I saw a report on BBC news this afternoon.

It said there is a pay gap of 17% between men and women.

The main causes were

1. women choosing different careers,
and
2. women working part time after having a baby.

Discrimination had nothing to do with it.

Why should women choosing lower paid (read: easier) jobs be any concern? There is a trade off between salary and other benefits.

Didn't the government introduce new legislation not that long ago to make it easier for women to work part time after having a baby? If the pay gap is such a problem why did they do that?

The hypocrisy is rather amazing, isn't it?

A probable reason for that is given on a german site by medical doctors.

As more and more women achieve to get highpowered Tjobs - after all, what they were whining for, for years - they also have to cope with the downsides of the highly stressful jobs. A sharp increase in heartattacks, ulcers and other medical conditions connected with manager position - including suicide is the result.

Yes, it always amazes me (in a bad way, of course), how everybody fails to make the connection, I mean, one can constantly hear stuff like "Men were privileged, women couldn't work yada yada yada". Now, when women work, they suddenly say: "Oh, that's so stressful". So for all those "privileged" years men had to suffer from stress too, then. But no, no, they were just privileged, only women experience stress at work.
