A WEALTHY Sydney businesswoman who met a younger Albanian lover on a holiday in the Greek islands attempted to prevent him living in Australia after they broke up, a court heard yesterday.

Mother of two Kerrie Patterson had a ''whirlwind romance'' with Mark Martinaj on Santorini in 2009 and asked him to come and live with her in Cammeray.

''This is a story of the princess and the pauper,'' Mr Martinaj's barrister, Costas Kilias, told the Downing Centre Local Court.

''She is successful, well known and wealthy … he is effectively a penniless foreigner.''

After two years living together, during which time Mr Martinaj applied for a de facto visa, the relationship hit trouble and Ms Patterson suggested to Mr Martinaj that he visit his family in Albania, and they would reassess the relationship on his return.

But while Mr Martinaj was overseas, Ms Patterson contacted the Department of Immigration and Citizenship and asked for his visa to be cancelled.

She also cancelled his return airfare and contacted federal and state police ''to ask that he not be let back in'', Mr Kilias said.
