Some people believe (or are incorrectly informed) in the myth that women are less violent.
The first gay marriage in New Hampshire or Massachusetts ended in less then a year because of Domestic Violence.

I read somewhere, and I've been trying to find that site, that lesbians have the highest rate of DV, male/male partners the lowest rate, and heterosexuals in the middle. That, I'm assuming, is because women are more emotional and men tend to be more logical.

I have to kind of chuckle at that...feminists push lesbianism and hate men because "they're batterers," yet lesbian couples are the most at risk!

As far as the UK is concerned over the question of domestic violence and violent relationships, it is indeed true that the highest rates of abuse - both physical and verbal - are found in lesbian relationships. Interestingly, the relationships with the lowest incidence of both physical and verbal abuse and overall domestic violence are those among male gay couples. As stated above, heterosexual relationships come in between the two.

It really is difficult to find hard copy statistics to prove all this which to my mind is pretty strange to say the least. I really do suspect that some statistics are suppressed while others receive full on publicity. However, take it from me that I have seen official local Police figures (via a police officer mate of mine) for this particular area of the UK bearing out what I say in my first paragraph.

Civil Partnerships were introduced in the UK in December 2005. These are, of course, legal unions with virtually all the same rights and responsibilities as "normal" marriage, but without any religious involvement. Male gay unions have exceeded female unions by a ratio of about 5:2 since Dec 2005, but when these relationships break down, very much as with "normal" marriage, CPs have to go through the same legal procedures to effect a divorce. The first two official dissolutions of CPs in the UK involved lesbian couples, one after less than a month! I don't know the actual ratio of male/female dissolution statistics.

I have personal knowledge of how nasty a lesbian relationship can be - not a CP in this case, just a relationship of fairly short duration. They had a blazing row, a fierce scrap ensued, articles flung and smashed and all that caper and when one of the women returned home from work a day later she found all her possessions chucked out on the front lawn, and all locks changed on the house doors.

I'm not saying that this never happens in male gay relationships, maybe it does or maybe it doesn't - I would suggest it may well happen but the official statistics suggest it is nothing like as prevalent as it is among the females.
