The Bible For Women

I've seen on more than one occasion on movies and television, Cosmopolitan magazine being referred to as 'the Bible for women'. I don't read Cosmo but I have read the covers while waiting in line at the grocery store to see what sage advice this publication must offer to be called the Bible for women. There are, of course, beauty tips, diet tips, fashion advice, sex advice, dating advice, divorce advice.......Interestingly enough, the magazine that's heralded as the be-all, end-all of advice for women, their Bible, never once gives advice on how to be a good person. There's no articles on being honest, on being kind or on moral integrity.

I decided to do an experiment and I googled 'advice for women'. Once again, I came up with all sorts of articles on how to avoid "toxic men", on how to further your career, on how to bag a boyfriend, how to catch said boyfriend cheating, how to look 10 lbs. slimmer, even how to keep from being caught when you've cheated.

The advice for women on how to improve their character, on how to be the best person, mother and wife they could be, was notably lacking. Not once did I encounter advice that I would consider of value. Not once did I see a suggestion that women should strive to be anything of real worth.

When I was growing up, in my church for girls ages 12-17, we had a young women's theme that we would repeat each and every Sunday. It's a bit religious in nature but I think it's worth sharing. Here's a section of it,

We are daughters of our Heavenly Father, who loves us,and we love him.
We will "stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places..."
as we striveto live the Young Women Values, which are:
Faith
Divine Nature
Individual Worth
Knowledge
Choice and Accountability
Good Works and
Integrity
We believe as we come to accept and act upon these values,we will be prepared to strengthen home and family......

Not only did we repeat this theme weekly, but there was a whole program based around it. We set daily, monthly and weekly goals to help us further develope those values listed. We integrated those values into every aspect of our lives and were taught that nothing (not even makeup and fashion tips) was as important as developing them. My daughter is now 12 years old and is also setting goals to reflect the young woman's theme.

Where in general society do we see such things promoted? Where do we see young women being taught anything of true worth? Not on T.V, not in movies and definitely not in what has been dubbed the Bible for women. The title 'the Bible for women' implies that everything a women needs to know to be the best and most she can be is found in there. Everything a woman needs to acquire peace, happiness and truth should be found within those pages. Nothing could be further from the truth. Women's magazines don't give women any of the keys to happiness. They don't teach them anything of worth.

If Cosmopolitan magazine encompasses sacred advice for women then one must take a look at what women have deemed sacred. It's an interesting observation. Motherhood is no longer sacred, nor the life of an unborn child. Marriage has lost it's sanctity along with wedding vows. It should come as no surprise as feminism has devalued everything of true worth that everything petty, selfish and shallow has taken their place.

While I roll my eyes and feel disgusted, the fact is that T.V. and the movies have got it right. Cosmopolitan truly is the Bible for today's modern woman. It's promotes everything women today value and nothing that they don't....which is why you don't see any articles on charity, kindness, compassion, modesty, humility or integrity, because these are not traits today's women have been taught to or are interested in embodying.

Good one Kim. I wish there were more outlets for women to be themselves instead of some contrived vision that some women place on others. And then blame everything on men.

Well I can't disagree but if I had said that which I already believe I would be called a misogynist. These traits are not something they are born with for sure.

I can remember a day when females were much more pleasant to be around.

Re: The Bible For Women

Besides what kim observed in women`s magazines, they are also used as a means to disseminate feminist and misandrist propaganda.I was thinking the other day about something I saw on the cover of a woman`s magazine in 1989.I think there was kind of an upsurge in feminist misandry going on in the late 80s.Anyway,the cover said "women are better, smarter, stronger than men".I remember it exactly, because I was struck by how blatantly supremist it was.I dont know if you would see this today or not.

Re: The Bible For Women

In short, all these magazines we see adorning the bookshelves in shops and supermarkets, such as Cosmo and all the others similar, proclaim the feminist dogma which is to train women to tbe the objectionable douyble standard skanks they are today. All you have to do is to look at all the sub headings on the glossy front page: How to steal your best friend's husband or How to have fun when your husband is at work or How to get rid of your boring boyfriend.

As for cheating thing - according to this very same feminist indoctrination of the female mindset - it is perfectly acceptable for women to learn how to cheat without their parner finding out, but heaven help any bloke who is discovered doing exactly the same. Feminists even insist that women have the God given right to still "associate" with their ex-partners, but their new partners have absolutely no right whatsoever to still maintain a similar "association".

Little wonder far too many western women are now turning into the pug ugly, duplicitous, up-front bovines most of us now recognise with increasing sadness and frustration, women indoctinated into the strong belief that what should apply for the gander should in no way apply to the goose. One law for him and another for her.

Re: The Bible For Women

Kim, You are so likeable. I have a couple of friends that are religious but not crazy prophet types.

I wish Christians did not have a 50% chance of divorce. I know that the worldly people think they should be promoting marriage more and family values instead of putting their noses into political issues. But that is just my country. Many a Christian here works as lawyer for children and works for child services and what not. Many a religion group works with youth and tries to get the parents to church. In fact they are worn out thinking that they make no difference because they didn't get God into these young people's lives.

I also know that the religious groups do have books and magazines for women and girls. They are just not sold in worldly shops because the religious groups think the worldly way is the devils way.

I don't want to run down what you do. And I hope that the men in your church are able to make as many men worthy for the women you work with.

The one thing that the churches tell me when I confront them about feminism is that they are saving one person at a time through their speaking of the message of God. And that they work in 3rd world countries to fight poverty.

I am not sure that I am willing to promote what you are saying. I think we have to live by the times in the Western countries.

My grandmother said this to me, "Don't go to work Julie. Because the day you work is the day your husband will expect you to work". Not meaning to put men down but why would they want to be slaves and give women the cumfy position anymore. We are not going back into the kitchen. Men may say that to be powerful but overall they wont allow it.

Men don't want to go back to the traditionally roles. Not overall. And teaching young women that they will be taken care of is like asking them to play a hand with 50% chance of loss.

The men are onto this now. They know that they have a 50% chance of losing and are backing out of commitment. Can't blame them.

But I would not ask women to stay in this 50% win/lose either.

Ignorance is the Oppressor, Vigilance the Liberator.

Indeed Kim cosmo wants money and they dont care how they make it. They have spread more misery and unhappiness than most women seem to realise.
BTW I detest the playboy stuff for men.I am told they (playboy) actually helped fund feminist causes I wonder why? Its mindless and presents a hopelessly distorted view of the world. Sex divorced from personality and reduced to a commodity its awful cosmo goes along with this some way too.

All these media driven things do is try to create desires for more consumerism - mostly things people dont really need. In this way they make the world a more unhappy place..
I may be biased but the finest kindest women I ever met were always sincerely devout and practicing their religion with sincerity.
The root cause then of much of our problems is I think, the denial of the spiritual and the emphassis on the material.

feminism is a disease the Doc is working on a cure. Symptoms include compulsive liar, constant aggression, allergic to logic, often affects women who are fat with short hair and big earings, but can be normal looking.
Reason tablets three taken daily. If the sufferer displays shaming tactics double the dose. Remarkably the illness disappears in disaster zones.

HA! I don't usually look at threads that sound like they're about religion, but I'm glad I opened this one. Cosmo as the bible for women?? If that's the case, and it seems like it really could be, it's no wonder we have so many problems!

Indeed, all the magazines exist to promote products and sell advertising. The articles often are focused on product placement. Playboy's theme has always been conspicuous consumption of overpriced useless consumer goods. It at least had a man's focus until the publication was taken over by a female publisher some decades ago now. Females have no clue how to focus a magazine for men.

Cosmo is just trash and always has been. None of them are very good. And even Scientific American has developed something of a feminist political positoin.

Blessings

Bob

I completely agree with you, Dr. Banner. I think the reason is simply because conservative religion is one of the last remaining bastions where worthwhile ideals are still promoted. The chances of being taught anything of real value from general society is virtually non-existant.

I heard an interesting analogy recently concerning making a shirt. The woman held up a shirt and said that she decided to go home and try to make that shirt without a pattern. She showed her resulting product, while it was undoubtedly a shirt, it varied quite a bit from the original and had quite a few problems and flaws. She then took the flawed shirt and tried to use it as a pattern for another shirt. Once she'd finished the new shirt, she'd use it as a pattern for the next shirt. With each new attempt, the flaws became even more pronounced and noticeable. Several shirts down the line and you could hardly distinguish the garment as a shirt any longer there remained absolutely no resemblance to the original shirt that she'd attempted to emulate without the benefit of a pattern.

Make of that what you will.
