    Fatherless Homes Breed Violence

According to Getting Men Involved: The Newsletter of the Bay Area Male Involvement Network, Spring 1997:

    Begin quote:
    • 63% of youth suicides are from fatherless homes (Source: U.S. D.H.H.S., Bureau of the Census
    • 90% of all homeless and runaway children are from fatherless homes
    • 85% of all children that exhibit behavioral disorders come from fatherless homes (Source: Center for Disease Control)
    • 80% of rapists motivated with displaced anger come from fatherless homes (Source: Criminal Justice & Behavior, Vol 14, p. 403-26, 1978.)
    • 71% of all high school dropouts come from fatherless homes (Source: National Principals Association Report on the State of High Schools.)
    • 75% of all adolescent patients in chemical abuse centers come from fatherless homes (Source: Rainbows for all Gods Children.)
    • 70% of juveniles in state-operated institutions come from fatherless homes (Source: U.S. Dept. of Justice, Special Report, Sept 1988)
    • 85% of all youths sitting in prisons grew up in a fatherless home (Source: Fulton Co. Georgia jail populations, Texas Dept. of Corrections 1992)
(Because only a portion of each age group grew up in a fatherless home,) these statistics translate to mean that children from fatherless homes are:
    • 5 times more likely to commit suicide
    • 32 times more likely to run away
    • 20 times more likely to have behavioral disorders
    • 14 times more likely to commit rape
    • 9 times more likely to drop out of high school
    • 10 times more likely to abuse chemical substances
    • 9 times more likely to end up in a state-operated institution
    • 20 times more likely to end up in prison.
    end quote

Courtesy Mark Hall, Fathers Manifesto And also at the Fathers Manifesto site: More than half of the juveniles executed around the world were executed in the US, which has less than 5% of the world's population. http://fathers.ourfamily.com/damages.htm

To make these statistics relevant you need to compare them with motherless homes and correlate the results with the ratio of fatherless to motherless kids.

Yea, but it still looks quite depressing.

For the sake of discussion lets assume that %50 of kids live in mom&dad homes, that still means a kid raised without a father is twice as likely to runaway than one with a mom and dad. I'd wager that less than %50 of kids grow up in fatherless households so the numbers get even worse.

Any kid raised by a single parent has a depressing life. For instance, I realize how much of a influence both my parents had on me and I have to say that neither would have done a great job raising me by himself/herself.

That's why I believe in joint custodies. I mean, I hope that people are mature enough to set aside their differences and work together for their kids.

Hmm...maybe if the state took the incentive out of divorce more families would stay intact.

BTW, most of the immature ones, the ones who withhold children from the other parent...are women.

I'm willing to wager that this has more to do with the fact that most single-parents families are more likely to fall below the poverty line.

No, I think that it's a lot more important to have both parents. My parents combined make under the poverty level for a single person in the US and 3 of us live on that money.

Whether or not you live off the money has nothing to do with. Of course three people can live off the money they earn, even if it is below the poverty line. Your personal experience doesn't negate the fact that there is a gap between the success of kids from affluent homes, and kids from low-income houses in school, and that poorer kids are more likely to drop out of high school, or not to not seek post-secondary education. And, let's face it: it's not the highly educated who are winding up in penitentiaries.
There are clearly other factors contributing to this phenomena, it's not simply that these kids are coming from broken homes.

Obviously there's a multitude of factors, but being raised by a single parent has a huge toll on one's education as a child. Correlation isn't the same thing as causation. If I shoot someone, it doesn't mean that I did it because I was poor. lol

    boys cannot live following their silly noses like wimyn can as the society expects men to perform not just be a body that puts out;

unfortunatley the boys have acquired theirs mothers life skills and slack n idle attitudes and the sense of entitlement that most wimyn have (layabout rip off artist)

there is a negative attitude nowdays anyway to male students so what boy can beat the system loaded agin them eg Duke Lacrosse

....leaving behind a caring, sharing, nurturing, empathetic mother who is expert in communication and conflict resolution and works her fingers to the bone for 'her' children.

    Must be the kids' fault.

I have tried all my life to leave the place better than I found it.
But there are 6 billion other buggers out there messing it up.
    I am outnumbered.
