Fifty Shades of Grey
Fifty Shades of Grey: E L James: 9781612130286: Amazon.com: Books
Lots more.........romanticizes the libidinous delights of female sexual submission in an otherwise standard bodice-ripper about a young Seattle college student who falls in lust with a fabulously handsome and wealthy business mogul with extravagant BDSM appetites. It’s the first volume in a trilogy by first-time novelist E.L. James, a 40-something former British TV producer.
Initially distributed by Australia-based publisher the Writer’s Coffee Shop Publishing House, the Fifty series, which deals openly with sexual behaviour considered taboo outside porn and the now defunct Spice line of Harlequin romances, seems to have hit a target audience of unrepressed adult females willing to sing its praises.
They flaunt their reading choices by buying grey ties — the male hero’s neckwear fetish in James’ book — for their partners; New York’s men’s clothing stores can barely keep up with the recent surge in demand, according to several news reports.

Re: Fifty Shades of Grey
I don't think they want to be abused. But, dominated? Definitely. One of the premises around BDSM is that one takes all of the control and decisions which relieves the other of responsibility and accountability. Somewhere in every woman is a part that wants to be controlled that finds it sexy when a man tells them what to do. A woman should be feminine and a man should be masculine.
Oh, and I just went and bought the book.

Fifty Shades of Grey critics slam bondage stereotypes
BDSM advocates say E.L. James's books perpetuate myths about BDSM community
Booksellers recently reported that E.L. James’ erotic trilogy Fifty Shades of Grey accounted for up to 20 per cent of all the print novels sold in the U.S. this spring.
While the series has obviously titillated readers, sex experts and members of the alternative sexual community say the books draw a problematic and unfounded link between sadomasochism and mental illness.
“As a researcher in this area of sexuality, it doesn’t sit well with me,” says Caroline Pukall, director of the Sex Therapy Service in the Department of Psychology at Queen's University in Kingston, Ont.

Re: Fifty Shades of Grey
Yeah, the BDSM community HATES 50 Shades of Grey because the characters break many generally accepted rules in BDSM circles.
Plus, it started as Twilight fanfiction. Seriously. She first published it on I think fanfiction.net, and took it down when it got popular, so a lot of the plot is lifted from the Twilight series.
Probably not every woman. The vast majority however? Definitely.A father is too valuable to waste.

I borrowed part a comment from a member of syg.com and posted it,the CBC actually let it through.
Could use some thumbs up.
outdoors copied;
.Considering all the PC/feminist culture has done to neuter and beta-ize men today – it’s not surprising that a book describing a strong male, submissive female engaging in Dom/sub behavior has become such a hit. It seems to have filled a “need” niche that women have missed out on thanks to feminists.
Ladies – enjoy the book – but if you try later to shame-language me about my erotic desires, expect a scathing lecture on double standards and for me to humiliate you, in public, when you try to berate me

Re: Fifty Shades of Grey
Ha, my girlfriend just bought the book, so it will be interested to see what she says about it.
In the meantime, the various posts on this topic beg a few questions. First WHAT is masculine and feminine? We can biologically state that quite obviously, but when it comes to behaviour its more difficult? A woman in a strictly Islamic country who wears a full burka to cover her body and face is being submissive, as it the woman in 50 shades of gray, but this leds to the queston that domination or submission is a SOCIALLY CONDITIONED or social created categories.
Further dominaton and submission have little to do with sexuality or gender - it is a feature of our daily social lives - every day we submit to being taxed, to the law...etc etc. Domination is a power exchange - it happens when we encounter the state, or it is a principle that can be even when we submit to a woman, or submit to the rules on this forum. Or am I confusing the categories of power with that of authority? But what is authority if not a reflection of power?
Thus a man or a woman could take up the role of domination or submission. Is there an automatic link that a woman is submissive? Prove that link? And judging by the West, women there are taking control. So is it "against" nature? Or is it simply what we have been used to.
I am not supporting feminists - but I am pointing out that it seems we are a bit lazy in our thinking and assumptions.
I have yet to see a study that shows women are biologically submissive and men dominant. It would a bit like saying jews are "naturally" drawn towards money, or coloured people are drawn towards drugs "naturally". If we see a coloured drug addict we say "oh poor man he is a victim of circumstance", while a submissive woman is not seen as a victim of circumstance.
OK, I am provoking a bit, but perhaps it sheds light that male=dominant traits and female=submissive traits is a bit simplified and leads us into a simple view of the world which the feminists used against us - and thus win the intellectually arguement. If feminine = submissive then Islamic women would be the most submissive women of all.

I haven't read 50 shades, but the mock-up 50 sheds of grey is pretty funny.

Re: Fifty Shades of Grey
The 'liberated' woman absolutely loves the submission game. Thay can talk about it at coffee mornings while their husbands are work.
I think that the groundbreaking site takeninhand.com is still in existence - yes it is. It's a good virtual game for women.
The idea is very appealing to (western) women, but only so long as it's just a game. If the sh*t hits the fan, all they have to do is pick up the phone and say, "my husband is abusing me". Then it's "game over".
When men seek dominance they are taught from birth that 'responsibilty' comes with that.
The reverse equation doesn't apply.
When women seek support and protection, for themselves and their offspring, "submission" (to the father/breadwinner) comes with what????
Actually, it doesn't. Because the entire legal and political system is honour-bound to come to their aid - with taxpayer's money. Yeah, Right?
Men are accountable for their actions and women are not. That's a theme that runs through almost every damned article on this site - for year after year.
You name the topic and I'll find the quotes. We know it already. Our forefathers knew it. Why is it suddenly news?
A lot of men are now waking up to the fact that their forefather's pretended dominance was never real. It was a fraud and their ancestors were duped.
Most "modern" women don't really want to shoulder all the responsibilites that men used to have. And take care of the kids too?? That's too much!
For all this social dysfunction, we have to thank feminism.
As the feminists say, the genii will not go back in the bottle. I hope so. It's time for a fresh appraisal.
