WASHINGTON -- New York Democratic Rep. Eric Massa, facing a harassment complaint by a male staffer, said Friday that he is stepping down from his seat with "a profound sense of failure."

"I am guilty," Massa said in an interview with a Corning, N.Y., newspaper columnist.

Later in the day, Massa released a statement saying that after discovering he had a recurrence of cancer, he learned he was the subject of an ethics complaint by a male staffer who felt "uncomfortable" during an exchange with Massa. The exchange reportedly had sexual overtones.

The sexual harassment thingo focuses on 'men on man' harassment. It ignores the mass of woman on man harassment which is far more common and unreported, let alone complained about.

Harassment is defined as behaviour that makes a person 'uncomfortable' and affronts their 'feelings'. The day to day skimpy clothing that women wear even at work - see through blouses and short skirts etc - make may men 'uncomfortable' and arouses 'feelings' that interfere with work. Women's subtle 'hints' and remarks are often aimed deliberately to make men sexually uncomfortable - or aroused - and remarks between themselves are often misandric in the extreme. 'Flirting' is a game women play far more than men do, but when a man makes a 'flirt' attempt, sometimes very clearly and sometimes ineptly, he is likely to be subjected to 'official' humiliation and censure. His employer, an innocent and unwilling third party, often suffers financially too. And for what? Because 'she' 'felt' 'uncomfortable'.

Consider - (and I gave this idea to Warren Farrell long ago, who repeated it in one of his books) - a Man who takes a picture of a Female Co-Worker sexually exposing herself in the workplace (the Basic Instinct - Peekaboo I flash you with studied innocence scam) and posts it on his work station - is Guilty of Harassment - but Not the Woman who does it.

Posting a picture of the normal office behavior of Women can get a Man Fired - but the Behavior depicted is often used as a manipulation tool for advancement by those very same women.

At least the law is consistent - If he does it and she notices, he is gulty; and if she does it and he notices, he is guilty.

Last week, Democrats started to elbow him out of his seat after publicizing charges launched against him by the House Ethics Committee. The charges suggest Massa may have acted inappropriately towards a male aide over a span of eight months.

After that, the narrative goes something like this:

1. Massa said that he would resign, citing health problems.
2. He rescinded that resignation
3. He said he was a fall boy in the health care debate because his planned “no” vote was contrary to his party’s wishes so they were trying to force him out.
4. He said he would resign again.

Tonight, Massa will appear on Glenn Beck’s Fox program, likely with some more bombshells to drop.

Back in 2006, the dalliances of a certain Republican Congressman, Rep. Mark Foley, arguably cost his party its majority status--and its Speaker, Dennis Hastert. One of the loudest voices in that fray was then-Rep. Nancy Pelosi, who used the incident to take plenty of political scalps.

Now that the scandal is on the other foot, and the Democrats' own Eric Massa has resigned under accusations that he sexually harassed male staffers, Speaker Pelosi's office is surprisingly mum. Gone is the righteous indignation she showed in 2006 for "the children, their parents, and the public" over Mark Foley's "abhorrent behavior"--behavior Eric Massa might have taken even further.

Today, new reports are swarming that Speaker Pelosi was warned about Massa's conduct by her own party back in October. She did nothing until Massa promised to vote no on the President's health care plan.

Suddenly, she and other leaders sprang into action a full six months after learning about Massa's relationships. Coincidence? In a letter to the House Ethics Committee in October 2006, Pelosi demanded that since

"Republican Leaders admitted to knowing about [Foley's indiscretions]... for six months to a year and failed to protect the children in their trust... Republican Leaders must be investigated by the Ethics Committee and immediately questioned under oath."

Fast forward four years to this week, when Democrats tried to close the case after Massa stepped down. They hoped to sweep a messy ethics probe under the rug, but this afternoon, the House voted 420-1 to keep the inquiry alive by referring the issue to the Ethics Committee.

Given Speaker Pelosi's 2006 insistence that this behavior "never happen again," Republicans are right: The investigation of Hastert's successor must go on.

Shortly after that, Obama announced the establishment of the White House Council on Women and Girls, an Orwellian gesture in light of the fact that boys are now lagging in nearly every respect: Obama women's council tells its first lie...

Then the June 26 hiring of Lynn Rosenthal as Obama's domestic violence czar. As we know, the domestic violence boogeyman is one of liberals' favorite flogging sticks to stigmatize men as abusers, break up families, and make women dependent on the state.

Obama's nomination of Sonia Sotomayor ("I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life.") to the Supreme Court didn't set too well with the blue-collar lads, either.

But Obama's greatest blunder came when he set out to rig the economic stimulus package.

During the previous year, 8 out of 10 workers forced onto the unemployment rolls were men, inspiring the new term, "he-cession." But when the green velvet curtain was pulled aside, the $878 billion package short-changed the manufacturing and construction industries that employ mostly men, while favoring female-dominated fields like social work and teaching: Obama's betrayal of the working-class male...

And if men still haven't taken the hint, Barack Obama has gone out of his way to berate fathers as callow and irresponsible...

And pining for the day when men would do housework instead of taking home overtime pay, Obama stated in an NBC interview that men "need to be knocked across the head every once in a while."

At a division of the company where I work, a woman sued for sexual harassment, even though a police report, and her own lawyer's written account of events showed that she was the one doing the harassing (e.g. pulling a man's pants down)! The company settled with her, such is the legal environment where "a poor little woman" has a chance to win a harassment suit, no matter how blatantly ridiculous the facts of the case. Obviously, in a system with anything resembling justice, a judge would have thrown the case out of court, ordered the plaintiff to pay the company's legal fees, disbarred the plaintiff's lawyer and held them both in contempt. Instead, both were rewarded for spitting in the face of fairness and common decency.

The company settled with her, such is the legal environment where "a poor little woman" has a chance to win a harassment suit, no matter how blatantly ridiculous the facts of the case

The major factor in all such cases is that a 'third party' who had nothing to do with it, is the one who pays.

It reminds of the "we will sue if we do not get everything our own way". Successful outcomes encourages this type of action. It would appear that female workers only have to "feel" inflicted to ensure a payout..
