I recieved this in an e-mail recently, 'A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take away everything you have.' - Thomas Jefferson More... "I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do." - Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird http://equalbutdifferent.blogspot.com/

Nice catchy heading Kim. And nice story. They catch wild pigs a different way in NZ but I get the story line.

Yes it creeps up and encircles, this evil. Bit by bit. Then goodness is trapped and 'contained'. We have the trappers thinking they are doing good, and trapping wild pigs may have some merit. The 'progams' of helping people in distress has merit but it that is the free corn. There are people in society who need some help, but evryone wants the free corn and more and more 'programs' grow and spread like a plague and the demands for help grows from people who don't need it. I have had some experience with wild pigs too. In Malaysia (way back in the 60's) I used to hunt them from time to time. I had a friend, a tiny chinese fellow called Bill Wee, Bill taught me the finer points of bowmanship. He'd phone me from time to time and ask me to get a couple of rifles out of the armoury and go with him up country to the rubber plantations. The pigs would attack the plantation workers, sometimes killing them. The undead ones would be left horribly gored. These were big tuskers. We took our bows with 32" fibre-glass arrows with one inch, two bladed heads, razor sharp. (This was before carbon composite arrows). We didn't use fences though. I had a modest 40lb recurve bow and Bill's was even lighter at 36lb. We'd track for the best part of the day to find the pigs and attract their attention. - I guess we were the corn ! One or the other would stand with a bow, with the other just behind with a rifle - a sort of CYA, just in case. The idea was to get the pig with an arrow. This was the tricky bit. You had to get the pig through the top of the snout at about 30 ft. It had to be close or the arrow wouldn't penetrate. So a big bugger would come at you like a train, all smiles and tusks, snorting like a banshee, going at a frightening rate of knots and you had to just stand there, waiting for the distance to close. At 35' you shot. The arrow would hit and the pig would keep coming, the momentum expending in the gap, and it would drop at your feet. hehehe. Of course, if the arrow's angle and speed or the head bobbing meant that the arrow didn't crack it's skull, there was always a second or two for an FMJ to get it. But we never had to use the rifle. It's astonishing just how accurate and perfect your arrow flies when you are about to be gored by a huge nasty pig. ![]() There are times when I feel like taking my bow and go hunting Feminazis and Judges, but my bow - a 65lb composite now - sits on the wall, unused for a few years, alongside my few competition medals. The last one was for State Champion, Clout shooting - that's over 180 yards distance. Knackered Old Shit Division of course. I have tried all my life to leave the place better than I found it. But there are 6 billion other buggers out there messing it up. I am outnumbered. But... YOU don't just make a difference, you make THE difference. ![]()
