My son was circumcised by a Jewish mohel when he was 8 days old. I was right there when it was done. He had no problems, and he fell asleep right after it was over.

I don't know what happens in non-religious circumcisions, but I have heard similar horror stories as you posted!

Yet the BBC reported that medical studies have found from the World Health Organization (I think it was) that circumcision greatly reduces HIV in Africa...because the AIDS virus likes to hang out and party under the foreskin, in the smegma, it seems.

So there are both pros and cons to this issue.

My opinion is, don't get them circumsized as a baby. Let them get old enough to be able to understand what it is, and give them the choice.

Most guys know how to clean their equipment. So, perhaps, instead of mutilating every baby boy in Africa - they could simply teach them how to clean properly.

The truth is that you stood by and allowed your child to be subjected to torture. That he fell asleep could have been a self-defensive response to overwhelming exhaustion, trauma and betrayal. Was he even anesthetized? I can forgive ignorance, because it used to be that women didn't know any better. They were told that it didn't hurt the babies and they were told not to trust their motherly instincts. They might have believed the various excuses people give for continuing this practice. But when a woman knows better, and she still chooses to do this to her child, it is disgusting and evil. There is no acceptable reason for it. It is sexual abuse to touch a child's genitals (except for hygiene or medical reasons) so what makes it okay to mutilate the genitals? Annette if you have a heart, you *ought* to be ashamed of yourself for defending this vile practice.

Religion is no excuse for such cruel practices to be forced upon tiny babies. This is not an issue of religious freedom, it is an issue of protecting our tiniest citizens from immoral and antisocial barbaric acts being forced upon them while they have no choice of their own. Negative. First of all, infants are not in the habit of engaging themselves in behaviors that put them at risk for HIV. Second, the conclusion that circumcision offers significant protection from HIV infection is wrong. Condoms are still far more effective.

Would you still defend their right to do that? Do you believe it is acceptable to stone adulterers to death? Cutting off fingers is a completely different ritual. Unheard of and it's not a good comparison. In fact I do believe in the death penalty when done properly.

Walking through the fire is a satanic ritual and the Israelites even turned to burning their children for Baal in Gehenna valley outside Israel. This was one of the most disgusting things ever done in Gods eyes. They were run out of their land and paid for it dearly. No I couldn't defend that wrong. As a believer in the God of Israel I have to defend his position and I believe that his knowlege is greater than ours concerning things of this nature. The fact that blood clotting isn't 100% til the eight suggest God knew what he was talking about.

Life comes with many aches and pains.. And I believe boys get tougher with every pain we get while young. My youngest could barely walk and took a nose dive into the coffe table splitting his upper lip and under the nose.. Blood covered his face and shirt as Mum freaked and rushed him to the hospital.. Want to know what was on his mind? He wanted to go through the automatic carwash.. No tears, no crying and blood had covered his upper body.. Maybe had he not been circumcised he may have squalled like a little girl the entire time and my wife couldn't believe how calm he was, she was a mess...


I was bothered by the video somewhat like watching cataract surgery, but as a circumcised male I have no problems with it. The pain doesn't last that long and well I can't even remember it.
God is not gonna force someone to do real harm to their children.
I happen to believe he knows better than we do and that is part of the trust you place in him if you really believe..
