Dozens of women seek to join lawsuit against RCMP
'Broken families' and 'broken careers' tied to harassment on job, lawyer says
Atmore;least 25 current and former female RCMP officers are seeking to join a possible class-action lawsuit against the force for alleged mistreatment on the job, a lawyer involved in the budding legal action says.
Lawyer Alexander Zaitzeff, of Thunder Bay, Ont., who is building the case with six other lawyers in Ontario and B.C., said he's heard from Mounties in every province with stories to tell.
"Constant terrible bullying, a hateful work environment, a tough place to actually show up and do your job, all the way to sexual assaults," Zaitzeff said Tuesday. "That's the gamut."

am a woman who has been constantly "harassed" in various workplaces and it was always by FEMALE supervisors including my current one. I have heard so many similar complaints by female colleagues of mine. This is not only a female versus male problem - women against women bullying and intimidation is rampant and I think even worse! I too suffer from PTSD. Human beings inherently like intimidating others when they are in a position of authority. Workplace violence and bullying is almost everywhere in our society. I don't know why the media is only addressing harassment by females towards males only! Come on CBC.....enough male discrimination. This is a problem of both genders.Last edited by outdoors; 7th-January-2012 at 12:36 AM. Reason: content auto merged

Women in those positions are treated as equals and they hate it. The special privileges are missing so it will all have to change..

Re: Sexual harassment claims top issue for new RCMP head
Now, here is where my experiences differ.Human beings inherently like intimidating others when they are in a position of authority.
I have 'worked for' many 'superiors' in my time and most simply tried to do their best. Results were mixed, of course.
A few were awful. They did try to imtimidate, but suffered from the indignity of being ridiculed and laghed-at behind their backs and occasionaly to their face. They lost their Integrity.
A few were exceptional men who I would have followed through the gates of hell. Authentic men with Integrity and Leadership. With sound Judgemenet and abiility to discriminate. They were honest and courageous. They listened and acted on sound advice. They were decisive.
I had positions of Authority with many men and women at my command. I did not find any need to intimidate. I asked, and they did what I asked. Occasionally I ordered, and they carried out the orders, not because of 'me' but because it was the right thing to do, even though demanding and difficult.
And I was right there with them.
"like intimidating others ". I had a Wing Commander (Lt Col) who did not know another way. But he consitently failed because his Officers (me amongst them) simply refused to be intimidated.
It takes two to tango.

Const. Susan Gastaldo, a female Mountie who was subjected to an abuse of authority in a sexual relationship with her boss, avoided a threat of dismissal but was told by a board of RCMP adjudicators she is an incurable liar and not medically fit to serve.
Supt. John Reid said Gastaldo falsely accused her superior of rape, and has lost all credibility, but that her medical condition makes her unable to grasp reality.

RCMP face sexual harassment class-action suit
lots more....A class-action lawsuit for sexual harassment will be filed against the RCMP on Tuesday, according to lawyers representing a former female officer living in British Columbia.
The statement of claim names only one officer from B.C., but CBC News has learned the legal team expects the lawsuit will eventually include women from across Canada.
The constable to be named in the lawsuit alleges she endured years of sexual advances and comments from male supervisors, including finding sex toys that had been put in her desk and being told to keep her legs closed after she announced her first pregnancy.
Her lawyers say they have more than 150 women ready to join the suit with their own stories of harassment and gender-based discrimination in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. But first the legal team, based in Vancouver and Thunder Bay, Ont., say they have to get a judge to certify it as a class action, a process that can take up to two years.

Re: Sexual harassment claims top issue for new RCMP head
I wish I would not have missed this;
Behind the Line - the fifth estate
Seems I am not on my own when it comes to the feminist controlled CBC. Of course this persons ratings are in the dumps for speaking truth;
Canada is the most misandric country in the world. Unlike the Fifth Estate or the CBC I prefer to get all the facts before making any sort of judgement on matters of a sexual nature. The CBC reminds me of Duke University, Nancy Grace, women's groups et al who used false rape allegations to not only destroy five innocent young male lacrosse players' reputations but also to try and railroad them into prison because of an adherence to a deeply imbedded misandric ideology. That is what Canada has become. Nobody has ever accused the Fifth Estate of presenting a balanced point of view. Balance doesn't draw ratings. And when was the last time the Fifth Estate aired a show, any show, that dealt with the lives of men destroyed by false allegations of rape, sexual harassment, domestic violence and child abuse ( especially in custody disputes) etc. It's just not going to happen in a country where women are always the virtuous victim and men the evil villain. In Canada, it has become common place for every allegation of sexual impropriety by a woman against a man to become accepted as factual. Here's a sad reality. Women, like men, lie about sexual matters. But to suggest that in Canada has become verboten. Especially on so called public affairs programs like the Fifth Estate. And just why did it take an internet blogger to reveal the truth about the Duke Lacrosse case when the mainstream media like the CBC, Toronto Star, New York Times, Nancy Grace and others with all their resources had publicly declared these young men guilty of the most vile sexual crimes possible. It's because the mainstream media, especially the CBC in Canada, is infected with the same misandric virus that almost sent five innocent men to jail for life. I don't know if these female RCMP officers were sexually harassed. But I do know I wouldn't make any judgement on the matter based on a television show more concerned with ratings than telling the truth or on a network that has become a bastion of misandric bigotry.
This comment is quite intriguing to me.
About a year ago I wrote to this CBC television show asking them to do an investigation into all the points that the above commenter has brought up.
Never even received a reply.Last edited by outdoors; 29th-March-2012 at 06:15 PM.

RCMP whistleblower says anti-sexism plan inadequate
'Mounties investigating Mounties' not good enough, says Cpl. Catherine Gallifordlots more....The RCMP officer who inspired other current and former women officers to speak out about sexual harassment on the job says the latest plan to deal with sexism concerns in the force is flawed.
Cpl. Catherine Galliford spoke to CBC News late Monday following the release of a report that the RCMP was training 100 investigators in B.C. to deal with the onslaught of harassment complaints made since she spoke publicly in November about her own experience.
Female officers need to feel safe, Galliford says
Galliford said that without an independent view, women on the force will still struggle to speak out.
“My history in the RCMP has so many incidents of sexual harassment and sexual assault that I would be very hesitant in coming forward, just because I now have a distrust of the RCMP, and how it works and how the culture works,” she said.

Expand RCMP sexual harassment hearings, Liberals urge
Invitation to speak would be open to all women in RCMP who believe they've been harassed
The federal Liberals want to give victims of sexual harassment at the RCMP a public venue to air their grievances.
MP Judy Sgro used the appearance of Commissioner Bob Paulson before the House of Commons committee on the status of women to table a motion that would, if passed, allow for further witnesses and hearings into allegations that have rocked the force.
A decision on whether to proceed was put off until Wednesday.Liberal MP Judy Sgro applauded RCMP plans to train 100 officers to investigate internal sexual harassment complaints. (Tom Hanson/Canadian Press)
Sgro said the invitation to speak would be open to all women who believe they've been harassed, not just those taking part in a class-action lawsuit that was filed last month.
Expand RCMP sexual harassment hearings, Liberals urge - Canada - CBC NewsEstablishing 'sense of fairness'
Paulson outlined and defended to the committee on Monday the steps he's taken to change the culture of the force, which he admits has not kept up with the times and public expectations of equality.
"Our policies and practises are being reviewed so we can establish that sense of fairness," he said.
The RCMP is currently conducting a nation-wide gender-base audit, which will examine policies as they relate to how engaged women are throughout the force and how they affect their advancement.
"We're going to put some science behind that," Paulson testified.
One of the central points under examination is how women are disadvantaged when it comes to promotion and transfer.
Exactly how would the Status Of Whymen know anything about fairness?

Female Mountie files lawsuit claiming abuse and harassment at various detachments
Sexual comments, fat jokes and pranks involving toilet paper are the subject of a lawsuit filed Friday in B.C. Supreme Court by a female RCMP officer.
Const. Karen Katz blames harassment and abuse allegedly suffered throughout her career as a Mountie — first at Depot Division in Saskatchewan through postings in Prince George, North Vancouver and lately in E-Division — for health problems including chronic post traumatic stress disorder and bulimia.
She is currently on medical leave from her job in E-Division’s protective services.
