It's possible that America isn't a bread lovers paradise.
I've known a couple of Brits who said curry chicken was all the rage in England and when I asked why it had become so popular I was told that the Brits has the most mundane cooking traditions of any culture. I don't know.. I Never thought about it.

We have fine Danish pastries, grab some bratwurst from time to time, cook up some Oliebollen now and then, similar to New Orleans Beignets. You can find foods from all over the world here.. But what does the English culture offer us for lunch?

From a Culinary website on English cuisine.
"English cooking’s bad reputation in the not too distant past, of being uninspiring and tasteless."

You can find good breads here but I could see it as not such a big deal when we have rich cooking traditions.

We gave the world Pizza, fried chicken and Cajun traditions(Southern), Meatloaf, Burgers, Hot dogs, Buffalo wings, Apple pie, Clam chowder, pastrami, Po'Boys and Subs but a pig is a pig is a pig.. I grew up eating farmers cuts which is sliced with little fat. You don't find that in the market these days, they sell you fat with a little meat on it. I won't eat it. Turkey bacon is healthier.

And, let's not forget about whiskey. On the other hand, I think most of this stuff was invented by foreign expatriates. As for the bread, there is a large bakery in virtually every grocery store around me. The one I go to usually has very nice loaves of asiago that I get along with a pound or two of mesquite smoked roast beef and baby swiss at the deli as well as some fresh tomatoes to fix probably one of my all-time favorite foods on Earth a nice fresh deli sandwich. I could probably live off that for the rest of my years -- that and sushi which they also have almost always fresh, but pretty expensive.

I nearly fell out of my chair hearing of Brits complaining about American food. They must have gone to the midwest or something....

I have never been to the UK but I can say that every grocery store here has a bakery. I generally only buy donuts and cake from the bakery though.

I am finding it a little hard to believe that good bread is hard to find here.

Hm...the stereotype here is that most of the guys from the UK or the USA eat white bread only. Generally speaking, is that true? (My mother was to the USA once and when she came back she said what she missed the most was the bread)
The men's and fathers' movement needs to make sure it never sees females as the enemy,
but only misandry--whether from females or from males.
If not, we'll become like the bigoted feminists that this movement was formed to oppose.

I do eat white bread mostly, sometime wheat but only when I have to.

What's the bread like in the UK that makes it so different? Is there no pre-packaged bread in the UK (Wonder Bread, Bunny Bread, Sara Lee bread, etc...)

Whole Wheat bread is pretty big here. Much healthier.
My wife is a bread lover. I'm not such a fan but I like Texas Toast often, quick and tasty, more southern tradition.

I hear up north the food is much simpler like in England. Lots of subs and pizza. I know some Yanks who came down and we forced fed them grits and cornbread.
another southern dish or two, my wife is crazy about cornbread.

Don't pick on the states cooking if if you didn't come down south. The south is also famous for it's music. Home of Jazz, Ragtime, Blues, Bluegrass, Country, Elvis & Buddy Holly.
What a coincidence my mother is a bread lover also!
An yes we do have a lot pizza restaurants and sub joints in NC.
We also have legitimate jack assess who look and act like lawyers!
You know who I'm referring to?

Ugh....white bread....in a bakery here we have like 30 different kinds of bread, most of which is not white. Ah the good German bread (I have seen English / American - expats describing it as best bread in the world)

I'm eating high fiber, whole grain bread. It is pretty tasty and there are more types of it. I don't care about bread that much though.

I love jams.. I've never tried huckleberry. I suppose it's not as common here.
They only grow in the northwestern U.S. and Canada and then only on mountain slopes where there's a lot of snow runoff. They aren't commercially grown because it's too hard to imitate their growing conditions and they have to be hand picked. If you're ever in the intermountain west, be sure to try some.....they're awesome!
"Every noble impulse, every unselfish expression of love; every brave suffering for the right; every surrender of self to something higher than self; every loyalty to an ideal; every unselfish devotion to principle; every helpfulness to humanity; every act of self-control; every fine courage of the soul, undefeated by pretense or policy, but by being, doing, and living of good for the very good’s sake—that is spirituality." -David O. McKay

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12

Most of the guys from the UK eat only white bread? No it is not true by any means.....in my experience most guys in the UK (and of course I include females as well, seeing as they are often included in this term as well!) - eat either ordinary brown bread or wholemeal or granary bread and all the different variations of bread other than just plain white bread. I never eat white bread really, especially the pre-packaged sliced stuff from the supermarkets which sell the whole range of different kinds of breads anyway for the most part.

My initial comments are the result of all the posts I read in the British Expats in the USA website in whch they often moand and whinge (as most Brits do very well indeeed over just about anything really!) but it really does seem to be a common theme among them all really about the inability to find what they call "decent real" bread in the USA similar to what they were used to in the UK and in the rest of Europe.

As for the bacon in America - all they can seem to get over there is a rather anaemic kind of streaky bacon not good for man nor beast, according to them....nothing like the range of bacons you can get in any supermarket or butcher's shop here in the UK.

A good traditional English breakfast with all the trimmings including proper bacon is something to behold and enjoyed, and that is something all those British expats truly miss more than just about anything else over there. They do prefer the weather over there though, most of the time, except for hurricanes, blizzards, ice storms, floods, droughts, sky high humidity in 35C temperatures and creepy crawlies.....

Whatever.....as I say, whingeing is a British trait where ever we go.....

This is by way of a change from man bashing male gender trashing anti misandry....I'm so pissed off with it I thought I'd go off on a tangent over bread and bacon and creepy crawlies...

Yes, to the first; no, to the second. I'm no misogynist, but seriously, the fact remains that, in terms of survival and creature comforts in life (I'll remove sexuality from the equation, for now....), a world of men would thrive FAR more, than would a world of women. Unlike women as regards men, I have no problem admitting that women may excel over men in certain, beneficial areas; although some may disagree, and this may not be the case, it's possible that women may be naturally a tad more nurturing, and hence a tad more suited to parenting roles (note, I said "it's possible", and this doesn't justify the lack of father's rights that exist).

However, fact remains, I'd say that men could FAR more easily switch comfortably to women's traditional roles, than vice versa. Men could cope fairly easily, with raising kids, and often do. But how would women cope, taking on physically-demanding, dirty occupations?

Recently, my fiancee and I moved into an unfurnished apartment, and drove a van up to my Grandma (who recently passed away)'s old house, to move some furniture out, for our new place. It was left to my dad (61-years-old, but still more-than-capable of helping move heavy furniture) and I to take on the task of moving the furniture from the house, and into the van. There were two large sofas, armchairs, a bulky TV, fridge, washing machine, table and chairs, you name it; as well as some very narrow doorways and staircases to negotiate.

My point? That I'd have liked to see two women attempt to do what we did.

Men are most certainly NOT defunct, thank you very much, feminism.
You never got back to me on this.

It does seem as if men get stuck with all the shitty work too such as driving on vacations, checking strange noises, killing the bugs, manual labor, fixing the roof, shoveling the snow, fixing the cars while women get easy stuff such as dusting shelves and then women even ask men for help carrying the groceries. the one responsibility they have (food preparation) they have and they need help. do it yourself, get one of those carts or bring one bag in and then the other.

Driving isn't shitty it's actually relaxing (I guess that's a matter of perspective but personally I find it enjoyable.) Killing bugs? No one here to do that but me and I actually try and let them live if I can...by taking them out of the house and letting them go. I can't quite manage that with very large spiders because I cannot get too close to them without freaking out.

MM, women generally do lots of things that you fail to take into account during all your tabulations. Do you think giving birth is fun and games? Being pregnant? Changing diapers? Cleaning? And women do a fair enough amount of driving and fixing things and manual labor.. and unpleasant chores.

I would hate to be your girlfriend. I'd be wondering if you were keeping a big black accounting book on our relationship...calculating every action, word, deed....what a thought! And here's a thought: what if YOU came out on not side that wasn't "giving as much." What if in all your worrying about what you're not getting or what someone might slight YOU, you've been slighting them?

    It's just a thought.

Of course, women are the weaker sex and will remain the weaker sex!
Why do you think the feminist retards are still shrieking and jumping up and down at the male gender to this very day?
The truth, to them is like hell on earth!
