Ginger schoolboy 'begged mother to dye his hair to avoid bullying by female teacher'

    From The Daily Mail:

Ginger schoolboy 'begged mother to dye his hair to avoid bullying by female teacher'

Pupils of a teacher who bullied her class were so intimidated
that one asked his mother to dye his red hair brown so he
would be less noticeable, a misconduct hearing was told today.

Joanna Hyde was suspended for a year today after bullying her
pupils to the extent that some of them began bed-wetting and
one showed signs of psychological abuse.

A panel from the General Teaching Council for Wales heard
evidence that she threw a book at one pupil and called another
'a wimp' and 'a clown' in front of the class.

Miss Hyde was a Year Five teacher at the Welsh medium school Ysgol Y Berllan Deg, in Cardiff, when concerns were raised on behalf of 15 pupils in her class in early 2007.

She also persisted in getting pupils to fill in a behaviour chart in the classroom despite it being against school policy and being told to use a reward system instead, the panel heard.

Miss Hyde did not attend the hearing and was not represented.

She is accused of refusing to comply with reasonable instruction; conduct incompatible with the ethos of the school; and inappropriate behaviour or conduct towards pupils.

The teacher is also accused of bullying or intimidating behaviour towards pupils, and making deliberate false allegations against colleagues.

Mari Phillips, head teacher at the school, said Miss Hyde was in her second year of teaching there when concerns were raised and that she drew her attention to school policies.

She said she was approached by concerned parents and teachers, and decided to monitor Miss Hyde's behaviour closely, making regular offers of support and assistance.

Ms Phillips said one parent told her that her daughter was having nightmares about going to school and that she was afraid of Miss Hyde.

Other parents, she said, told her their children had started bed wetting, had lost confidence and had become withdrawn and upset since starting in Miss Hyde's class.

Ms Phillips said that from observing Miss Hyde's class: 'She clearly had favourite pupils and the rest of the class was not given an opportunity to ask questions.'

One pupil's mother said he was upset at being sent to the reception class for a day and being told by Miss Hyde he would be at primary school until he was 16.

Two teachers reported being concerned after hearing Miss Hyde call a pupil 'a wimp' and 'a clown'.

One pupil was found clinging on to railings outside school because they were afraid of Miss Hyde and wanted to change schools, said Ms Phillips.

She said one teacher described Miss Hyde's class as being run 'like a military operation'.

'I offered her help and that's when more concerns were raised, when the classroom assistants went in,' Ms Phillips said.

She said that in April 2007 the matter was referred to the Welsh Assembly Government's Independent Investigation Services and the subsequent report recommended a disciplinary hearing.

Miss Hyde did not attend the disciplinary hearing on October 12, 2007, but a representative handed in a resignation letter on her behalf.

That hearing concluded that had Miss Hyde not resigned she would have been dismissed.

Rhian Hatcher, a governor at the school, said the disciplinary hearing was told one child showed 'possible indicators of emotional or psychological abuse'.

Council presenting officer Louise Price, who outlined the case against Miss Hyde, said: 'One pupil asked their mother to change their hair colour from red to brown because it would be less noticeable to Joanna Hyde.'

She said another pupil's mother said they started going straight to their bedroom and putting on their pyjamas after school because they 'didn't want to be around noise'.

That pupil, she said, told their parents Miss Hyde shouted at the children throughout the day and they could not understand why she was shouting.

She said another teacher described Year Five pupils as 'withdrawn with the worries of the world on their shoulders'.

What will feminists say about this?

Blame a man? Some guy 'made' her do it? She's ill, perhaps? Who knows, but sure as shit stinks - they'll excuse or justify it.

Either way, though I wouldn't want my kids treated that way - I got called a lot worse than a clown and a wimp by a few female teachers when I was in school and I don't recall needing counselling.

The most offensive thing you can do to a feminist is treat her with FULL equality.
Wife : "I dreamt they were auctioning off dicks. The big ones went for ten dollars and the thick ones went for twenty dollars."
Husband : "How about the ones like mine?"
Wife : "Those they gave away."
Husband : "I had a dream too...I dreamt they were auctioning off pussy. The pretty ones went for a thousand dollars, and the little tight ones went for two thousand."
Wife : "And how much for the ones like mine?"
Husband : "That's where they held the auction."

My point exactly you have to take a little bullying to build charictor and deal with what comes later which is a damn site harder! Like climbing up a tree you fall off you climb it better next time same for bike riding and so on You have to be there as a father so if your child confrunts this situation you can advise on how to deal with it If one of my ( currently exstranged) sons was in trouble for picking on someone I would chastise him if someone picked on him and he hit back (hard enough to put a stop to it) I would condone his action with an explanation of all the ramifications......something they will never learn from x-box or play station!!

Well oddly enough, Karl, it was the feminists that started all of this, with teir "affirmative action" nonsense.

Now you have a situation of "quantity, not quality".

I have to agree with both yourself and Davey, I'm sure we all got called names at school and I doubt it affected me at all in later life.

    But,
Having read that piece above, I have to ask the question, is a person that is constantly yelling at a class of children, that well suited as a teacher?
I would have thought that there would be some sort of a pre-entry test, to gauge how a candidate would handle a situation like that.

Some people just aren't suited to some professions and the teaching profession is certainly none the poorer for being without her.

Yes, yes, we all get called names, BUT THAT AIN"T THE TEACHERS friggin' JOB.

It is clear child abuse from the effects, so when will she be charged?

So, if I am understanding this correctly, there were school staff members who already knew this woman was trouble, and were supposed to be monitoring her closely...but somehow she was allowed to intimidate her class by continuously shouting ( and no adults happened to hear her?) She caused children to have psychological problems and this went on for how long until something was finally done about it? Seems to me there are more people to hold responsible here than just the teacher. The school knew of the problems, but did not act (from the beginning) in the best interests of the students, and from what it sounds like, those were very young kids...vulnerable.

Maybe Miss Hyde steps into the classroom and becomes Miss Jekyll?

AKUUS, I am astonished. It is the other way around. Dr Jekyll (Pronounced Jeekle, by the way) was the nice fellow and Hyde the psychopath.

This story almost made me cry. I don't see how any human being can be so mean to children. Why did it take so long for the school authorities to do something about it? I am so glad my kids don't attend school.

Mari Phillips, head teacher at the school
A female headteacher has probably not helped the situation.

this reminds me of the elder george podcast from this thread:

New edition of Mancast: "The Tyrant Mother" by Elder George

'The tyrant mother', basically when theres no male authrority figure around, some women are just unable to control the power they hold, particularly with defenceless children.

my mother was the same when I was a kid. she still acts that way with their dog, she treats it like a child and demands it obey her. its her tone of voice that is absolutely frightening, and she knows what shes doing, but she seems to take pleasure from it.

"""Joanna Hyde was suspended for a year today ""

then the abuse of the tender minds will continue

    I have had the misfortune to be under the thrall of such a wimyn;

there is no character building benefits of being under the control of such a character - it is all about intimidation and control of tender and uncritical minds with the authority of the institution

such folk are wont to demoralise and intimidate those beneath them
