Vancouver women-only pharmacy to be North America's first
Last Updated: Monday, July 6, 2009 | 12:27 PM PT CBC News
What is believed to be North America's first women-only pharmacy is set to open Tuesday in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.
Caryn Duncan, executive director of Vancouver Women's Health Collective, said a lot of women told her they do not go to pharmacies in the troubled neighbourhood because many of them focus on dispensing methadone to heroin addicts.
"Women felt, 'I want a woman pharmacist. I want to know that when I walk in the door, I'm going to be getting sound women-centred care from a pharmacist. I can talk to her about emergency contraception or a vaginal infection, something that is very personal and intimate,'" said Duncan
The welcoming atmosphere of the new full-service pharmacy was designed in conjunction with the University of British Columbia's school of architecture.
Lu's: A Pharmacy for Women, which will be owned and operated by the Vancouver Women's Health Collective, is named after longtime volunteer Lucette Hansen, 85.

this is an objective illustration as to what feminits (wimyn) concede to recognise as "equality" - wimyn are prone to expecting preferential treatment and consideration to the exclusion of men as a legal right - affirmative action

the whole concotion of feminitism is pure cant and straight out preferential shoehorning of feminits to advantage over men

So if a man asks for viagra or smeg infection of the extreme, that isn't somehow deeply personal? And I guess he just has to accept a female staff handing it to him or discussing it... Lovely.

I guess no man can be falsely accused of rape in that pharmacy! I suppose if a fire breaks out or some woman dies on the job, no man can be blamed!

Anyone else wonder what's going to happen for the first "Sexual Harrassment" suit there?

I have to say that I'm very impressed at the high number of men who are speaking out against this idea and feminism on CBC's website...And there were a lot before the link was even posted here. It seems like the tide may be turning against the femocracy (at least in Canada).

Most pharmacies are staffed by women anyway, it's men in my experience that face more embarrassing situations. Women working there seem to draw great satisfaction from seeing men uncomfortably asking for durex, baldness lotions, viagra, etc (Lot's of tittering, stares and frowned looks).

How frigging difficult is it to ask for a female pharmacist, if it's so required, on the few occasions they are faced by a male worker?

The word 'misandry' recognized on a mainstream popular UK tv dictionary/numbers show - Countdown (Oxford Dictionary of English).

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.

I posted this comment, whether it shows or not is another matter.
    Quote:
I notice the people who are all for this idea are very quick to use shaming language against those who oppose such blatant sexism.
    "Immature men"
    "Get a life"
    "Grow up"
    "Sensitive"
    "Whiners"

I can only assume then, going on their logic, that the likes of Rosa Parks is also a whiner, since she too just wanted to be treated as an equal, and not be discriminated against because of how she was born.

Here in Britain a few years back, a taxi firm was set up for women-only, the women who supported such a ridiculous idea also used the same nonsensical argument that women "felt" unsafe with male taxi drivers, women lapped it up, they all spoke of how wonderful an idea it was, but guess what happened to the firm within two years? It died, it's dead, buried, gone, why? Because they not only discriminated against half the population, but also foolishly assumed that most women were foaming-at-the-mouth man-hating feminists who would use their service, but they didn't, women continued getting normal taxis, they did not need such nonsense.
That's what will happen here, yes, women will say it's a good idea, but let's be honest, is a woman really going to go out of her way, and more likely be charged more, simply because of a bit of embarrassment? No, because money talks, and all the non-sexist pharmacies will not charge as much.

I can't believe that women have the ridiculous idea that a pharmacist is the type of person to laugh at their ills, they're professionals, treat them as such.

One simple question for the ladies, of the reasons that are being put forward to justify a women-only pharmacy, would you consider any of them as valid if the genders were reversed? Honestly now.
