I’ve been privately asked by another AM poster for my views on this situation and the wider cultural implications, where relevant to misandry. I just had a Skype call from him about it because he felt that I might have an informed cultural perspective because of my experience and ethnic background – which is Indian.

So let’s see now, how do I express what I think are the cultural dynamics at play here. Well firstly, I am aware that partly due to western feminism, an image has been portrayed that India is a place where misogyny is a normal part of the value system. This is not the case in my opinion. It is a highly distorted view that often projects the natural pragmatism of poverty as misogyny, by cherry picking poverties attributes to artificially represent them as misogyny.

Often what is projected is the idea that women are reduced to the chattels of their husbands and fathers, living a life of domestic servitude. This is far from reality as by far the great majority of Indian women would consider the life of attaining providence for their family as simply not their headache. And let me tell you, in a country where the per capita GDP is ~$1400, providing for your family is not just a headache most women presume is not their concern, it is a terrifyingly soul destroying challenge that primarily falls on male shoulders.

Women luxuriate, not in material comforts, but in the spiritual luxury of not having the demands of family providence burden their nerves and risk their bodies to gruelling hardships. No, for the vast majority of Indian women, their world is not so much bound to domestic servitude as western feminists would have you believe, it is to be the ruler – yes ruler, of the domestic world they jealously guard and presume privilege over. The home is not their prison, it is their sanctuary from where they issue their men to go forth and do battle in a world that is too harsh and reducing for their privileged sensibilities.

Contrary to the feminist inspired western view, in the thirteen aunties and uncles I have scattered over 5 continents, all domestic situations are characterised by a dominant woman who humiliates and gags their gyno-centric husbands into being compliant accessories to their domestic rule.. They may not represent the poor of India, but the attitude prevails none the less.

The scenes in this strings video about the Delhi metro, may also not represent the poor of India, but the same attitude prevails too. The prominent issue I saw on viewing that video, was not women beating men; it was the public humiliation of men who dared to disregard the privilege of women. I said that privilege was jealously guarded, and that’s what you saw. This presumption of privilege and rule over their domain is a pervasive and powerful state of mind and element of culture which is so very different to the femi-Weston inspired distortion.

And that’s it; it’s not my entire take on it, it can’t be; for I know India is a vastly complex culture that a lifetime is too short to comprehend. Yes there are so many facets of Indian culture that one can engage and criticise this post with. But I won’t respond to them, I don’t post much here and is see little point to respond to what would merely be pedantic deconstruction to what I have distilled and expressed as relevant from what I know.

As you say, there are so many facets of Indian culture that it would be hard for me give a reasoned opinion without spending a lot of time researching the background. However, I will say this...

I admire those brave Indian men who dared to enter the female-only carriages of the train (there are no male carriages I believe) as a form of protest. Given the culture that you describe, that took some guts.

Not just this, but there are so many abuse & crimes against indian men that goes unnoticed.

Yes Andy .. You are right.India is a country with over a billion people with many different languages,culture,tradition,castes,status etc & so on.Unity in Diversity is what India represents.

I too admire those men who was brave enough to enter the women only carriages.

No ... There aren't anything that is exclusively available to men unlike women.Here in India, women have reservations,women only police stations,women only bus, women only train, women only taxi, women only auto rickshaws, women only schools, women only colleges etc .... Men has to share everything with women.But that is not the case with the women.
