How Katie Holmes outwitted Tom Cruise: the roundup - Yahoo! omg!
The way Katie Holmes carefully plotted her split from Tom Cruise could easily be a Hollywood thriller. The actress “surprised” her husband with a phone call asking for a divorce while he was thousands of miles away in Iceland, shooting his upcoming sci-fi flick "Oblivion," on June 29, then she managed to wrestle away custody of Suri, 6, from him just 11 days later. A report released on Tuesday details just how she went about her secret plan – she used a disposable cell phone.

According to the Los Angeles Times, a friend of Holmes provided her with the throwaway device so she could talk to her New York City-based lawyers without Cruise, 50, or his people knowing what she was up to. Now, yet another report, a People magazine story released on Wednesday, divulges further details on how Holmes caught her husband of five years off guard by meticulously plotting her divorce plans ahead of time, even reaching out to her parents for help.

Another warning sign for any man looking to tie that knot!

She planned to clean him out, ahead of time.

While I dislike Tom Cruise and think he's a Scientology nut, she could of at least told him face to face that she wanted to a divorce, instead of being an immature coward.

When women attempt to try to guilt us for thinking so negatively about marriage it is strategic. It is so that they remain a few steps ahead of us. When men say similar things it is because they are suckers and don't want other men to be any less of a sucker than they are.
When I do this, and I know I will, it will be comparable to the lame learning to walk, the blind being enabled to see and the suffocated breathing again. The sky isn't the limit; there are no limits.

They are not just nuts - they are dangerous nuts. Franky, I'm with Katie on this one. Lesser of two evils.

I agree with wombat she pretty much did what she had too, just look at scientologys motto "always attack never defend" the very second she told tom cruise about the divorce they would have gone into fair game overdrive probably would have taken her child would definately attack her character and have their shark lawyers sharpening their teeth.

Tom Cruise became a Scientologist in 1990. He and Katie got married in 2006. So, Katie had 26 years to figure out what Scientology was all about and what Tom Cruise was like. It's not as though he was keeping his religion a secret. If she didn't know what she was getting into, that's her damn fault. Most celebrities are very public figures. If a woman marries a drunken, womanizing celebrity and then doesn't like his lifestyle, whose fault is that? Again, Katie is the "victim" because she has a vagina and not a penis.

    Then her motives were clear.

Though Katie should have learned that Tom Cruise was a Scientologist, and she seems to have done this, much of what Scientology IS remains a closely guarded secret. Leaks have developed of course, but that has only been in the past five or so years, less than 1/5th of the ammount of time you accord her to learn.

While it's fair to say that Katie Holmes isn't exactly an unwilling victim as the media seems inclined to portray, it's not fair to suggest that she "should have known." By and large, as a non-Scientologist, she effectively had no way to learn.

Since she had no way of knowing about Tom Cruise's scientologist lifestyle and she was unable to learn about Scientology shouldn't that have been a red flag to prevent her from getting involved with Tom Cruise in the first place?

Shouldn't you get to know a person before committing to said person?

It depends on just how important religion is in someone's life. If someone was coming from a non-religious background, they may have been inclined not to worry too much about their potential mate being in a religion started by a science fiction writer.

And who's to say that Tom Cruise didn't try to downplay some of the negative aspects of Scientology? Moreover, those who know about Scientology actually suggest that celebrity Scientologists are deliberately kept in the dark about some of the church's more unsavory aspects.

So not only might she have placed less-import on the religious aspect of their relationship, not only might she have been mislead by her potential mate, but her potential mate HIMSELF would be inclined to look at the Church through rose-coloured glasses, and almost certainly doesn't know the whole story.

Further, the Church's indoctrination suggests that Tom Cruise would actually be inclined to DISMISS any and all criticism of the Church, in fact, I've seen him do exactly this in video.

The Church of Scientology is not a known factor, like the Catholic Church, or Judaism. If she was getting married to a Jew, then what would be expected of her is well-known, with plenty of widely available information, and can be entirely verified by third-party sources. The Church of Scientology however is highly secretive, and those third parties who try to denounce the Church as a dangerous cult face campaigns of harassment and intimidation.

Thus, she was operating at a huge disadvantage, no matter what. Of course, that should be a red flag, but it's still Tom Cruise, and being with him almost certainly would provide a boost to her career.

    A little side note.

Quote from Scientology Beliefs & Practices: What is Scientology?
    WHAT IS SCIENTOLOGY?
Developed by L. Ron Hubbard, Scientology is a religion that offers a precise path leading to a complete and certain understanding of one’s true spiritual nature and one’s relationship toself, family, groups, Mankind, all life forms, the material universe, the spiritual universe and the Supreme Being.
Scientology addresses the spirit—not thebody or mind—and believes that Man is far more than a product of his environment, or his genes.
Scientology comprises a body of knowledge which extends from certain fundamental truths. Prime among these are:
Man is an immortal spiritual being.
His experience extends well beyond a single lifetime.
His capabilities are unlimited, even if not presently realized.
Scientology further holds Man to be basically good, and that his spiritual salvation depends upon himself, his fellows and his attainment of brotherhood with the universe.
Scientology is not a dogmatic religion in which one is asked to accept anything on faithalone. On the contrary, one discovers for oneself that theprinciplesofScientology aretrueby applying its principles and observing or experiencing the results.
The ultimate goal of Scientology is true spiritual enlightenment and freedom for all.
This is very similar to Walter Russel's writings. Check out his book "The Secret of Light" if you wish to compare. Also, "The Message of the Divine Iliad" part one and two.
Our society puts a premium on beauty; common in declining cultures.
Get'm young enough, and the possibilities are endless. -- Unleashed: Danny the Dog

Then that means she married him for benefits and didn't truly love him, in the first place.

She shouldn't have gotten involved with a man who was a scientologist since she knew there was little information made available. If she acted out of self interest from the beginning then it only serves her right to get involved with such a fellow. Those loonies deserve each other.

Perhaps you've hit the nail on the head. I mean, what else is there to be said? Who is Katie Holmes? Tom Cruise's ex-wife. I don't know anything else about her, nor do I care to.
