Who has it worse? Men or women?
As all can see, I have time on my hands and I'm loving it.
My question is sparked from a conversation last night - other people's morning.
I personally don't think you can generalise who has it worse, that it's an individual thing while I consider it's fair to say men see things bias to men while women see things bias to women.
Here's 2 scenarios.
Woman was locked in a room for four days and beaten beyond recognition (when the brother in law insisted he knew the husband had her hidden and the ambulance came, her children screamed because she was unrecognizable). He tortured her for 4 days because she left him for another woman - something that destroyed his ego. He tied her up and consistently bashed her while shoving things into her vagina saying, "Is this what you like". The room had her blood everywhere and she was lucky to be alive.
Man is kidnapped and tortured by 2 lesbians. They force a milking machine onto his penis which kills him.
Who has it worse?
...........
Here's another 2 scenarios
Woman stops man from seeing his children and he has to pay child support.
Man refuses to pay child support and thinks it's a woman's job to raise the children.
Who has it worse?
...........
Another 2 scenarios.
Girl looks for her father and when she finds him knocks on his door. He has her tied up and gang raped as he is a gangster.
Boy has sex with a girl and then she reports him as a rapist because he doesn't want a relationship. He is stalked and bullied, kick out of school and on the sex offenders list.
Who has it worse?
............
Man goes to hospital and isn't treated well by the female nurses. He assumes the nurses don't treat women the same way and sees this a gender discrimination.
Woman goes to hospital and isn't treated well by the male nurses. Her husband ends up in a fight with the male nurses.
Who has it worse?
............
Another 2 scenarios
Woman looses her children to the state because she allowed her children to see her man violently abuse her.
Man looses his children to the state because his ex said he was violent.
Who has it worse?
...........
Now I might be looking at this all wrong and need challenge. Who do you think has it worse and why?Ignorance is the Oppressor, Vigilance the Liberator.

Er, I think I know the answer to that one........Woman stops man from seeing his children and he has to pay child support.
Man refuses to pay child support and thinks it's a woman's job to raise the children.

Added after 34 minutes:
Of course we all have our own scenarios - possibly many of them.
One recent one of mine has been with police and it's been challenging. I've just learned a letter of apology is in the mail and they're doing a small workshop to remind police to treat people in a professional manner.
I've had 2 friends who've complained about police - both male. One was because he was beaten up by police and the other cause they raped his daughter who used an alarm clock of a tourist in a tourist half way home. She thought it belonged to the home. Both won their cases.Last edited by julie; 7th-September-2011 at 12:54 AM. Reason: content auto merged

Re: Who has it worse? Men or women?
I've said this before - We don't typically view our same gender as very vile because we don't experience our same gender on the same intimate level. I haven't experienced what a man has experienced but I can be empathetic. Understanding is the solution - when you understand, you can take the RIGHT action.

Re: Who has it worse? Men or women?
At Julie. See here, the thing is that women today just can't fathom how entitled they are. Men are just victims. We seek victim status.
If you honestly can come forth and say that women are in dire need of help, in the same stride you say men need no help. You are biased.
I think women need a huge wake up. Lest they like cats. Dry indeed will be your genitalia. Time for some truth, and you are not giving it.Never pass up the opportunity to shut up. A smart man knows what to say.
A wise man knows if he should say it or not
I should heed this good advice sometimes

Re: Who has it worse? Men or women?
"Who has it worse?"
To determine that is easier than you think. Just remove the gender from it all and then admit that it is ALL bad and ALL needs addressing, regardless of gender.
Problems arise when people assume that things should be different because of the gender. Despite all the progress men have tried making by changing laws to make society more egalitarian, still feminist diatribe continues to make gender an issue when it should never be.
Instead of fomenting more gender division, remove the gender - remove the bias that sexist thinking imposes - and get quality feedback from a quality question.
Someone was locked in a room for four days and beaten beyond recognition.
Someone is kidnapped and tortured by 2 people. They use a machine on the victim's genitals which kills them.
Who has it worse?
...........
Here's another 2 scenarios
A custodial parent stops the other parent from seeing their children but the non-custodial parent still has to pay child support.
A non-custodial parent refuses to pay child support and thinks it's the job of the custodial parent to raise the children.
Who has it worse?
...........
Another 2 scenarios.
A child looks for its lost parent and knocks on their door. The child is tied up and gang raped; the parent is a gangster.
Two children have sex and then one of them reports it as rape because they don't want a relationship. The accused is stalked and bullied, kick out of school and on the sex offenders list.
Who has it worse?
............
Someone goes to hospital and assumes their poor treatment is a gender issue and sees this a gender discrimination.
Someone goes to hospital and isn't treated well. Their spouse ends up in a fight with the nurses.
Who has it worse?
............
Another 2 scenarios
A parent looses their children to the state because they allowed their children to see their partner violently abuse them.
A parent looses their children to the state because their ex said they were violent.
Who has it worse?
Does it matter who has it worse? All of these are tragic injustices that should be addressed.Last edited by Douglas; 7th-September-2011 at 07:49 AM. Reason: I had left a 'his' in the scenarios

Re: Who has it worse? Men or women?
The scenarios you present are anecdotal and only represent the small number of people included. To look at the situation for men and women, rather than for one man and one woman, you need a broad study of expectations, group dynamics and statistically demonstrated outcomes. Not all outcomes can be tracked back to clear causes but by first recognising the outcomes you can then look into what is socially needful.

Re: Who has it worse? Men or women?
In order to see whether one gender is how shall i say more important than another, you would have to look at the outcomes [as rightfully stated in the previous post]. Does the punishment of the perpetrators reflect the gender divide? Is justice equal? Is care and attention equally divided amongst the genders? I would hazard a guess here, that we would see the whether one gender is favoured over another if all said facts are in.

Re: Who has it worse? Men or women?
Anecdotal or any other ideographic date are admiisible evidences that 'show to' the issue.
There are terrible things going on between people all the time, but we must not be overcome by a lack of appreciation of numbers. The 'worse' situations are a very small proportion of all interactions, most of which are fine.
Only on very broad matters is gender an issue.

One group has several forms of support open to them, often paid for by government departments set up for their gender alone.
The other group have very few, if any, options to them when they need support. There are no government departments set up for their gender and certainly no funding for services for them.►My blog / Your Blog

Wife : "And how much for the ones like mine?"
Husband : "That's where they held the auction."

Re: Who has it worse? Men or women?
Naturally, you will see the scenarios in your own gender. Women will see "Rape" in the first scenario, but as a man the first thing I noticed was that the man was killed by the Lesbians. So is death preferable to rape? Is the fact that a man died pertinent when you look at the context of the scenario? The woman may have been raped and beaten, but she lived according to the scenario. Who has it worse? Well, they both do.
Douglas removed the genders for the scenarios in a previous post and it simply muted implied bias.
One of my friends recently had his name and address printed in a local newspaper in a "Name & Shame" article outing deadbeat parents. He isn't a father, nor do I think he will be anytime in the near future. He is Gay. He was given an immense amount of crap at work over the false publication of his name, He had a cop show up and threaten him with jail if he didn't pay up. He is now suing the paper, the police, the DCS for libel and a host of other stuff.
So who has it worse? The female DCS employee who falsely reported his name to the paper, or the Gay Guy who's career and freedom are threatened over a "clerical error"?Last edited by The Possible Human; 7th-September-2011 at 05:04 AM.

Re: Who has it worse? Men or women?
It depends on perspective. In the West, I think a case can be made that men and women have their own challenges. the realquestion to me is what causes these issues; is it statist feminism, patriarchy, or even just plain intersection of oppression? Perhaps it's a mix of all three or maybe not. I think the prison system is racist here in the states, I could even make a case that white people are privileged compared to ethnic minorities. But it's not so simple when it comes to gender based oppression, one could look and find blatant examples of male and female privilege even though that's subjective. Throw in cissexism and heterosexism and the issue gets even stickier. The very idea of treating this is a simple black and white issue is offensive on so many levels.
