Attention ladies, need your help!
Playtex 18 hour bra has a new TV advertisement which is pissing me off royally.
Here is (I hope) a link to the video from the Playtex website:
http://www.playtexfits.com/campaign....als.18hour.asp
This one woman says, "Finding a really good man is like finding a really good bra" (as most women know, finding the perfect bra is hard, hence the ad's comparison).
COMPLAIN!! Let's contact the Playtex company and let them know that WOMEN do not like the sexism in their ads!
I'm going to write to their snail mail address because for the life of me I could not find a contact email on any of their websites. If anyone else has the time to research further, please post it here."I just owe almost everything to my father and it's passionately interesting for me that the things that I learned in a small town, in a very modest home, are just the things that I believe have won the election." ----former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher

Wife : "I dreamt they were auctioning off dicks. The big ones went for ten dollars and the thick ones went for twenty dollars."
Husband : "How about the ones like mine?"
Wife : "Those they gave away."
Husband : "I had a dream too...I dreamt they were auctioning off pussy. The pretty ones went for a thousand dollars, and the little tight ones went for two thousand."
Wife : "And how much for the ones like mine?"
Husband : "That's where they held the auction."

Re: Attention ladies, need your help!
Saying "Finding a good bra is like finding a good man" is not sexist?
What if an ad for a men's product (say, jockey shorts) said, "Finding a good pair of shorts is like finding a good woman"?
Oh you can IMAGINE the hullabaloo from the fems if an ad like that were to run!
And as a woman, I resent their assumption that I would agree with a comment like that, or find it appealing enough to make me buy their crappy bras!"I just owe almost everything to my father and it's passionately interesting for me that the things that I learned in a small town, in a very modest home, are just the things that I believe have won the election." ----former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher

Re: Attention ladies, need your help!
After spending more time on their site, I finally found a page where you can contact them for complaints:
http://www.hanesbrands.com/hbi/en-us...Us/Default.htm
Here is what I sent to them:
To Whom It May Concern:
I have seen the Playtex 18 hour bra commercial on TV a few times in the morning, while exercising.
As a woman who happens to love men, I took great offense at the comment made by one of the actresses in your commercial.
She said, "Finding a good man is like finding a good bra".
Excuse me? I have never had any trouble finding a good man, you just have to be a good woman to find one!
I will not buy any of your products as long as you air such a commercial. And as a woman I resent your assumption that I would feel like that about men, enough to buy your products.
Sincerely,
Annette *******"I just owe almost everything to my father and it's passionately interesting for me that the things that I learned in a small town, in a very modest home, are just the things that I believe have won the election." ----former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher

Re: Attention ladies, need your help!
Suggested replacement lines for the ad.
"Girls, you want lift? A good man will lift your spirits everyday.
Want support? That same good man has been giving support for more generations than you can shake a fanny at.
Want separation? We have a HUGE anti-family court system and more lawyers after your good man's cash than we have underwires.
Good men are easy to find if only you open your eyes.
But if you want a good bra, try ours. Better than any others, and second only to a good man."

Re: Attention ladies, need your help!
Any derogotary commentary made against males should be fought regardless of how minor some people think it is.
Annette is 100% correct when she states that efforts should be taken and emails should be sent to voice your disgust..
Just do it...
If they receive a couple of hundred emails (as this normally infers that a couple of thousand think it as well, puts your effort into perspective)they will start thinking a bit more about the next add they produce..
Every efforts helps...

Re: Attention ladies, need your help!
My husband says that most men are more likely to see humor in the ad, but one thing that has always annoyed me is:
Why is it that discrimination against women is called "sexism", but discrimination against men is called "humor"?"I just owe almost everything to my father and it's passionately interesting for me that the things that I learned in a small town, in a very modest home, are just the things that I believe have won the election." ----former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher

Re: Attention ladies, need your help!

Is this really what we want?
No sexist tv..
No humour..
Anything that anyone does not like, not to be aired..
I dont think I would like to live in such a world..
I have seen the results of the "if two folk complain, your banned" philosophy of life...
It just ends up with nothing being said..

Re: Attention ladies, need your help!
It's not about humour in this case though, drex. This advert is apparently telling women (as they're the consumers of bra's) that good men are practically unheard of. That, is in short, perpetuating further misandry by pretend good men are in short supply - when in reality, they're everywhere. Some with common sense may just roll their eyes at this advert knowing it's baseless & lacking a tie to reality, but all too many women will sheepishly sit transfixed to the screen, in synchronised nodding motion.

Re: Attention ladies, need your help!
The thing is, I dont agree. Its about selling bras to women, its a female audience, they have their own female sense of humour.. I dont find silly adverts offensive, I find them harmless, what I find offensive is the suggestion that women are entitled to asset strip men that they divorce and control access to the kids..
This sort of playground level tit for tat is a destraction and is precisely what the feminists would like to see us wasting our time on..
We complain about such a petty thing, then who are we to complain about it when they complain about similar petty things?
"He started it, ", "No, she did"..
"Oh no I didnt"..
"Oh yes you did"...
The pantomime continues..
And as we continue demonstrating how happy we are to be fighting tit for tat petty battles like toddlers fighting over a teddy bear til they have pulled its head off..
Some bloke somewhere is jumping off a bridge because his wife has decided to move the milkman into the family home..
Because she can..
Because we would rather write letters to a firm that is simply doing its business than write letters, or otherwise, to the folk that really matter..

Re: Attention ladies, need your help!
IMHO, these adverts - although trivial in some forms - are simply smaller clogs of the same machine. We need to deconstruct this machine whichever way works at any given time. If we work down up, or up down - the affect is the same.

Re: Attention ladies, need your help!
What you say makes good sense Marx. On the one hand, these items may seem trivial, especially in light of the bigger issues, but as you say, these are simply "smaller clogs of the same machine". That is to say, if we can dehumanize and degrade men, (on a daily basis), it makes it easier to snatch their children and dissolve their marriages. The issues are not in fact seperated at all.
An ongoing bias in the media, against men, has to exist, in order to strip us of our rights. It's not about being distracted by the small stuff, it's about responding to all the crap as it hits.
ie. men are irresponsible losers ergo, they shouldn't see their kids.
ie. men are all a bunch of idiots ergo, you should divorce them and rape their assets.
From my point of view, this kind of thing is all about conditioning us for the big stuff that comes later. As Drex says though, don't let it distract you from the bigger issues, but, at the same time, ignoring it would be a mistake.

Re: Attention ladies, need your help!
I dont see anything that particularly offends me though, commenting about stuff is fair enough, but complaining formally is a petty thing that walks striaght into the hands of the PC brigade..
