Minister denounces EU DV convention as "feminist document"

    The Times Polska, reports today:

Poland's Justice Minister Jaroslaw Gowin yesterday, during a press conference said: "I am highly critical of the contents of the Council of Europe Convention Combatting Against Violence Against Women - it is a document extremely ideological - propagating feminist ideology, which only protects the interest of women"

The document was signed by 19 member states in Turkey in May 2011.

Minister Gowin has been criticised by oppostion parties demanding his dismisal.

In March 2012 Polish PM Tsuk said Poland should sign the convention.

The Justice Minister's main concern seems to be that "rape" will be a criminal charge persuded by the prosecutor, and not upon the motion of the victim, and the victim will have no power to stop proceedings (Richard's note: hey, remember Julian Assange's case?).

Full story (in Polish - use your google translator!) here: Gowin krytycznie o konwencji RE ws. przemocy wobec kobiet. "To skrajnie feministyczny dokument" - PolskaTimes.pl

Is this convetnion law in the UK? What about other EU countries? Was there any public deabte in the UK on this?

HEY ADMINS I KNOW YOU ARE PROUDLY BRITISH, BUT ISN'T IT TIME WE HAD AN "EU" PREFIX FOR EU WIDE ISSUES ON THE COUNTRY LIST!

And there is one man in power that can see through the veil of feminist propaganda.
No doubt he WILL be ridiculed by his feminist-sympathising peers.

The EU was built on a similar platform to the United Nations, this means that womens rights come first in the EU, above anyone else, even before business practice.

Feel free to wade through the waters of serious paper-work to find where it is in the founding statement of the EU, and it clearly mentions the rights of women, it DOES not mention the rights of men (we get the name "a legal entity")

IMO the EU has far too much power to dictate it's blanket policies over such a far flung area.

    You are 100% right Mike.

The Minister is right in his accusations, but he is under attack for coming out and saying what is the truth.

    Richard,
Feminism and communism go hand in hand, the socialist idea that what is good for one is good for all is all they really have.
If we'd had a conservative government in power here, in the 1980's, we would not have had the large amount of social workers that needed to find themselves a "job".
They are all over the Education system here these days, making sure that boys are held back and their future sisters get the best education they can.

In the same scene, they managed to dumb down a whole generation of boys.

That is just NOT right at all.

Communism is only good for feminism if a feminist is in charge; which will likely happen since many women will happily submit themselves to the state as their slave master.

In communist countries feminism was regarded as a form of "deviationism" and punishable as a political crime. The communist gave women equality and that was that. No feminist movements were needed - nor allowed!!!

As a result women in eastern europe are "free" but managed to keep their feminity, while in western europe you had a wholly different experience.

I would say you are wrong to say feminism and socialism go hand it hand. Feminsim is an independent ideology that can fit into many movements - for example in 1990 many feminists sided with Thatcher govt when that government began an anti porn campaign. The left in contrast (eg Sweden!) are quite open about porn issues, and this conflicts with feminism!

Saturday 21 April, radio reports the Minister has reversed his stance and no longer opposes the convention!

    Surprise surprise.

Politician bows before feminist masters, he won't make that mistake again!

In the UK, a small group of unelected elites make the laws. There is no "public debate".

    It's not a dictatorship though, it's "democracy".
