This was on the Scottish news this morning, police have to crack down on drink-driving, but of course, they've to mainly focus on young men.
I wonder what the reaction would be if they were focusing on young women, and made it public.

A SUMMER crackdown on drink drivers has been launched today with a series of high-visibility police patrols across the west of Scotland. Unmarked cars were also being used at the start of a two-week blitz on drivers who get behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This year's campaign aims to target men aged between 17 and 29 - the group most likely to fail a breath test.
Officers are also urging motorists to avoid driving if they are suffering from a hangover.
A drink-driving conviction lasts for 20 years and stays on a driver's licence for 11 years.
Strathclyde Police launched the clampdown this morning in conjunction with every other Scottish force.
Superintendent Niven Rennie, head of road policing, said: "We have to get the message through that drinking and taking drugs before driving is dangerous.
"Our efforts will continue for the duration of this campaign and beyond.
"People are not only risking their own lives but the lives of other drivers and pedestrians.
"If you are unfit to drive we will find you."
Figures show a higher proportion of drivers aged under 29 were caught out in 2007 than any other age group.
Men aged 30 to 59 who are classed as professionals or own their own business are more likely to drink and drive than other men their age.
Michael McDonnell, director of Road Safety Scotland, said: "It's over 40 years since the breathalyser was introduced and people are still prepared to put themselves and others at risk by drinking and driving.
"Drugs, too, have become a part of modern society and many people claim they do not affect their driving.
"This is nonsense because alcohol and other drugs cross the blood-brain barrier and affect your driving and decision-making.
"Getting caught drink or drug driving will result in a minimum 12-month driving ban and, for most of us, the consequences of that would be disastrous.
"So don't risk it, either when socialising at night or the morning after." Publication date 14/07/08 |
