Women and Boats
A woman can do anything a man can, and better.
They can be Captains of boats.
Big ones.
But small ones too.

It was the weather !

Re: Women and Boats
The weather? Waves?
The only waves I saw were people waving, "Away... Away..." lol►My blog / Your Blog
►Generic Rules
►FaceBook App
Wife : "I dreamt they were auctioning off dicks. The big ones went for ten dollars and the thick ones went for twenty dollars."
Husband : "How about the ones like mine?"
Wife : "Those they gave away."
Husband : "I had a dream too...I dreamt they were auctioning off pussy. The pretty ones went for a thousand dollars, and the little tight ones went for two thousand."
Wife : "And how much for the ones like mine?"
Husband : "That's where they held the auction."

Re: Women and Boats
" A collision at sea can ruin your entire day" Thucidides ( as recounted by Captain 'Wild Bill' Hayler - Instructor in Navigation and Rules of the Road at the California Maritime Academy) RIP Bill
BTW - to be fair some of the most spectacular collisions have been engineered by Men (see Andrea Doria / Stockholm) - often using the best technology available, as opposed to say looking out the windows to see what was going on.
One of the most notorious Admiralty law cases on point was the 'clever' lawyer who said that Risk of Collision has been ascertained Not to Exist (as required by the International Rules of the Road) - Just Before The Collision.
He lost the case (the judge said that the fact of collision showed the risk did exist) - but got Paid Anyway, which just shows it is better to be a sea lawyer than a sailor.

Re: Women and Boats
Dealing with the weather is all part of the craft, but in a boat under power the weather should have little influence unless you're talking about a real deluge.

Re: Women and Boats
Is there something about the steering wheel on a boat that that means it has to be wound from it's far left travel to it's far right travel to make the boat turn even slightly?
Because that is what I see that woman doing.
I thought steering a boat would be not unlike steering a car.

Re: Women and Boats
far less responsive, and steering becomes less responsive still at lower speeds unlike a car where the slower you go the more precicely you can steer, and in a tighter radius.I thought steering a boat would be not unlike steering a car.

Re: Women and Boats
Apart from being somewhat lacking in confidence, she did quite well, overcompansating on the steering, but that will come with experiance, but the "bonk method" well that comes within the powerboating level two,and is an acceptable method of turning a boat on a dock or other places nothing wrong with that, the scandinavian's tie sailing boat's up on rock's that no anglo will do,scared to scratch anything maybe?

Re: Women and Boats
Does hitting other boats come in level two as well?
Is shouting 'get out of the way' just before you ram into the side of someone a feature of level two powerboat terminology?
How about turning into the side of a boat that is passing otherwise clear?
Motoring past the boat-stop?
Blaming the weather on a sunny day on a canal ! ?

Re: Women and Boats
How different is this to the way the majority of women that have passed a driving test,do you really except the same competance as from a male?
Sure a man would not have passed his level two,but there is equality for you, well women's version of it.
The shouting " get out of the way",a shout as a warning to attract attention is allowed, the flicking of the bird is frowned on though.

Re: Women and Boats
Shouting " get out of the way",' is not alright at all. At least not unless things are quite different where you live. That's a demand for the other vessel to yield right of way which in this instance is totally incorrect. 'Get out of the way,' is not a warning, it's a demand, and the assumption on the part of the other skipper will NOT be that there is a problem, or that the vessel is in difficulty. Of course you should always try to avoid a collision even if you do have right of way (save in some few select examples) but forcing a vessel to yield to you in order to prevent a collision when you don't is completely wrong.

Re: Women and Boats
The boat that she shouted at stopped in front of her,the guy stopped right in front of her,as she was turning in behind him,he was not keeping a look out at all,she had it under control and stopped her boat, and i am sure that things are not that different where we live, though the other boat was not "maintaining course and speed," and " get out of the way" come's under any other unmistakably distinct sound signal to attract attention,i am sure it may not be,oh so polite, but i could not find a rule against it in Dutch rule's,though i will concede this position,if you can point that being against the rule's.

Re: Women and Boats
I haven't watched the entire video, so I'll grant you may well be correct if the other skipper wasn't keeping an eye out. If he wasn't underway that could make a difference, but that does seem like the kind of place where there could be signage so not knowing what it says, I can't comment.
Even if it is only from a common sense perspective however 'get out of the way,' would be less productive than a genuine call of warning.

Re: Women and Boats
Let's not get too serious chaps.
I posted it as a bit of a laugh.
No doubt there are some fine, capable boatettes.
We had a 16 y/o Oz girl sail single-handedly around the world. Second go. On the first, she ran into a friggin' tanker. But heck, she got back on her boat, disregarded the jeers and did what I could not do.
