    Thumbs up Workplace Horror Stories

I work part-time at a Save-on-Foods as a Service Clerk, which is a job that requires me to do several different tasks around the store including mopping, restacking baskets, returning unwated/ditched items; taking carts up to the front of the store, bagging groceries, helping customers, sweeping, returning bottles, etc...

    - I've seen parents fail to watch their kids, a toddler almost went out the exit door by himself and another young kid almost opened the emergency exit (and it said so on the door)

    - Some idiot woman allowed her grandson to stand in a wheeled basket (they're used to hold baskets and for employee use) while she paid for groceries. I didn't say anything to her because I figured that at her age, she should fucking know better.

    - Customers sticking Chunky products in the ice cream freezer

    - A customer with PeTA stickers on their car.

    - The person who was supposed to train me and a few others didn't show up, so we got trained by some employee and as far as I can remember, he only trained us on how to return perishable food items and to stack baskets.

    - Management trained us service clerks to bag groceries- get this, about 5 months after we started working there. All of us had started bagging groceries way before "bagging training"

    - Management seems to be unaware of the definition of "safety". There's wheeled baskets that obviously safety hazards; yet the store has never bothered to put much into either fixing them or replacing them, despite employees and myself sending the baskets to the back with notes saying that they've got something wrong with them.

    - Almost ran over my foot while trying to pull some shopping carts back as to avoid a collision with vehicles in the parking lot

    - Some dumbass mother whining that she had to walk all the way to a shopping cart stall because the first nearest one didn't work. Then she threw in that she had her "young" kids locked in the van. I put "young" in quotations because her two kids were about 7 and 8 years old, old enough be locked in a van for less than 5 minutes. I had seen her earlier in the parking lot with her kids, and her van was not at all parked very far from where she said she had to walk.

    Re: Workplace Horror Stories

I was doing some charity work earlier this evening and the ladies in question had this little puppy..

Well, they left me in the room with this puppy, and it was hard work trying to aim it into the bottle with a little fluffy hound trying to lick my salami helmet at the same time!

Eventually, I shot into the pot, put the pot to one side while I put my kex back on, and guess what?

Yes, the little puppy had decided to lap the tadpole soup out of the jar!!

Luckily, the dog only quaffed about half of it, but when I opened the door, the dog ran out to the women, face full of jizz!

It was rather embarrasing trying to explain why I their puppy had love-mayonaisse round its mouth, but I quickly handed over what was left of the baby gravy in the pot, picked up the fee and rapidly left the premises wondering if they thought I was some sort of a wierdo!!

Yes, Dr. Ruth or Sigmund Freud would have a hay-day with you.

"Civilization can only revive when there shall come into being in a number of individuals a new tone of mind, independent of the prevalent one among the crowds, and in opposition to it- a tone of mind which will gradually win influence over the collective one, and in the end determine its character. Only an ethical movement can rescue us from barbarism, and the ethical comes into existence only in individuals."

    Re: Workplace Horror Stories

The chain I worked for was in dire straits and I was the only service tech on duty.
At my workplace, they cut so many front end workers (that's where the service clerks work) that there's maybe about 5 of us left. 98% of the time during my shifts, I'm the only service clerk!

Out of all the bad things about work, I've managed to find great coworkers in the cashiers, other service clerks, and the Russian security guard who is probably the friendliest guy you could ever meet!

Well Pokeymaster, such horror in your workplace is iluminating. It makes my experiences of firefights in the jungles of Borneo with Indonesians trying to kill me, seem like childsplay.

And it puts into perspective the tailplane falling off the Javelin causing it to tumble in flames down the runway killing both Pilot and Nav. Not to mention the chap who drowned under his parachute when he did a training drop onto a beach in Cyprus not 500 yards from me, and missed. Then there was the U2 pilot who misjudged his circling decent and landed on top of my friggin' control tower !

    Re: Workplace Horror Stories

One thing that really pissed me off about my workplace is when the girls at Customer Service chit chat with their friends during the busy hours and get away with it, and I chit chat with an employee for 2 minutes during the "dead" hours and get bitched out for it!

The girls at CS talked far more than I ever did on the job!

I witnessed an outcome like this !

a father had lost track of his very young son and he was in a state of absolute panic running here and there and shouting the boys name

luckily the security found the boy by back tracking the security video and he had wondered into some clothing store where the patrons assumed that the boy belonged to one of the others

    Thank god nobody snatched him!

Why of course they notice these things when some guys do it. They don't won't to hurt the little womens feelers.
I'm a woman as well. There's hardly any male employees working at Customer Service unless they're cashiers or from management

Out of all the rude customers I've encountered, 98% are women and 0% are men. Yet somehow the "asshole customer" on our training video was portrayed as a man. Fuuuuuck...

I have gotten compliments from female customers, but I've gotten the best ones from the guys!

    Re: Workplace Horror Stories

I once had to replace a box of popsicles that some old man (he was shopping with his family) had bought because the box was damaged. Right after I replaced the 1st box of popsicles, I had to replace the second box because it was opened. I think the old man opened the second box because when I got that replacement product, I swear that the box was closed!!
