Feminsm moving into our High Schools
Well there you have it. The standards of our education system for High School students. An exam question asking students to provide a "feminist perspective" on geographical features has upset some, but academics say it is a valuable way of broadening students' thinking.
The New Zealand Qualifications Authority said the question was in keeping with the standard for geography examination. Perspectives could include knowledge, practices and beliefs "such as Maori, indigenous, gender, scientific, environmental and post-colonial", said NZQA deputy chief executive Bali Haque.
Five photographs of scenes ranging from a park to a city's central business district were shown and 17 year old male and female students were asked to explain how each image could be be viewed from a feminist perspective.
Feminist geographer Dr Julie Cupples, of Canterbury University, said feminist geography had been around since the late 1970s.
What the hell is feminist geography? This comes under sociology being the make up of groups in society.
This is absurd.
I am on the parents side for sure. Genders has nothing to do with Geography. What's next?Dr Wendy Lawson, head of the geography department at Canterbury University, said the exam question, while sophisticated, was "perfectly legitimate".
She suspected parents who regarded the question as politically correct were "taking a certain definition of feminism, and feminist, that is a colloquial understanding of that term - rather than an academic or intellectual understanding of that term".

Re: Feminsm moving into our High Schools
The rise of feminism has always been of interest to geographers and a vital feature of the human side of geography..
I recall back in the 70's when I gained my grade "A" in the subject that one of the reasons for the rapid advancement of India as a nation was the effective use of feminist tools..
The "preethi" program (Johnnies) and the "Radios for bollocks" campaigns where fundamental in reducing overpopulation and doing as the West had done previously..
Gaining an advantage economically by increasing the workforce by reducing the resources expended in raising kids..
By "raising the status" of women (I.E. telling them it was better to work as a train driver than be a mum).. The indians managed to get out of the worst 3rd world problems..

Re: Feminsm moving into our High Schools
Keep feminism out of our schools!!! The only things in school which should be taught, are things which are going to be needed to gain employment after kids leave. Fucking feminism is poison, brainwashing poison, and has nothing to do with skills needed for work.
