The Greatest of Men

For our fathers, who give their very all for us......

Only a Dad
Edgar A. Guest

Only a dad with a tired face,
Coming home from the daily race,
Bringing little of gold or fame
To show how well he has played the game;
But glad in his heart that his own rejoice
To see him come and to hear his voice.

Only a dad with a brood of four,
One of ten million men or more
Plodding along in the daily strife,
Bearing the whips and the scorns of life,
With never a whimper of pain or hate,
For the sake of those who at home await.

Only a dad, neither rich nor proud,
Merely one of the surging crowd,
Toiling, striving from day to day,
Facing whatever may come his way,
Silent whenever the harsh condemn,
And bearing it all for the love of them.

Only a dad but he gives his all,
To smooth the way for his children small,
Doing with courage stern and grim
The deeds that his father did for him.
This is the line that for him I pen:
Only a dad, but the best of men.

Re: The Greatest of Men

My dad taught me self-discipline. He taught me the value of hard work. He taught me about honesty, integrity, and trust. He taught me about respect, and responsibility. He taught me to be accountable for my behavior. When my mother didn't want me, it was my dad who was there. My parents divorced when I was nine, but my dad was still always there. He never quit caring and he never quit trying. He still came to all my band concerts and my softball games, and spent time with me every chance he could. I know he loves me. And I admire my dad. He's a principled man. He never compromises his values. His word is one that I could always rely on. He never made a promise that he didn't keep. I love him dearly.

Thanks, Dad.

Excellent poem

.

Thomas Jefferson once said "It takes time to persuade men to do even what is for their own good."

Feminuts are stupid, throw some common sense at them. They won't know what hit them.

I have no words... I can't respond... and I can't tell you how my heart just sank.

Thank you.

Simply and profoundly powerful. Thank you.

Re: The Greatest of Men

It's an amazing poem, isn't it? I've never found another poem for fathers that I liked as much and what better time to post such an accurate and honest reflection than on Father's Day.
