Thumbs up Re: Today, I built this

    This is a new thread,
In which I'd hope that you folks could post a pic or two of what you built.
It doesn't need to be much, could be anything, provided you built it.
I'll stipulate this though, it needs to be something physical, that you can see, I don't want posts like
"Today I built a relationship with........"

I don't need anything elaborate in the details, but if you want to talk us through what we are seeing, that would be pretty cool.

    Thanks,
    Mike T.

    Added after 16 minutes:

    OK,
    I'll start this off.
I'm usually an electrician that works in dairy sheds (aka parlours in different parts of the world).
I am waiting for the local power board (that I used to work for) to get off their arses and connect us with a power supply.
In the mean-time I had a go at fitting some gear into this shed that wasn't electrical.

Here is a picture of what I'm talking about:

What you see is what I did today, there was nothing there before I started in this shed this morning at 7 am.

To the left is the 2 milk filters, milk comes in the top from the plant, goes down the filter through a disposable filter sock and comes out the bottom and then heads into the blue cooler to the right.
There is a circuit of chilled water that takes the milk temperature from the 21C (from the cow) down to about 5C, this is seperated from the milk circuit by a series of 3 gaskets.

And then it heads up and out through a pipe that is on the end of that bend I installed, right on pack-up time.

I do admire folks with such artisan skills.

I built a very sturdy and pleasant pergola some (many) years ago, but as it is at the home that I paid for with Mrs Percy the First firmly rusted in, I have no snap of it.

I understand from my son that it still stands and has provided many fine years of service.

So, just imagine it: eight sided, wooden with 4x4 uprights; a pointy top, open; a half-height fence; a brick floor raising the whole caboodle about 18" off the lawn; flowering and fruiting vines all over it. It can seat maybe 8 people around a table with nice chairs.

It sits about 20 feet from a pond I made too.

Wife : "Those they gave away."
Husband : "I had a dream too...I dreamt they were auctioning off pussy. The pretty ones went for a thousand dollars, and the little tight ones went for two thousand."
Wife : "And how much for the ones like mine?"
Husband : "That's where they held the auction."

And how do you know that it isn't that in disguise?
You have to take my word that this is actually installed in a dairy shed.

Wink Re: Today, I built this

    Saw-horses!!

I've been meaning to make a couple of these things for nearly a year now.
I was going to just buy a couple of saw-horse kits from the local DIY store, but decided
against it when a workmate of mine did and the kits were so poorly cut he couldn't put them together, so they ended up as firewood.

So I bought some radiata pine (white pine) on the way home from work last week and set about chopping it up into bits that would make a pair of saw-horses.
I have to say at this end of the job, I really despise compound bevels (the slots where the legs fit into the horizontal member), especially when the angles need to be 22.5°.

One aspect of the job that I did enjoy was using a chisel, one tool I haven't used since I was an electrical contractor wiring houses and that was about 10 years ago.

Here's how they turned out in the end:

Saw-horses are one of the handiest things a DIYer can own, add an old door and you have an instant work-bench.
I'm intending to renovate this workshop over the winter and as I'll be cutting sheets of plywood, these will come in very handy.

Well, this was a little while ago, but i made something out of leather for the first time.

    leather_and_silver_collar_front_better_quality_by_floatyboaty-d4iqulw.jpg leather_and_silver_collar_back_by_floatyboaty-d4iqryf.jpg

It's a collar. Rabbit fur lined; sterling silver chain and rings; nickle buckle posts and lock; cobalt blue gems; and a craft-store cross.

I dyed the wide part pink myself. The nickle posts attach the black band to the wide part. The top and bottom lip I sewed outside down to the front then flipped it over and glued it to the back. There is no nickle to skin contact as the rabbit fur was glued on last.

It's actually pretty lite. Now I just need a wearer.
