Marriage Savers



While taking a brief (yet painful) visit to the Pandagonia website, I came across a post maligning a group of "anti-divorce nuts" called Marriage Savers. Spurred by my general mantra that anything radical feminists are against is something worth looking into....I decided to check out the Marriage Saver's site.

What are these vile people harping on about that has gotten the feminists in a huff? Well, allow me to quote some of the 'radical rhetoric' featured on their webpage,

Marriage Savers is a Proven Way to Increase the Success of Marriage, Reduce Divorce Rates, and Provide a Better Environment for Children to Thrive.

Isn't that terrible? How horrible, how extreme and how radical of them. Of course, that's not all....they actually dare to suggest an end to no-fault divorces. Now, one might think such a thing would have an effect upon both men and women....as both men and women can file for no-fault divorces--not so, says the rad fems. Nope, this is merely a ploy to keep women caged and trapped.

Time and again I hear the claim that feminism is not against family; is not against marriage....I have to beg to differ. What fault could one find in people banning together to try and counter the divorce epidemic? Who could disparage an effort to keep marriages and families together? Feminists, that's who.

When I read these sites it becomes apparent that divorce is not viewed as being the horrible, painful, destructive occurrence that it is, but as a tool to liberate women from their state of oppression. For radical feminists, divorce is far from a failure....it is a triumph. Each incidence of a wife filing for divorce signifies another woman who's broken free from the oppressive chains of the patriarchy.

I'm not going to link to the Pandagonia website but if you're interested in reading the article it's the one featuring a picture of a cage and bearing the title, "Conservatives continue to rise the alarm: Wives are escaping"......enough said.

on one hand, shame men for choosing not to get married or be family oreinted, but at the same time encourage women to divorce the men that do get married

I'm all for saving marriages that can be saved. But it takes TWO- if one is unwilling to make the effort, it's not going to work. I don't believe in the government having the authority to keep people married against their will.

Unusual for a feminist to not condone government intrusion into family matters..?

What she's advocating is complete "no fault" divorce on the female's whim, along with all the support, keep the children, etc., that feminism has long gained as victory. SHe objects to the thought that marriage might become legally binding on females.

Nobody can be kept in a marriage against their willl....they always have the option to leave. No-fault divorces have made it disgustingly easy and, for women, even beneficial, to end a marriage and by doing so have nearly destroyed the institution of marriage. There was a time when people thought long and hard before making their wedding vows because they understood that it was for life. Only under the most extreme circumstances were divorces ever considered. Now, marriage is entered into with the knowledge that if things don't work out, if they get difficult, if I get bored....I can always just get a divorce.

I ran into a girl I used to work with the other day, she's not quite 30 and is on her 4th divorce (all instigated by her). As soon as things got difficult or hard, she just got a divorce because she knew she could. It would be nice to think that despite no-fault divorce laws, people would fight to keep their marriage together through the worst and the best of times simply as a matter of personal honor and integrity....sadly that's very seldom the case.

As for government interference, I'm curious where you stand regarding other forms of government interference, such as when the government dictates how often a father gets to see his children or how he's going to support them? Are you as stringent in your policies then?

IMO marrying vs staying single for men is like the comparison of using a sleazy check cashing/payday loan place or a wells fargo to handle your finances

There are so many different issues (types of) government "intrusion", and each one is worthy of being evaluated separately. In other words, I have not one stance (the same stance) for every issue. It all depends on which one we're talking about. And in this case, we're talking about no fault divorces. Forcing people to stay married against their will is not beneficial to society. Do you think it's good for kids to grow up in a household where there is constant discord?

divorce shoudnt be hard..........I mean I would rather give the broad her walking papers now than be in the delivery room 2 years later and have to OJ the bitch when teh baby comes out looking just like jimmy the mailman
