In 2004, approximately 230,110 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed and 29,900 men will die of the disease, according to the American Cancer Society. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths of men in the United States, after lung cancer, and the sixth leading cause of death of men overall.
I was in hospital not so long ago, and while i was sitting around waiting, i happened to read a flier on the wall which discussed the various cancers.
I was VERY surprised* to read that marginally more men are killed by prostate cancer than women are killed by breast cancer.
Naturally, lacking the financial support that is available to breast cancer programmes, it is no surprise that more men are dying. And still, we're awaiting a national screening programme that women have two of: Cervical & Breast screenings.
*surprised in that usually, most fliers have focused entirely on breast cancer & marginalized men's prostate cancer - In MY experience, at least

So I smiled and was happy, and behold... Things did get worse.
