    definition of feminism

What is 'misandry' and what is 'anti-misandry'?
Misandry is the hatred of males as a sex, as opposed to misogyny, the hatred of women; or misanthropy, hatred of the human species. Misandry comes from misos (Greek μῖσος, "hatred" + andr-ia (Greek anér-andros, "man". Those holding misandric beliefs can be of either sex. Thus it holds to common sense that Anti Misandry is to work toward removing misandry from our culture.

Can you give me some demonstrations of misandry?
Sure. Have a look at the second-wave feminist view of men for an example. Valerie Solanas, the radical feminist who shot Andy Warhol in 1968, provides a famous example of misandry in her self-published SCUM Manifesto. In case you're wondering, SCUM is an acronym for 'Society for Cutting Up Men', practically a call for gendercide, the culling of men. Quite literally, Solanas expressed her desire to "institute complete automation and destroy the male sex."

Wow, this is pretty bad stuff - what can I do about misandry? For one thing, you can stop accepting it as a ...

With much fanfare and aclaim, Stony Brook University has anounced plans to create a 'Center for the Study of Men and Masculinities.' Heralded by some as a long-overdue balance for males in the face of decades of "Women's Studies" course in universities, Stony Brook is starting with a $300,000 grant for two years. Just what the money is for is unclear but it's probably to do with the extensive panel of people who will be dipping in to the budget and setting the whole thing up. More on them in a moment.

One might have thought that anti-feminists would be delighted at the news of a course on masculinities. After all, here is a chance for academia to set the record straight, to teach how great men have been throughout the ages and how wonderful they are today. It should be a forum to learn how, despite being the minority voter in a democratic country, men are still blamed for anything politicians do wrong. It could even explain matters of male oppression such as not having free universal suffrage for men even though women have had free universal suffrage since 1971. Feminist lies could be examined and the negative impact they have had on men, children and women could be understood in a social context, with proven data.

    If only.

Professor Kimmel, who leads the new center, admits that masculinities will be taught from a feminst viewpoint. That is to say, not from one of equality such as egalitarianism, nor from one of ...

Not every man who comes through the Men’s Shelter’s “east door” (guest services) is in the same place. Part of the grace-based philosophy that permeates UGM is dealing with each person as an individual. During an initial evaluation process, staff members help the men who come to us identify their short-term needs and long-term plans. Some simply need a few nights lodging in a safe, sober environment. Many more need help getting back on their feet, and the Mission has a variety of ways to do that.

    EMERGENCY SHELTER

Emergency Shelter Guests typically stay for less than three months while they receive assistance during a time of crisis. If they have specific physical or mental challenges, our staff works to connect them with the appropriate resources.

    THE GOOD WORKER PROGRAM

The Good Worker Program is for men who have expressed a desire to live in the Mission community for longer than 60 to 90 days to get their lives back on track. These men are willing to contribute to the running of the Mission in various ...
