    What's Your Vacationing Style

This is an interesting and easy test from Psychology Today Magazine. The importance of vacations in maintaing or improving health is often overlooked.

"The average American now takes just 10 days off per year, and they're often doled out as three- or four-day weekends. Some 20 percent of workers don't take the vacation time allotted to them. Take our quiz to find out your vacation patterns."

Today I have off in honor of Fourth of July (even though it's actually the third. Gotta work on the fourth.) What did I do for my "mini" vacation? I slept in ..wwayyyyyyy in...got up around noon and haven't done a damn thing. Still in my pj's and it's now 2 in the afternoon!

If I'm feeling really ambitious I might actually go out tonight. Unfortunately I can't stay out that late because I have to go to work early in the AM.

I can't go on vacations. There's no one at work to take my place and so if I were to take a vacation, I'd be coming back to the stress of a bunch of work piled up waiting for me and trying to catch up which could take several days to accomplish. No thanks.

Recently I got really ill and missed two days of work. First time in a year. And when I came back to work I had eleven assessments to do. I worked sick, because I couldn't afford to take more days off than two. The stress of coming back, still sick, and having that much work piled up (with deadlines...state deadlines, for having it done, of course), was hellish.

The two days I spent at home in bed too sick to work..all I did was worry about the work I knew was piling up on my desk while I was gone.

Vacations suck- being sick sucks...if you can't actually emotionally or psychologically rest or escape there's no freaking point to taking time off at all.

I get away alone once a month, but some might not call it a vacation, because I go to the same place. We have a little cabin in the hills, way out in the sticks. I make my own electricity and have a nice four-season creek. No, it's not a shed, and no, I'm not a hunter. Nothing to do but sleep, eat and feel the breeze. Up there, it's quiet, nobody around for acres on all sides, and the loudest noise is a male eagle singing to attract females. Ever see two eagles mate? Truly an airshow!

My wife and I take vacations every other month. We have our favorite spots. We don't take the kids every time, we need to recharge our own batteries together, too. Sometimes I break away on my own and fly someplace. My wife knows I need time alone.

Husbands, don't ever give up your time out alone, whether you just take a day ride or fly around the globe. She is your helper, not your partner. Retain your role or her feminine curiosity will begin to wonder.

Sorry fcb...happy your relationship works for you but I could never be with a man who had that sort of view. I'd rather be single...no hassles no bs...no "helper status"!
No need to apologize, dear. Insults from feminists are par for the course. Everyone needs reasons to laugh. Feminism is one of mine.

Happy 4th all, we're off to watch the midnight show. It's still 70F outside so I took the old Bronco top off, just for the two of us. Don't come knocking early tomorrow...

    Re: What's Your Vacationing Style

We try to get away every weekend we can. In the winter, it's snowboarding. In the summer we either go to the lake for camping, boating and wakeboarding or to the mountains for camping, motorcycles and ATV's. We also make a trip to Yellowstone National Park once a year to see the animals.

We do most our vacationing as a family, but every other month or so my husband and I try to get away just the two of us. We spent a couple of wonderful weekends at the lake last summer, no kids....just relaxing on the sand and playing in the water. It was great.

"Every noble impulse, every unselfish expression of love; every brave suffering for the right; every surrender of self to something higher than self; every loyalty to an ideal; every unselfish devotion to principle; every helpfulness to humanity; every act of self-control; every fine courage of the soul, undefeated by pretense or policy, but by being, doing, and living of good for the very good’s sake—that is spirituality." -David O. McKay

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12

    My total score was 39:

    Rational Tourist
A conscientious and early planner, you won't just vacation at any cost. You usually have a great trip, but if your plans go awry, you may become perturbed.

So, if my plans go awry, I may not become perturbed ... assuming I'm sedated by one or more psychoactive substances, of course!
