I am so, so, so, so embarrased that I cannot even believe it.

I'm not saying too much of anything yet, but one of the main conspiracy theorists' platforms was that the CIA is a criminal organization that commits a lot of dastardly crimes.

And of course I said that this was nonsense, this was conspiracy babble. But then what do you know, the government admitted it. They admitted that the CIA had committed those crimes. And those crimes were very serious crimes too.

Folks, I almost fell off my chair I was so shocked. I thought that this whole thing was manufactured by conspiracy theorists who wanted to spread babble and everything, but how can I deny it when here's the government admitting it on their own website!?

It's a known fact that the CIA overthrew the government of Guatemala several decades ago simply through subterfuge and deception -- not a shot was fired. The president abdicated because he thought a vast rebel army was hiding in the jungles, in preparation for a supposed attack.

The dictatorship that replaced him brutally killed many innocent people, and political opponents. That dictatorship was a U.S. ally during the Cold War. Guatemala's dictatorship (with the help of the CIA) may have squelched a burgeoning left-wing labor movement and that prevented the Soviets from gaining an ally in our hemisphere. But at what cost...

It's natural for good people to believe that others have a good conscience and hold similar values and hopes for our country while we are taught that we are the greatest country on earth, and it's just as natural for lying, crooked types to never trust anyone.

Oliver North case was a strange twist. He tried hard to be honest and not implicate the president but in the end it came out. He did what he was told to do which was illegal.

He sold guns to hostile nations for our government. The Iran contra affair. They used the money to support drug runners in South America. They protected these drug trafficers. Read about it below.

Somebody has to the government's dirty work. There are always shadowy operatives doing what needs to be done out of the spotlight. Expressing shock is naive, this is realpolitik, and U.S. citizens benefit from it.

The notion that Americans are morally superior is a myth. Being #1 means sometimes doing unsavoury things, it goes with the job.

In what significant ways do we Americans benefit? The industrialists benefit in peacetime and war (wars which the CIA starts) from the arms build up. Politicians (some of them) and their cronies benefit politically and financially from the companies they work for or have stock in.

We average Americans, besides the major blowback of "acts of terror", have to deal with animosity when we go abroad and even sometimes here at home from foreigners, have to pay heavy taxes to support the CIA/war machine, and have to deal with the unmanageably massive influx of both unassimilabe refugees and immigrants from wartorn countries and unassimilabe, anti-American illegal aliens from countries often negatively affected by CIA interference? Non-interventionism, which we practiced up until the Spanish American War, is the ideal approach for everyone.

If you are confused when you look at these figures... you are not alone. Even more confusing is that in 1980, during the reign of President Jimmy Carter (a Nobel Peace Prize winner), there were 2,392 US military fatalities!

Most of the people who work for the CIA are genuine Americans, however, there is a rogue element that simply stop at nothing.

I have heard it said numerous times that the name "Al-Qaida" actually means "Toilet" maybe someone here could confirm or deny this.

My understanding is that "Al Queda" translates as "The Foundation," and is an Arabic translation of the title of Isaac Asimov's "Foundation" trilogy.

Apparently Al Queda was in some way inspired by the Sci-Fi concept of a long range social Foundation for a new world order, a great new civilization rising out of the destruction of the previous galactic empire.

What does the word "Al-Qaeda" mean ? In Arabic, "Al-Qaeda" has a different meanings, among them “Base", "Ground", "Norm", "Rule", "Fundament", "Grammar".

The exact meaning is dependent on the context in which it is used. It depends on the word which follows “Al-Qaeda” in the sentence. "Qawa'ad Askaria" is an Army Base, "Qawa'ad Lugha" stands for Grammar Rules (the Bases of Grammar).

"Qa'ada" is the infinitive of the verb "to sit". "Ma-Qa'ad" is a chair. "Al-Qaeda" is the base or fundament of something. "Ana raicha Al Qaeda" is colloquial for "I'm going to the toilet".

A very common and widespread use of the word “Al-Qaeda” in different Arab countries in the public language is for the toilet bowl.

This name comes from the Arabic verb “Qa'ada” which mean “to sit”, pertinently, on the “Toilet Bowl”. In most Arabs homes there are two kinds of toilets: “Al-Qaeda” also called the "Hamam Franji" or foreign toilet, and "Hamam Arabi" or “Arab toilet” which is a hole in the ground. Lest we forget it, the potty used by small children is called "Ma Qa'adia" or "Little Qaeda".

Those who founded the glorious "International of Islamic Terror, Al-Qaeda, probably knew too little about common use of Arabic language to know that by using this name for their organization, they risked becoming the laughing stock of everybody who speaks the Arabic "public" language.
