Boy babies 'worse for depression'

Quote:
Giving birth to a boy can increase the likelihood of severe postnatal depression, a study suggests. French researchers examined 181 mothers, and found 9% had severe depression - three-quarters of these had delivered a male child.
The Journal of Clinical Nursing study suggested earlier poor relationships with men could be a factor for some.
However, a specialist in the UK said the finding, although interesting, could be a "statistical quirk".
Postnatal depression is common among new mothers - the latest study at the University of Nancy found a third of those taking part were affected to some degree.
In some societies, having a female baby has been linked to the condition - due to the cultural preference for a male child.
However, the idea that having a male baby could exacerbate the problem is an unexpected one.
The women involved were questioned on several different areas of their health, including physical fitness, pain and mental and emotional health.
The researchers, led by Professor Claude de Tychey, found that seven out of ten women who had given birth to a boy reported a lower quality of life compared with the average of women who had given birth to a girl, regardless of whether they had postnatal depression.
Although mothers of girl babies were more likely to have mild postnatal depression, among the 17 women diagnosed with severe postnatal depression, 13 had had male babies.
Emotional difference
The researchers did not have any evidence of a reason behind this difference, and called for further research to discover it.
However, although they suggested there might be subtle psychological differences in the attitudes of new mothers towards boy and girl babies which might affect their emotional state - particularly if they were already prone to depression.
They suggested a negative attitude to a son might be a legacy of unsatisfactory relationships with important male figures in their life, such as their father, or partner.
Professor de Tychey said: "The overwhelming finding of the study was the fact that gender appears to play a significant role in reduced quality of life as well as an increased chance of severe postnatal depression.
"Women had the same scores regardless of whether the recent birth was their first or second baby."
However, Dr Cosmo Hallstrom, a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, said the numbers of women with severe depression were too low to draw firm conclusions.
He said severe depression results were compromised by the finding that a majority of the mothers with mild depression were more likely to have given birth to girls.
He said: "It's an interesting talking point, but I'm not entirely convinced by this, and would like to see it replicated in larger trials.
"It's probably a statistical quirk."
Yep, it's all "males" fault, no matter what, we guys are the official blame-tool.

So 14 or so out of 181 constitutes a 'factual' study these days eh?

Pathetic.

Re: Boy babies 'worse for depression'

True to form the feminazi misandrist profemale anti male fembot run Daily Telgraph gave due prominence to this story. This crappy paper (fit only to become Staffordshire carpets) never misses a trick when it comes to anything showing males/men/boys in a negative light. Hardly a day goes by without some crap article about "women being better than men at this, that and the other" or that "men are more likely to be or do.....then comes something negative or dismal. Never ever do you read in this crapsheet something that shows men to be more positive or better than women in whatever the issue is. The worst thing is that sometimes the article is written by a male reporter, but of course, more often than not it is by a Rebecca or a Sandra or some othe female reporter.

Now it looks as if we, as a gender, are blamed for our very existence even before we are born! Why not go the whole hog and have all women pregnant with boykids abort them and then the world will be a much happier place without themisery of maleness. They can join their sisters who make up the very appreciable numbers of murderesses who abort their unborns every year purely to rid themselves of "inconviences" - irrespective of the gender of the foetuses.

Re: Boy babies 'worse for depression'

I forgot to draw attention to the caption under the picture of the woman caressing her baby (presumably it's a girlkid, judging by the loving nature of the picture!):

"Having a boy reduces the quality of life"

Sometimes I really and truly think that there is something to be said in favour of Islam! It remains to see how much further the ever increasing trend to misandry will continue in western societies.

Absolutely. Islam and The West are two diametrically opposed moral/belief systems. One leads to Patriarchal society while the other is leading us further and further into Matriarchy. Islamic and Middle Eastern society get an awful lot of bad press but really a lot of social/moral conservatives should be receptive towards it instead of calling to obliterate it by bombing the countries that practice it.

Another point is that Islam is in a state of maturity. Islamic society - unless it becomes Westernised and feminised - should go through few changes in the coming decades. Meanwhile the dawn of the Feminist, Matriarchal State has only just started in the West. It's up to your imagination (and pessimism) as to where this will end up So while many men conservative and otherwise are willing to put their logic in suspension and call for Iranian and Iraqi blood now, I can see very few being so ardent about in in say 30 years time. Of course by then I expect it to be too late for men to come to their senses.

Indeed, Western (or American, whichever - America and The West are one and the same anyway) meddling in the Middle East has been described widely in the press as a "conservative" or even "Christian" crusade. It is anything but - it's Feminist. It's outcomes will serve the feminist agenda and extend its influence. After in-fighting - which the US Army has artificially drawn out - dies down, after lots of men have been killed, it will be all about transplanting Western/feminist media and laws, using Iraq as a vector for the wider Middle East. Feminist cultural expansionism if you will.

Every time you turn on your television you are leaving yourself exposed to the feminist agenda. Every time you listen to pop music the feminist agenda is being blasted out of the speakers.

Re: Boy babies 'worse for depression'

I realise that America and Western cultures are all much the same - we share the same problems - the most obvious of which is, in my opinion, the result of the rise of Feminism. As I am British and know only British society to any great depth (obviously) then I will refer only to the state of affairs in the UK since the influence of Feminsm took hold of our society at large. Feminism - this movement has done more harm to British society in one way or another than any other factor - I believe it has caused the breakdown of family units and of family life, and because of this we see all the very unpleasant aspects of daily life in the UK today - which we have discussed in this forum at length - this country is now seeing groups of feckless feral youths, tanked up on drugs and cheap alcohol, running amok, causing mayhem and literally kicking to death decent citizens protecting their property. Gangs of lads and lasses, some as young as 10/12, roaming about the streets in the middle of the night, sometimes into the small hours of the morning, causing mayhem and rampant vandalism. While this is going on their "parents" (very often those single mothers) are God knows where doing God knows what, and who, quite frankly, couldn't give a monkeys what their offspring are up to. Most probably they are busy manufacturing the next additions to the feckless ferals. Just think - these "single mothers" have the full support of the Fems. Have you ever heard any feminist denounce single mothers who do not want dads for their boys? I sure as hell never have.

When this whole business of the Archbishop of Canterbury and his sharia law speech hit the headlines, a series of correspondence naturally flooded the press, and a fair number of letters compared social conditions in Islamic countries generally with those here in the UK - where we have all this breakdown in family life, rampant divorce, the very widespread public drunkenness and drugs abuse, the very serious and deteriorating behaviour of the feral youth I was talking about, the continuing decline of stable marriage, the growing disparity between the genders and everything else that goes to make a society in social crisis.

The question asked in these letters of comparison was: which is the healthier?

Re: Boy babies 'worse for depression'

For me, the depression comes from knowing that as a white male, my son's going to have a time of it. Not from the fact that I gave birth to a boy.

Truth is hate to those who hate the truth.

Re: Boy babies 'worse for depression'

The psychiatric 'industry' has caused all sorts of problems. I read the local rag this morning and between 1968 and 1994 the number of mental 'disorders' have increased from 168 to 384 in that time period.

The rag has yet to post it on their site for some reason but the article basically mentioned boys and add, adhd, depression, social anxiety, and even shyness and how so many young kids are taking paxil and other anti depressants and how many of them attempt suicide as that is a side effect of some of the pills.

It also mentioned that so many parents get their doctors to put their children on these medications compared to even 1980. The article said 1980 is when this so called manufactured 'epidemic' of add, adhad etc came popular.

Even for natural issues as shyness and fear of standing up in class, their is a pill for that now and so many younger people, mainly boys go through their school years drugged up.

I think it is pretty sad. I would like to see stats on this as I have a feeling it is more prevelant in single parent house holds, but I could be wrong.

I think this so called 'add' et al is just bunk. In my kids school from what I heard there are more on these pills for these so called 'mental disorders' than are not and even some parents think it is almost 'fashionable' and their kids are on it because so and so said it worked to control their kids.

Yet in my day there was none of this bull. We were in sports and outside daily until dark and not eating fast food and sitting in front of the video games every day after school like so many kids do now a days.

I am not saying some kids don't have issues like depression especially since so many families break up but I think it is over diagnosed as with the add bs. The kid says no in class for something and he has add.

One of the other fathers in our little group (we are all divorced/separated and meet weekly for coffee and discuss our issues, I guess like an unofficial support group for men being shafted) and one said his son is on ritalin because the teacher called his sons mother and they met with the principal and diagnosed him as having add because he was not involved enough in class, his son is smart and finds school boring and seems just like a normal 11 year old kid to me, but oh no the teacher and principal said take him to the doctor and get him ritalin, the father had no say ion the matter, no surprise there and said his son now is like a neutered lifeless non energetic kid. Yet his ex won't let him take his son other than the prescribed every other weekend. It would do the kid a lot of good to see his father more and they both like doing things outdoors but as usual it is always what the mom wants, but that is for another thread.

It really is disgraceful how courts take
