Some medical comments 1. Background. Despite the impression given by the media, the actual number of homosexuals is quite small. Essentially all surveys show the number of homosexuals to be only 1-3% of the population. The number of homosexuals living in 'common law partnerships’ is even less, only 0.5% of all couples. This contrasts with 70% of all households with a married couple. The pressure for introducing same-sex marriages comes from a very small section of society.
2. Health risks of the homosexual lifestyle. The media portrays the homosexual lifestyle and relationships as happy, healthy and stable. However, the homosexual lifestyle is associated with a large number of very serious physical and emotional health consequences. Many ‘committed’ homosexual relationships only last a few years. This raises doubts as to whether children raised in same-sex households are being raised in a protective environment. A. There are very high rates of sexual promiscuity among the homosexual population with short duration of even ‘committed’ relationships.
3. Homosexuality and pedophilia. Any attempts to legalise gay marriage should be aware of the link between homosexuality and pedophilia. While the majority of homosexuals are not involved in pedophilia, it is of grave concern that there is a disproportionately greater number of homosexuals among pedophiles and an overlap between the gay movement and the movement to make pedophilia acceptable
4. ‘Gay marriage’. Gay activists claim that there is no difference between children raised in a homosexual as opposed to a heterosexual household. However, essentially all studies that show that there is no difference have been criticised because of poor research quality. Despite the shortcomings, the studies seem to suggest that children raised in same-sex parents may be more sexually promiscuous and more likely to become homosexuals.
5. Biological evidence regarding gender development. Despite all the impression given by the media, homosexuality is neither an entirely innate condition nor is it unchangeable. The so-called ‘gay gene’ has never been found. There are studies that show it is possible to change sexual orientation from predominantly homosexual to predominantly heterosexual orientation.
6. Benefits of traditional marriage. There are significant benefits from (heterosexual) marriage for individual and society. Heterosexually married couples are, on average, healthier, have fewer psychological problems and live longer than cohabiting or single individuals. Government policy therefore should be to support and strengthen heterosexual marriage.
7. Adverse effects of family breakdown. There is a wealth of evidence linking family breakdown with many adverse health outcomes for children and society as a whole. Government policy therefore should be to strengthen the marriage based family of husband and wife. ‘Gay marriages’, with their inherent instability, will contribute to the many adverse effects family breakdown has on children and on society as a whole.

A Suspect Class? Family Research Council's religious liberty panel, held yesterday to a standing-room-only crowd, covered some of the important questions that Christians and all religious individuals and organizations should be asking:What will be the effect on religious institutions in light of the California same-sex marriage ruling? Will churches and pastors have to worry about the law abandoning their First Amendment right? The panelists all agreed on one thing: that the legalization of same-sex marriage will have an effect on the religious freedom of those who believe it is wrong. The homosexual advocate on the panel, who prefers professional and ongoing dialogue on the issue, also admitted that many homosexual activists feel that Christians and other religious entities need to "get over it." Panelists from the Alliance Defense Fund, the Becket Fund, and other religious liberty advocates say that the First Amendment rights of religious Americans are already under fire and in danger of losing even more ground. In recent years, there have been legal clashes around the country between homosexual activists fighting for forced acceptance and religious organizations who hold that homosexuality is a sin. In many of those cases, the equality of the homosexual activists prevailed over the rights of religious individuals and organizations. Additionally, the California Supreme Court went one step further and granted homosexuals special legal protection by making them a "suspect class." Therefore, they will receive the same kind of increased legal protection that confronts racial bias in America. It is a difficult issue and legal scholars are debating what effect all this will have on churches and organizations, including the very likely outcome that churches that refuse to marry (or as the state will view it, "discriminate against") homosexuals, may lose their tax exempt status among other results... One of the sordid features of the homosexual lifestyle is the frequency with which male homosexuals engage in furtive, anonymous encounters in public places. In Bristol, England, the city council wants to prune bushes in an area known as the Downs to improve the landscape and encourage wildlife. But a gay rights group is opposing the move on the grounds of discrimination, since the area has become a mecca for homosexuals looking for anonymous outdoor sexual encounters who use the undergrowth as a visual screen. Last year, some firemen stumbled across an outdoor gay sex session there and were fined $2,000 by their superiors for shining their flashlights into the undergrowth. Work on the project has been delayed while the city talks with gay rights groups over the matter, even though 250 people were arrested in the area last year alone for illegal public sexual activity. Wow, what a thread. Homosexual Man Sues Bible Publishers over Scripture Verses against Homosexuality By Peter J. Smith NASHVILLE, Tennessee, July 11, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A homosexual man upset by biblical verses condemning homosexuality as a sin has decided - in lieu of suing God or claiming damages from the Holy Spirit - instead to go after two Christian publishers for their versions of the Bible, which he says violate his constitutional rights and have caused him emotional pain and mental instability. Bradley LaShawn Fowler of Canton, Michigan filed a suit in US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on July 7 against Zondervan Publishing House Corp. seeking $60 million. Fowler also filed another suit earlier in June seeking $10 million from Thomas Nelson Publishing, based in Nashville, Tennessee. Fowler is representing himself in both cases. U.S. District Judge Julian Abele Cook Jr. declined Fowler's request for a court-appointed attorney to represent him in the Thomas Nelson case, saying, "The Court has some very genuine concerns about the nature and efficacy of these claims." Fowler, 39, blames references to homosexuality as a sin in Zondervan's Bible for his poor relationship with his family, his own periods of "demoralization, chaos and bewilderment," and even the death of homosexual Matthew Shepard. Shepard was brutally murdered in 1998 in a crime that was widely reported as being motivated by Shepard's homosexuality, although a 2004 ABC report has since offered evidence disputing that claim. Fowler said he was raised with a religious background that taught him homosexuality was a sinful lifestyle. "That's why I was completely distraught after discovering the term - homosexual - was added to the bible, in 1982, and then removed, in 1994 without any consideration to the many victims who committed suicide or were murdered because of their sexual preference of homosexuality," he writes on his blog "Bradley-Almighty." He continues, "Sadly enough though, the publishing company that initiated this mental war against homosexuals has never attempted to apologize to Matthew Shepard or anyone else who lost their life, because of their malicious and strict liabilities." Fowler says the Bible publishers are part of a vast conspiracy to design a sacred document to cause "me or anyone who is a homosexual to endure verbal abuse, discrimination, episodes of hate, and physical violence...including murder." Fowler says he is most particularly unhappy with the Zondervan Bible's use of the word "homosexual" over other words indicating the same thing. On his blog, Fowler explains that in the 1964 edition of the Bible, the word used in 1 Corinthians Six, verse Nine was "effeminates," with the passage reading as follows: "Know ye not that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminates, nor abusers of themselves with mankind…" In the 1982 edition the word "effeminates" was translated as "homosexuals," while in the 1987 version it was translated, "those who participate in homosexual behavior." But the 1994 edition, says Fowler, again denounces "effeminates" and "abusers of themselves with mankind." Fowler then asks his readers, "Which one of these is truth? Which one is not?" He then continues to say that the publisher should have issued a warning about the name change, claiming it resulted in violence against homosexuals. The lawsuit also may serve as a publicity boost for Fowler's self-proclaimed Biblical scholarship, which is being debuted in his forthcoming work, "365 Reason's to Study the Bible." One description says the book is "compiled with extensive research gathered for a civil suit filed against one of nations largest and most respected bible publishing companies in America," and another says it takes the reader "on a journey through time...slowly exposing hidden secrets bible publishers have fought feverishly to keep hidden from the general public for centuries. An avalanche of secrets that are keeping millions around the world enslaved today." A company spokesman for Zondervan told WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids that the publishing house does not translate the Bible or own the copyright, but relies rather on the "scholarly judgment of credible translation committees." Lillian Ladele, the devout Christian registrar in England who won a landmark legal battle last week over her refusal to conduct gay "weddings," revealed details yesterday of the bullying campaign she suffered at the hands of her politically correct colleagues for her stand. She said, "This experience has shattered me. It has been so overwhelming. For more than two years of my life I was treated as though I was full of hate, which is just not me at all. All I ever wanted was to have my beliefs respected, just as I try to respect the views of others, even if I don't agree with them."
