Women's prisons 'should all close within a decade'

Instead of being imprisoned, the vast majority of the 4,300 behind bars would be ordered to attend new community centres during the day.
They would be given help to kick any addictions they have, and to stop committing crimes such as shoplifting, before returning home at night.
All the women's jails would shut within the next decade, and could instead be converted into prisons for men.
John Reid is facing chronic overcrowding in men' prison's, forcing him to take the drastic step of begging the courts to jail only the worst offenders.
Closing the women's jails would help the Home Secretary to hit his target of finding 10,000 extra prisons places over the next five years, which is expected to cost £1.5billion.
But allowing thousands of women criminals to walk free would also be politically awkward for Mr Reid, who is desperate not to appear "soft" on crime.
Lady Corston, formerly chairman of the Parliamentary Labour Party, sought to justify the shake-up by claiming custody is "disproportionately harsher" on women.
Many female criminals are victims of abuse such as domestic violence, she said. Sending them to jail means they lose their home and children.
The report claims: "Women and men are different. Equal treatment of men and women does not result in equal outcomes."
Lady Corston said that as a starting point only women given two years or more should be kept behind bars ? with community punishments "the norm" for non-violent offenders.
Women also never be sent to jail to "teach them a lesson".
Lady Corston said small custody units were already operating in the US and Canada.
Other proposals include an end to the routine strip-searching of women in prison, and better jail sanitation.
The report, commissioned following the deaths of six women at Styal Prison, Cheshire, called for action on its findings within the next six months.
It was seized on by penal campaigners, who have long insisted too many women are jailed.
But Home Office officials privately questioned whether the political will exists to adopt some of its most controversial ideas, or whether cash is available to build the new community centres and custody units.
Home Office Minister Baroness Scotland said: "I very much welcome this report and have given an undertaking that the Government will look carefully at the issues it raises and the recommendations it makes.
"Vulnerable women who are not a danger to society should not be going to prison."

Why not go the whole way and make it unnecessary for women to appear before any kind of judicial court in the first place. Simply declare them as perpetual victims, totally incapable of any wrong-doing of any kind on the basis of it all being the fault of a patriarchal society.

Set up two entirely separate judicial systems irrespective of the crimes being dealt with: -
1. For males only - on a "guilty until proven innocent" basis. If found guilty then prison is guaranteed.

2. For females - no courts of law required on acount of their "victim of society basis" - innocent irrespective of proven guilt the fault of which lies elsewhere. Prison is not an option as all female prisons are now male prisons, and if not that then either low cost supermarkets or bingo halls.

I believe this is the scenario the odious Harriet Harman is dreaming up in her wildest of dreams.......

A statement which truly holds true, and, in a nutshell, explains why men outperforming women isn't down to discrimination. Of course, with her agenda-fuelled selective reasoning, she'll only subscribe to such logic when it suits her to do so; when men and women have differing outcomes in terms of average salaries, it's not equal treatment, but discrimination of course.

But let's not forget that she obviously ONLY wishes for equality, of course. Close all women's prisons? Convert the same prisons to men's prisons? She probably advocates the idea of stripping such prisons of most of their facilities, before turning them into men's prisons; all in the name of equality, of course...........!

It's already happened. Women already routinely escape jail for serious offences, for no better reason than that they are in possession of the holy vagina. Only 4,300 women in prison? Who here believes that there are only 4,300 dangerous women in the UK?

Look at how hard it is for a woman to get into jail in the first place. They can kill their babies, and not go to jail. Heaven forbid, they are victims in need of help. They can tell wicked lies that ruin men's lives, and put the innocent behind bars, and not go to jail. Just a caution not to be so naughty in future. Even if they do it again and again. They can punch and kick other people and not go to jail. In fact any woman has to be a seriously rotten apple to run any risk of doing time. These female jailbirds are far from unfortunate fallen angels. And there are far more rotten apples out than in.

Do women ever go to jail for shoplifting, as Baroness Head-up-her-arse implies? I don't think so. And have we not just been hearing that women committed over 80,000 violent crimes in the UK in the last recorded year?

Yes, indeed we have. And that's VIOLENT CRIME, not nicking a packet of fags from the local shop. So how come only 4,300 of these VIOLENT CRIMINALS are in jail? Sounds like even violent crime doesn't get you jail time, provided of course that you have the holy vagina to protect you.
