The
article (I'll just highlight the important parts) starts like this:
Quote:
SEVERAL hundred men are expected to converge on the Emancipation Park in Kingston tomorrow for the staging of a men's rally, being held to develop the image of Jamaican males and encourage them to restore their roles as fathers.
Wow, sounds promising. Then it proceeds like this:
Quote:
"We want to say if you are a man you are to be a responsible man and one of the responsibilities is to take care of your family," he said.
Now why do I instantly get the feeling this "encouragement of fathers to restore their roles as fathers" will yet again be all about responsibilities and obligations they have towards Womenandchildren™? Ah, of course, here it is - the article ends like this:
Quote:
During the rally, Rattray said, men will be asked to declare how they could make the country a safe place for women and children.
So, Mr Rattry, I'm sorry, I'm kinda lost, why is it again, that your rally is named "
Men's rally for Emancipation"?
Anyway, this is Jamaica. I'm not posting this because I'd be directly affected by this. I just think this is a nice example of something being sold as helping men, when it's yet again really all about helping everybody else but men.
