclude since men are disinclined to marry.

Republicans overwhelmingly hail from districts that have high percentages of married people and lots of children; whereas districts represented by Democrats are stocked with more people who have never married and those who have few children. I'm Republican and would like to see traditional marriage strengthened and the divorce incentive greatly reduced. Such that more people marry and stay married.

Right now the only group that is fighting hard to marry is gays!

Icelands entire population is hardly more than a large British town..

300,000. Hard to imagine how these low population countries can be so high on the standard of living scale.

Is not almost the entire Icelandic economy based on one single Toxic aluminium plant though?
