    What is the Frankfurt School?

    http://www.newtotalitarians.com/FrankfurtSchool.html

This is far too long of an article to copy and paste, but PLEASE, I urge you to take the time to read through this article, as it will make many things clear to you that were nagging in the back of your mind.

Cultural Marxism is what feminism is all about. (Or Fabianistic Gradualism, thanks, Timocrat!).

This is essential reading in understanding the underlying motivations of feminism and its direct relationship with Marxism.

What this article discusses, is essentially, the real enemy! Feminism is its tool!

Re: What is the Frankfurt School?

Here is more on the Frankfurt School - sorry, no link for this one, so I'll just paste it all:

    The Origins of Political Correctness

An Accuracy in Academia Address by Bill Lind

Where does all this stuff that you’ve heard about this morning – the victim feminism, the gay rights movement, the invented statistics, the rewritten history, the lies, the demands, all the rest of it – where does it come from? For the first time in our history, Americans have to be fearful of what they say, of what they write, and of what they think. They have to be afraid of using the wrong word, a word denounced as offensive or insensitive, or racist, sexist, or homophobic.

We have seen other countries, particularly in this century, where this has been the case. And we have always regarded them with a mixture of pity, and to be truthful, some amusement, because it has struck us as so strange that people would allow a situation to develop where they would be afraid of what words they used. But we now have this situation in this country. We have it primarily on college campuses, but it is spreading throughout the whole society. Were does it come from? What is it?

We call it "Political Correctness." The name originated as something of a joke, literally in a comic strip, and we tend still to think of it as only half-serious. In fact, itÂ’s deadly serious. It is the great disease of our century, the disease that has left tens of millions of people dead in Europe, in Russia, in China, indeed around the world. It is the disease of ideology. PC is not funny. PC is deadly serious.

If we look at it analytically, if we look at it historically, we quickly find out exactly what it is. Political Correctness is cultural Marxism. It is Marxism translated from economic into cultural terms. It is an effort that goes back not to the 1960s and the hippies and the peace movement, but back to World War I. If we compare the basic tenets of Political Correctness with classical Marxism the parallels are very obvious.

First of all, both are totalitarian ideologies. The totalitarian nature of Political Correctness is revealed nowhere more clearly than on college campuses, many of which at this point are small ivy covered North Koreas, where the student or faculty member who dares to cross any of the lines set up by the gender feminist or the homosexual-rights activists, or the local black or Hispanic group, or any of the other sainted "victims" groups that PC revolves around, quickly find themselves in judicial trouble. Within the small legal system of the college, they face formal charges – some star-chamber proceeding – and punishment. That is a little look into the future that Political Correctness intends for the nation as a whole.

Indeed, all ideologies are totalitarian because the essence of an ideology (I would note that conservatism correctly understood is not an ideology) is to take some philosophy and say on the basis of this philosophy certain things must be true – such as the whole of the history of our culture is the history of the oppression of women. Since reality contradicts that, reality must be forbidden. It must become forbidden to acknowledge the reality of our history. People must be forced to live a lie, and since people are naturally reluctant to live a lie, they naturally use their ears and eyes to look out and say, "Wait a minute. This isn’t true. I can see it isn’t true," the power of the state must be put behind the demand to live a lie. That is why ideology invariably creates a totalitarian state.

Second, the cultural Marxism of Political Correctness, like economic Marxism, has a single factor explanation of history. Economic Marxism says that all of history is determined by ownership of means of production. Cultural Marxism, or Political Correctness, says that all history is determined by power, by which groups defined in terms of race, sex, etc., have power over which other groups. Nothing else matters. All literature, indeed, is about that. Everything in the past is about that one thing.

Third, just as in classical economic Marxism certain groups, i.e. workers and peasants, are a priori good, and other groups, i.e., the bourgeoisie and capital owners, are evil. In the cultural Marxism of Political Correctness certain groups are good – feminist women, (only feminist women, non-feminist women are deemed not to exist) blacks, Hispanics, homosexuals. These groups are determined to be "victims," and therefore automatically good regardless of what any of them do. Similarly, white males are determined automatically to be evil, thereby becoming the equivalent of the bourgeoisie in economic Marxism.

Fourth, both economic and cultural Marxism rely on expropriation. When the classical Marxists, the communists, took over a country like Russia, they expropriated the bourgeoisie, they took away their property. Similarly, when the cultural Marxists take over a university campus, they expropriate through things like quotas for admissions. When a white student with superior qualifications is denied admittance to a college in favor of a black or Hispanic who isnÂ’t as well qualified, the white student is expropriated. And indeed, affirmative action, in our whole society today, is a system of expropriation. White owned companies donÂ’t get a contract because the contract is reserved for a company owned by, say, Hispanics or women. So expropriation is a principle tool for both forms of Marxism.

And finally, both have a method of analysis that automatically gives the answers they want. For the classical Marxist, itÂ’s Marxist economics. For the cultural Marxist, itÂ’s deconstruction. Deconstruction essentially takes any text, removes all meaning from it and re-inserts any meaning desired. So we find, for example, that all of Shakespeare is about the suppression of women, or the Bible is really about race and gender. All of these texts simply become grist for the mill, which proves that "all history is about which groups have power over which other groups." So the parallels are very evident between the classical Marxism that weÂ’re familiar with in the old Soviet Union and the cultural Marxism that we see today as Political Correctness.

But the parallels are not accidents. The parallels did not come from nothing. The fact of the matter is that Political Correctness has a history, a history that is much longer than many people are aware of outside a small group of academics who have studied this. And the history goes back, as I said, to World War I, as do so many of the pathologies that are today bringing our society, and indeed our culture, down.

Marxist theory said that when the general European war came (as it did come in Europe in 1914), the working class throughout Europe would rise up and overthrow their governments – the bourgeois governments – because the workers had more in common with each other across the national boundaries than they had in common with the bourgeoisie and the ruling class in their own country. Well, 1914 came and it didn’t happen. Throughout Europe, workers rallied to their flag and happily marched off to fight each other. The Kaiser shook hands with the leaders of the Marxist Social Democratic Party in Germany and said there are no parties now, there are only Germans. And this happened in every country in Europe. So something was wrong.

Marxists knew by definition it couldnÂ’t be the theory. In 1917, they finally got a Marxist coup in Russia and it looked like the theory was working, but it stalled again. It didnÂ’t spread and when attempts were made to spread immediately after the war, with the Spartacist uprising in Berlin, with the Bela Kun government in Hungary, with the Munich Soviet, the workers didnÂ’t support them.

So the Marxists’ had a problem. And two Marxist theorists went to work on it: Antonio Gramsci in Italy and Georg Lukacs in Hungary. Gramsci said the workers will never see their true class interests, as defined by Marxism, until they are freed from Western culture, and particularly from the Christian religion – that they are blinded by culture and religion to their true class interests. Lukacs, who was considered the most brilliant Marxist theorist since Marx himself, said in 1919, "Who will save us from Western Civilization?" He also theorized that the great obstacle to the creation of a Marxist paradise was the culture: Western civilization itself.

Lukacs gets a chance to put his ideas into practice, because when the home grown Bolshevik Bela Kun government is established in Hungary in 1919, he becomes deputy commissar for culture, and the first thing he did was introduce sex education into the Hungarian schools. This ensured that the workers would not support the Bela Kun government, because the Hungarian people looked at this aghast, workers as well as everyone else. But he had already made the connection that today many of us are still surprised by, that we would consider the "latest thing."

In 1923 in Germany, a think-tank is established that takes on the role of translating Marxism from economic into cultural terms, that creates Political Correctness as we know it today, and essentially it has created the basis for it by the end of the 1930s. This comes about because the very wealthy young son of a millionaire German trader by the name of Felix Weil has become a Marxist and has lots of money to spend. He is disturbed by the divisions among the Marxists, so he sponsors something called the First Marxist Work Week, where he brings Lukacs and many of the key German thinkers together for a week, working on the differences of Marxism.

And he says, "What we need is a think-tank." Washington is full of think tanks and we think of them as very modern. In fact they go back quite a ways. He endows an institute, associated with Frankfurt University, established in 1923, that was originally supposed to be known as the Institute for Marxism. But the people behind it decided at the beginning that it was not to their advantage to be openly identified as Marxist. The last thing Political Correctness wants is for people to figure out itÂ’s a form of Marxism. So instead they decide to name it the Institute for Social Research.

Weil is very clear about his goals. In 1971, he wrote to Martin Jay the author of a principle book on the Frankfurt School, as the Institute for Social Research soon becomes known informally, and he said, "I wanted the institute to become known, perhaps famous, due to its contributions to Marxism." Well, he was successful. The first director of the Institute, Carl Grunberg, an Austrian economist, concluded his opening address, according to Martin Jay, "by clearly stating his personal allegiance to Marxism as a scientific methodology." Marxism, he said, would be the ruling principle at the Institute, and that never changed.

The initial work at the Institute was rather conventional, but in 1930 it acquired a new director named Max Horkheimer, and HorkheimerÂ’s views were very different. He was very much a Marxist renegade. The people who create and form the Frankfurt School are renegade Marxists. TheyÂ’re still very much Marxist in their thinking, but theyÂ’re effectively run out of the party. Moscow looks at what they are doing and says, "Hey, this isnÂ’t us, and weÂ’re not going to bless this."

Horkheimer’s initial heresy is that he is very interested in Freud, and the key to making the translation of Marxism from economic into cultural terms is essentially that he combined it with Freudism. Again, Martin Jay writes, "If it can be said that in the early years of its history, the Institute concerned itself primarily with an analysis of bourgeois society’s socio-economic sub-structure," – and I point out that Jay is very sympathetic to the Frankfurt School, I’m not reading from a critic here – "in the years after 1930 its primary interests lay in its cultural superstructure. Indeed the traditional Marxist formula regarding the relationship between the two was brought into question by Critical Theory."

The stuff we’ve been hearing about this morning – the radical feminism, the women’s studies departments, the gay studies departments, the black studies departments – all these things are branches of Critical Theory. What the Frankfurt School essentially does is draw on both Marx and Freud in the 1930s to create this theory called Critical Theory. The term is ingenious because you’re tempted to ask, "What is the theory?" The theory is to criticize. The theory is that the way to bring down Western culture and the capitalist order is not to lay down an alternative. They explicitly refuse to do that. They say it can’t be done, that we can’t imagine what a free society would look like (their definition of a free society). As long as we’re living under repression – the repression of a capitalistic economic order which creates (in their theory) the Freudian condition, the conditions that Freud describes in individuals of repression – we can’t even imagine it. What Critical Theory is about is simply criticizing. It calls for the most destructive criticism possible, in every possible way, designed to bring the current order down. And, of course, when we hear from the feminists that the whole of society is just out to get women and so on, that kind of criticism is a derivative of Critical Theory. It is all coming from the 1930s, not the 1960s.

Other key members who join up around this time are Theodore Adorno, and, most importantly, Erich Fromm and Herbert Marcuse. Fromm and Marcuse introduce an element which is central to Political Correctness, and that’s the sexual element. And particularly Marcuse, who in his own writings calls for a society of "polymorphous perversity," that is his definition of the future of the world that they want to create. Marcuse in particular by the 1930s is writing some very extreme stuff on the need for sexual liberation, but this runs through the whole Institute. So do most of the themes we see in Political Correctness, again in the early 30s. In Fromm’s view, masculinity and femininity were not reflections of ‘essential’ sexual differences, as the Romantics had thought. They were derived instead from differences in life functions, which were in part socially determined." Sex is a construct; sexual differences are a construct.

Another example is the emphasis we now see on environmentalism. "Materialism as far back as Hobbes had led to a manipulative dominating attitude toward nature." That was Horkhemier writing in 1933 in Materialismus und Moral. "The theme of manÂ’s domination of nature," according to Jay, " was to become a central concern of the Frankfurt School in subsequent years." "HorkheimerÂ’s antagonism to the fetishization of labor, (hereÂ’s were theyÂ’re obviously departing from Marxist orthodoxy) expressed another dimension of his materialism, the demand for human, sensual happiness." In one of his most trenchant essays, Egoism and the Movement for Emancipation, written in 1936, Horkeimer "discussed the hostility to personal gratification inherent in bourgeois culture." And he specifically referred to the Marquis de Sade, favorably, for his "protestÂ…against asceticism in the name of a higher morality."

How does all of this stuff flood in here? How does it flood into our universities, and indeed into our lives today? The members of the Frankfurt School are Marxist, they are also, to a man, Jewish. In 1933 the Nazis came to power in Germany, and not surprisingly they shut down the Institute for Social Research. And its members fled. They fled to New York City, and the Institute was reestablished there in 1933 with help from Columbia University. And the members of the Institute, gradually through the 1930s, though many of them remained writing in German, shift their focus from Critical Theory about German society, destructive criticism about every aspect of that society, to Critical Theory directed toward American society. There is another very important transition when the war comes. Some of them go to work for the government, including Herbert Marcuse, who became a key figure in the OSS (the predecessor to the CIA), and some, including Horkheimer and Adorno, move to Hollywood.

These origins of Political Correctness would probably not mean too much to us today except for two subsequent events. The first was the student rebellion in the mid-1960s, which was driven largely by resistance to the draft and the Vietnam War. But the student rebels needed theory of some sort. They couldn’t just get out there and say, "Hell no we won’t go," they had to have some theoretical explanation behind it. Very few of them were interested in wading through Das Kapital. Classical, economic Marxism is not light, and most of the radicals of the 60s were not deep. Fortunately for them, and unfortunately for our country today, and not just in the university, Herbert Marcuse remained in America when the Frankfurt School relocated back to Frankfurt after the war. And whereas Mr. Adorno in Germany is appalled by the student rebellion when it breaks out there – when the student rebels come into Adorno’s classroom, he calls the police and has them arrested – Herbert Marcuse, who remained here, saw the 60s student rebellion as the great chance. He saw the opportunity to take the work of the Frankfurt School and make it the theory of the New Left in the United States.

One of Marcuse’s books was the key book. It virtually became the bible of the SDS and the student rebels of the 60s. That book was Eros and Civilization. Marcuse argues that under a capitalistic order (he downplays the Marxism very strongly here, it is subtitled, A Philosophical Inquiry into Freud, but the framework is Marxist), repression is the essence of that order and that gives us the person Freud describes – the person with all the hang-ups, the neuroses, because his sexual instincts are repressed. We can envision a future, if we can only destroy this existing oppressive order, in which we liberate eros, we liberate libido, in which we have a world of "polymorphous perversity," in which you can "do you own thing." And by the way, in that world there will no longer be work, only play. What a wonderful message for the radicals of the mid-60s! They’re students, they’re baby-boomers, and they’ve grown up never having to worry about anything except eventually having to get a job. And here is a guy writing in a way they can easily follow. He doesn’t require them to read a lot of heavy Marxism and tells them everything they want to hear which is essentially, "Do your own thing," "If it feels good do it," and "You never have to go to work." By the way, Marcuse is also the man who creates the phrase, "Make love, not war." Coming back to the situation people face on campus, Marcuse defines "liberating tolerance" as intolerance for anything coming from the Right and tolerance for anything coming from the Left. Marcuse joined the Frankfurt School, in 1932 (if I remember right). So, all of this goes back to the 1930s.

In conclusion, America today is in the throws of the greatest and direst transformation in its history. We are becoming an ideological state, a country with an official state ideology enforced by the power of the state. In "hate crimes" we now have people serving jail sentences for political thoughts. And the Congress is now moving to expand that category ever further. Affirmative action is part of it. The terror against anyone who dissents from Political Correctness on campus is part of it. ItÂ’s exactly what we have seen happen in Russia, in Germany, in Italy, in China, and now itÂ’s coming here. And we donÂ’t recognize it because we call it Political Correctness and laugh it off. My message today is that itÂ’s not funny, itÂ’s here, itÂ’s growing and it will eventually destroy, as it seeks to destroy, everything that we have ever defined as our freedom and our culture.

Re: What is the Frankfurt School?

    And, yet some more!

    Gramsci's Grand Plan
    by Fr. James Thornton

One of the most interesting aspects of the study of history is that very often men born in the most humble of circumstances nevertheless rise up to affect the course of human history dramatically. They may be men of action or men of thought, yet in either case their activities can father tremendous changes across the years. Antonio Gramsci was both a man of action and thought and, whatever the outcome of the events of the next several decades, he will almost certainly be reckoned by future historians to have been a remarkable figure.
Born in obscurity on the island of Sardinia in 1891, Gramsci would not have been considered a prime candidate to impact significantly the 20th century. Gramsci studied philosophy and history at the University of Turin, and soon became a dedicated Marxist, joining the Italian Socialist Party. Immediately after the First World War, he established his own radical newspaper, The New Order [Ordine Nuovo], and shortly afterwards helped in the founding of the Italian Communist Party.

    Disillusioned Marxist
The fascist "March on Rome," and the appointment of Benito Mussolini to the prime ministry, impelled the young Marxist theorist to depart Italy. Casting about for a new home, he chose the most logical place for a Communist, Lenin's newly fashioned USSR. However, Soviet Russia was not what he had expected. His powers of observation wakened immediately to the distance that so often separates theory from reality. A fanatical Marxist insofar as political, economic, and historical theories were concerned, Gramsci was profoundly disturbed that life in Communist Russia exhibited little evidence of any deeply felt love on the part of the workers for the "paradise" that Lenin had constructed for them. Even less was there any deep attachment to such concepts as the "proletarian revolution" or "dictatorship of the proletariat," apart from the obligatory rhetoric.
On the contrary, it was obvious to Gramsci that the "paradise" of the working class maintained its old hold over workers and peasants only by sheer terror, by mass murder on a gargantuan scale, and by the ubiquitous, gnawing fear of midnight knocks on the door and of forced-labor camps in the Siberian wilderness. Also crucial to Lenin's state was a continuous drumbeat of propaganda, slogans, and outright lies. It was all very disillusioning for Gramsci. While other men might have reassessed their entire ideological outlook after such experiences, Gramsci's subtle, analytical mind worked on the seeming paradox differently.
The death of Lenin and the seizure of power by Stalin caused Gramsci immediately to reconsider his choice of residence. Building upon Lenin's achievements in terror and tyranny, Stalin began to transform agrarian Russia into an industrial giant that would then turn all of its energies to military conquest. It was Stalin's design to build the greatest military machine in history, crush the "forces of reaction," and impose Communism on Europe and Asia--and later on the whole world--by brute force. In the meantime, however, to consolidate and assure his power, Stalin systematically commenced the extermination of potential foes within his own camp. That, as it turned out, became an ongoing process, one that lasted until his own demise. In particular, men suspected of even the slightest ideological heresy in relation to Stalin's own interpretation of Marxism-Leninism were sent straight to torture chambers or death camps, or were hurried before firing squads.

    Prison "Prophet"
His days obviously numbered in Stalinist Russia, Gramsci decided to return home and take up the struggle against Mussolini. Seen as both a serious threat to the safety of the fascist regime and a likely agent of a hostile foreign power, after a relatively short time Gramsci was arrested and sentenced to a lengthy term of imprisonment, and there, in his prison cell, he devoted the nine years that were left to him to writing. Before his death from tuberculosis in 1937, Gramsci produced nine volumes of observations on history, sociology, Marxist theory, and, most importantly, Marxist strategy. Those volumes, known as the Prison Notebooks, have since been published in many languages and distributed throughout the world. Their significance comes from the fact that they form the foundation for a dramatic new Marxist strategy, one that makes the "spontaneous revolution" of Lenin as obsolete as hoop skirts and high button shoes, one that promises to win the world voluntarily to Marxism, and one based on a realistic appraisal of historical fact and human psychology, rather than on empty wishes and illusions.
As we shall see, Gramsci's shrewd assessment of the true essence of Marxism and of mankind makes his writings among the most powerful in this century. While Gramsci himself would die an ignominious and lonely death in a fascist prison, his thoughts would attain a life of their own and rise up to menace the world. What are these ideas?

    Essence of the Red Revolution
Gramsci's signal contribution was to liberate the Marxist project from the prison of economic dogma, thereby dramatically enhancing its ability to subvert Christian society.
If we were to take the ideological pronouncements of Marx and Lenin at face value, we would believe--as have millions of their deluded disciples--that the uprising of the workers was inevitable, and that all that was to be done was to mobilize the underclass through propaganda, thereby sparking universal revolution. Of course, this premise is invalid, yet it remained inflexible doctrine among Communists--at least, for public consumption.
However, the hard core of the Communist movement consisted of ruthless criminals, clear-eyed in their understanding of the intellectual errors of Marxism, who were willing to employ any necessary means to obtain the power they sought. For such hardened, hate-intoxicated conspirators, ideology is a tactic, a means of mobilizing supporters and rationalizing criminal actions.
Those who accept uncritically the idea that "Communism is dead" fail to understand the true nature of the enemy. Communism is not an ideology in which one believes. Rather, it is a criminal conspiracy in which one enlists. Although Lenin professed to revere Marx's scribblings as sacred writ, once his Bolsheviks had seized power in Russia, Lenin freely modified Marxism to suit his needs. The same was true of Stalin. The Bolsheviks did not come to power in Russia by any uprising of the workers and peasants, but by a coup d' etat, orchestrated by a tightly disciplined Marxist cadre and ultimately consolidated by civil war. They also received--lest it be forgotten--critical help from Western political and banking elites.
In similar fashion, Communism did not come to power in Eastern Europe by revolution, but rather through the imposition of that system by a conquering Red Army--and, once again, through the corrupt connivance of conspirators in the West. In China, Communism came to power through civil war, aided by the Soviets and by traitorous elements in the west.
In no single instance has Communism ever achieved power by means of any popular revolutionary upheaval, but always by force or subterfuge. The only popular revolutionary upheavals recorded in the 20th century have been anti-Marxist "counter-revolutions," such as the revolt in Berlin in 1954 and the Hungarian uprising of 1956.
Looking back on the 20th century, it is clear that Marx was wrong in his assumption that most workers and peasants were dissatisfied with their places in, and alienated from, their societies, that they were seething with resentment against the middle and upper classes, or that they in any way were predisposed to revolution. Moreover, wherever Communism achieved power, its use of unprecedented levels of violence, coercion, and repression have generated underground opposition at home and militant opposition abroad, making endless killing and repression endemic to Marxism and essential for Communist survival. All of these undeniable facts, when examined honestly, posed insurmountable difficulties insofar as further extensions of Communist power were concerned, and assured some kind of ultimate crisis for Marxism.
While the foregoing is obvious to perceptive observers now, looking back from the vantage point of our time and after more than eight decades of experience with the reality of Communism in power, we begin to understand something of the insightfulness of Antonio Gramsci when we realize that what is evident now, at the close of the millennium, was evident to him when the Soviet regime was in its infancy and Communism [a] still largely untried conjecture.
Gramsci was a brilliant student of philosophy, history, and languages. This education imparted to him an excellent grasp of the character of his fellow men and of the character of the societies that made up the civilized community of nations in the early decades of this century. As we have already seen, one of the foundational insights given him by this education was that Communist hopes for a spontaneous revolution, brought about by some process of historical inevitability, were illusory. Marxist ideologues were, he asserted, beguiling themselves. In the Gramscian view workers and peasants were not, by and large, revolutionary-minded and they harbored no desire for the destruction of the existing order. Most had loyalties beyond, and far more powerful than, class considerations, even in those instances where their lives were less than ideal. More meaningful to ordinary people than class solidarity and class warfare were such things as faith in God and love of family and country. These were foremost among their overriding allegiances.Such attractiveness as Communist promises might possess among the working classes was, moreover, diminished by Communist brutalities and by heavy-handed totalitarian methods. Stirring the aristocratic and bourgeois classes to action, these negative attributes were so terrifying and sobering that militant anti-Marxist organizations and movements sprang up everywhere, effectively putting a halt to plans for Communist expansion. With all of this easily apparent to him, and, blessed in a way with the seemingly endless leisure afforded by prison life, Gramsci turned his excellent mind to saving Marxism by analyzing and solving these questions.

    Subverting Christian Faith
The civilized world, Gramsci deduced, had been thoroughly saturated with Christianity for 2,000 years and Christianity remains the dominant philosophical and moral system in Europe and North America. Practically speaking, civilization and Christianity were inextricably bound together. Christianity had become so thoroughly integrated into the daily lives of nearly everyone, including non-Christians living in Christian lands, it was so pervasive, that it formed an almost impenetrable barrier to the new, revolutionary civilization Marxists wish to create. Attempting to batter down that barrier proved unproductive, since it only generated powerful counter-revolutionary forces, consolidating them and making them potentially deadly. Therefore, in place of the frontal attack, how much more advantageous and less hazardous it would be to attack the enemy's society subtly, with the aim of transforming the society's collective mind gradually, over a period of a few generations, from its former Christian worldview into one more harmonious to Marxism. And there was more.
Whereas conventional Marxist-Leninists were hostile towards the non-Communist left, Gramsci argued that alliances with a broad spectrum of leftist groups would prove essential to Communist victory. In Gramsci's time these included, among others, trade unions, and socialist political groups. In our time, alliances with the left would include radical feminists, extremist environmentalists, "civil rights" movements, anti-police associations, internationalists, ultra-liberal church groups, and so forth. These organizations, along with open Communists, together create a united front working for the transformation of the old Christian culture.
What Gramsci proposed, in short, was a renovation of Communist methodology and a streamlining and updating of Marx's antiquated strategies. Let there be no doubt that Gramsci's vision of the future was entirely Marxist and that he accepted the validity of Marxism's overall worldview. Where he differed was in the process for achieving the victory of that worldview. Gramsci wrote that "there can and must be a 'political hegemony' even before assuming government power, and in order to exercise political leadership or hegemony one must not count solely on the power and material force that are given by government." What he meant is that it is incumbent upon Marxists to win the hearts and minds of the people, and not to rest hopes for the future solely on force or power.
Furthermore, Communists were enjoined to put aside some of their class prejudice in the struggle for power, seeking to win even elements within the bourgeois classes, a process which Gramsci described as "the absorption of the elites of the enemy classes." Not only would this strengthen Marxism with new blood, but it would deprive the enemy of this lost talent. Winning the bright sons and daughters of the bourgeoisie to the red banner, wrote Gramsci, "results in [the anti-Marxist forces'] decapitation and renders them impotent." In short, violence and force will not by themselves genuinely transform the world. Rather it is through winning hegemony over the minds of the people and in robbing enemy classes of their most gifted men that Marxism will triumph over all.

    Free-Will Slaves
Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, a classic study of modern totalitarianism, contains a line that epitomizes the concept that Gramsci tried to convey to his party comrades: "A really efficient totalitarian state would be one in which the all-powerful executive of political bosses and their army of managers control a population of slaves who do not have to be coerced, because they love their servitude." While it is improbable that Huxley was familiar with Gramsci's theories, the idea he conveys of free persons marching willingly into bondage is nevertheless precisely what Gramsci had in mind.
Gramsci believed that if Communism achieved "mastery of human consciousness," then labor camps and mass murder would be unnecessary. How does an ideology gain such mastery over patterns of thought inculcated by cultures for hundreds of years? Mastery over the consciousness of the great mass of people would be attained, Gramsci contended, if Communists or their sympathizers gained control of the organs of culture--churches, education, newspapers, magazines, the electronic media, serious literature, music, the visual arts, and so on. By winning "cultural hegemony," to use Gramsci's own term, Communism would control the deepest wellsprings of human thought and imagination. One need not even control all of the information itself if one can gain control over the minds that assimilate that information. Under such conditions, serious opposition disappears since men are no longer capable of grasping the arguments of Marxism's opponents. Men will indeed "love their servitude," and will not even realize that it is servitude.

    Steps in the Process
The first phase in achieving "cultural hegemony" over a nation is the undermining of all elements of traditional culture. Churches are thus transformed into ideology-driven political clubs, with the stress on "social justice" and egalitarianism, with worship reduced to trivialized entertainment, and with age-old doctrinal and moral teachings "modernized" or diminished to the point of irrelevancy [ala the rantings of our Greek-American "useful idiots" who comprise the leadership of such organizations as OCL and GOAL, etc. ed.]. Genuine education is replaced by "dumbed down" and "politically correct" curricula, and standards are reduced dramatically. The mass media are fashioned into instruments for mass manipulation and for harassing and discrediting traditional institutions and their spokesmen. Morality, decency, and old virtues are ridiculed without respite. Tradition-minded clergymen are portrayed as hypocrites and virtuous men and women as prudish, stuffy, and unenlightened.
Culture is no longer a buttress supporting the integrity of the national heritage and a vehicle for imparting that heritage to future generations, but becomes a means for "destroying ideals and...presenting the young not with heroic examples but with deliberately and aggressively degenerate ones," as theologian Harold O.J. Brown writes. We see this in contemporary American life, in which the great historical symbols of our nation's past, including great presidents, soldiers, explorers, and thinkers are shown to have been unforgivably flawed with "racism" and "sexism" and therefore basically evil. Their place has been taken by pro-Marxist charlatans, pseudo-intellectuals, rock stars, leftist movie celebrities, and the like. At another level, traditional Christian culture is condemned as repressive, "Eurocentric," and "racist" and, thus, unworthy of our continued devotion. In its place, unalloyed primitivism in the guise of "multiculturalism" is held as the new model.
Marriage and family, the very building blocks of our society, are perpetually attacked and subverted. Marriage is portrayed as a plot by men to perpetuate an evil system of domination over women and children. The family is depicted as a dangerous institution epitomized by violence and exploitation. Patriarchally oriented families are, according to the Gramscians, the precursors of fascism, Nazism, and every organized form of racial persecution.

    The Frankfurt School
With respect to the subject of the undermining of the American family, and to many other aspects of the Gramscian technique, let us explore briefly the story of the Frankfurt School. This organization of leftist intellectuals, also known as the Frankfurt Institute for Social Research, was founded in the 1920s in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. There it flourished amidst the decadence of the Weimar period, both compounding and feeding off the decadence, and extending its influence throughout the country.
With Hitler's acquisition of the chancellorship in 1933, the leftist stalwarts of the Frankfurt School fled Germany for the United States, where they soon established a new institute at Columbia University. As is characteristic of such men, they repaid their debt to the U.S. for sheltering them from Nazi brutality by turning their attention to what they regarded as the injustices and social deficiencies inherent to our system and society. Immediately they set about devising a program of revolutionary reform for America.
Max Horkeimer, one of the notables of the Frankfurt School, determined that America's profound allegiance to the traditional family was a mark of our national inclination towards the same fascist system from which he had fled. Explaining this connection between fascism and the American family, he declared: "When the child respects in his father's strength a moral relationship and thus learns to love what his reason recognizes to be a fact, he is experiencing his first training for the bourgeois authority relationship."
Commenting critically on Horkheimer's theory, Arthur Herman writes in The Idea of Decline in Western History: "The typical modern family, then, involves 'sadomasochistic resolution of the Oedipus complex,' producing a psychological cripple, the 'authoritarian personality.' The individual's hatred of the father is suspended and remains unresolved, becoming instead an attraction for strong authority figures whom he obeys unquestioningly."
The traditional patriarchal family is thus a breeding ground for fascism, according to Horkheimer, and charismatic authority figures--men like Hitler and Mussolini--are the ultimate beneficiaries of the "authoritarian personality" instilled by the traditional family and culture. [The careers of such non-traditional culture destroyers as Clinton, Blair and Papandreou blows this whole masturbatory fantasy out of the water. But what do you expect from ivory-tower "intellectuals" who never met a payroll? For more on the extensive damage done to civilization by such creatures see Paul Johnson's great book on the subject titled Intellectuals, as well as the "fairy tale" on this website titled "Thanasaki Goes to College." ed.]
Theodor W. Adorno, another notable of the Frankfurt School, underscored Horkeimer's theory with his own study, published in book form as The Authoritarian Personality, which he authored together with Else Frenkel-Brunswik, Daniel J. Levinson, and R. Nevitt Sanford. Upon closer examination, it became apparent to critics that the research on which The Authoritarian Personality was based was pseudo-sociological, flawed in its methodology and skewed in its conclusions. But the critics were ignored.
America, Adorno and his research team pronounced, was ripe for its own, home-grown fascist takeover. Not only was the American population hopelessly racist and anti-Semitic, but it had far too acquiescent an attitude towards authority figures such as fathers, policemen, clergy, military leaders, and so forth. It was also far too obsessed with such "fascist" notions as efficiency, cleanliness, and success, for these qualities revealed an inward "pessimistic and contemptuous view of humanity," a view that leads, Adorno held, to fascism.
Through such unmitigated balderdash as one finds in the writings of Horkeimer, Adorno, and the other luminaries of the Frankfurt School, the structures of the traditional family and traditional virtue have been called seriously into question and confidence in them blunted. Elected government officials and bureaucrats have contributed to this problem through government taxation policies, which mulct the traditional family while subsidizing anti-traditional modes of life.
Additionally, these officials are inclined more and more towards the elevation of abominations such as homosexual and illicit heterosexual unions to the same level as marriage. Already, in many localities throughout the country and in numerous private corporations, benefits previously reserved to married couples are now granted to unmarried sexual "partners." Even the word "family" is slowly being superseded by the vague euphemism "household."

    A Lawless Land
Americans have long boasted that their nation is a government of law, not of men. American law is derived directly from English common law and from the biblical and [Helleno-]Christian principles that are at the root of English common law. One would therefore expect law to constitute one of the chief barriers against the subversion of our society. Instead, in the field, revolutionary change has become the order of the day, change so astounding that it could not have been imagined by Americans of 50 years ago. None would have dreamed of the outlawing of prayer and any expression of religious conviction on public property, the legalization of abortion as a constitutionally guaranteed "right," and the legalization of pornography, to mention but three.
Crucial to the Gramscians' success is the disappearance of all memory of the old civilization and way of life. The older America of unregulated lives, honest government, clean cities, crime-free streets, morally edifying entertainment, and a family-oriented way of life is no longer vivid in the minds of many Americans. Once it is gone completely, nothing will stand in the way of the new Marxist civilization, which demonstrates as nothing else that through the Gramscian method it is indeed possible to "Marxize the inner man," as Malachi Martin wrote in The Keys of This Blood. Then and only then, writes Fr. Martin, "could you successfully dangle the utopia of the 'Workers' Paradise" before his eyes, to be accepted in a peaceful and humanely agreeable manner, without revolution or violence or bloodshed."
It must be evident to all but the most simple souls that after the passage of a generation or two, such ceaseless social conditioning is bound to alter the consciousness and inner-substance of a society, and it is bound to produce significant structural crises within that society, crises that manifest themselves in numberless ways in virtually every community throughout the country.

    The Good Fight
It may seem to some that the situation in our nation is hopeless and that no force or agency can possibly put a halt to the insidious strategies working to destroy us. Despite the grim chronicle of the past 60 or 70 years, however, there is still much that may be done and much reason for hope. Families and individual men and women still possess, to a large extent, the freedom to avoid and escape the mind-altering social conditioning of the Gramscians. They have the power to shield themselves from these influences and especially to shield their young. There are alternatives to public schools, television, trashy movies, and strident "rock" music, and those alternatives must be embraced. The propaganda and cultural strychnine must be excluded from our lives.
Those in charge of young people have an especially weighty responsibility. Despite all of the efforts of the radical left and of their sympathizers in the schools and media to transmute young Americans into savages, they must not be allowed to succeed, because disorganized minds--mental vortices of anarchism and nihilism--have no powers of resistance. Savages soon become slaves. Children and youths should be introduced to such bedrock concepts of God and country through the lives of authentic national heroes--men like George Washington, Nathan Hale, John Paul Jones, and Robert E. Lee.
Similarly, they will better be able to retain civilized values and maintain healthy minds if they are encouraged to learn to love their cultural inheritance through great literature, poetry, music, and art. Parents must demand from their children the upholding of the morals, manners, and standards of their ancestors. In school, the young must be required to adhere to high standards of scholarship. Most importantly, traditional religion must be an integral part of daily living.
We as citizens must also exercise our persuasive powers over our elected representatives. In doing this our mindset must be one of demanding absolute non-compromise from politicians. Likewise, in choosing elected representatives at every level, we must look to men...who refuse to compromise.
Just as importantly, the honorable, uncompromising men...we elect to represent us must be made aware of the Gramscian strategy of cultural subversion: they must be able to recognize the tactics and strategies being used to undermine the institutions upon which our liberties depend. Building that understanding will, in turn, require the creation of an educated and principled electorate [such as the readers of TGR. ed.] that will impart this wisdom to our representatives--and hold them accountable once they have been entrusted with elective office.
We should never allow ourselves to be stampeded, herd like, into forming opinions and judgments stimulated and orchestrated by the sensationalism of the press and the other media masters. Instead, we must calmly resist their mind-control techniques. We must strive to be independent thinkers. Realizing that we are not alone, we should turn to tradition-minded churches, schools, and political and educational organizations, and there lend our voices and support to the creation of bastions of resistance to the Gramscian onslaught.
Finally, we must never give up our faith in the future and our hope for a better America and and world. God, with His infinite power and boundless love for us, will never forsake us but will answer our prayers and reward our efforts, as long as we do not lose our faith. Marxism--and whatever other flags the total state parades under these days--are not inevitable and are not the wave of the future. As long as we think and act in the indomitable spirit of our forefathers, we cannot fail.

Re: What is the Frankfurt School?

Well it continues to amaze me how much pulling together of ideas seems to be done on these forums. Rob you have pulled together some important things and fill in the gaps of other thinkers here, for me personally at least. I understand that most of this work isnÂ’t yours, but it is putting the most important parts, that can be sometimes be more important that even writing such material, you have done wonders. Reading has a power all its own (as you have demonstrated).

First in showing the trial of Gradualism and Fabianistic thought, from the Frankfurt school, to the US and then to the 60s you have hunted down this social dysfunctionÂ’s roots and path.

Second in pointing out their declared tactics of “never providing any info on the planned system they wish to replace” and instead “just deconstruct endlessly the one that stands” (or is no crumbling), you provide the theme that many a man has dealt with in discussions, debates and more on these forums and many other occasions.

Third, you have shown it isnÂ’t so much a conspiracy we are dealing with, as an appeal by those who canÂ’t stage a coup, or actual use a consciously to take power to instead simply cause social chaos by playing to the opposite of what builds or stands. As the Chinese mystic/philosopher Lao did to the Confucian center state in China in his time. In LaoÂ’s time the state was a dictatorship though, and he had no other course available to him. Yet these Fabians wish to undermine an open tolerant, secular, liberty based society with their mere desire for something better in an undeclared Marxist tone to arise form the ashes (that they wish to appear like magic, which to date has always been in the form of a dictatorship).

Stone Age replacing patriarchal leadership must be turn into female leadership again, traditional families into and other kinds of familiesÂ’ nonfamilarous, justice and discipline into injustice & indiscipline and freedom of speech into political correctness and so on. Culture, politics and fashion become more important that honor and philosophy/theology and history that are farsightedly logical, all because it helps in undermining what has worked and keeps the system down- or on life support. Like Lao everything is turned on its head so as to make the successfully traditions into being all-bad by using fashionable plausible-deniability undermining.

Our own T3 think tank seems like a natural or instinctive counter reaction, on a gut level, to the other side. We are now 80-90 years into this constantly mutating form off indirect war, and are now only taking the first steps in answering these dishonorable efforts. They being dishonorable because they treat strangers, unknown cultures, as well as the more familiar ones, like enemies. They care for nothing but bringing down father, or his ideas down. Like the Christians say of Lucifer and God.

Everything to counter this has been piecemeal to date, for when traditional representatives object to these indirect reforms it can easily be counted with rhetoric aimed at the traditionalistsÂ’ conflict of interest (they want to keep their profiting ways alive etc.)

This answers why there are so many anti-XXX. Anti-PC, Anti-UN Anti-ACLU, for to say I’m pro-tradition is to be unfashionable and a defender of the long list of rhetorical slights they have in their deconstructionist laps ready to use on any so unfashionable as to say, “Well that tradition served a purpose that…” -Nazi, Nazi Nazi comes the shouting soon after.

Also this points to why traditionalists usually attack these bad institutions for they have no agenda (directly put forth) to be opposed to. For if presented it would be very likely cut to ribbons with logic. Conspiracies theories abound too for it discredits again the status quo, and that in their eyes is again another way to undermine the status quo and project their prefer modus operandi on to others.

This is why when faced with logical arguments things go to desires too quickly, for they feel everything is Freud and they claim we merely wish to win arguments too (stating a truism) as if this means no one who wants to win ever wants top win because they are logical, honorable and presenting arguments to learn and teach. By being this way they are self-fulfilling too. As you may have seen if one side is always using rhetoric and the other side is often forced to answer it.

This goes to the heart of the attack on males and history. The one force that stands for tradition instinctively and the other that holds on to things that can take us back and record what has been done. This is why black men come second to white women getting positions in affirmative action. Black men are used only to undermine the establishment to then push threw things that do black men no good (as can be seen by the state of so many black families in the US). This also shows why in other countries that are directed by the UN they fail to stabilize 3rd world countries after decades and trillions of dollars. They are permanent deconstructionists and their ideas never work in building anything. This for most of them isnÂ’t planned, it is just people following emotions turned into ideas and fanned by fashion, for following desires has a short term satisfaction all its own.

You have filled in the missing gaps for me. IÂ’ve been set to solutions, but you have thoroughly completed the picture and pegged it with an exclamation point. I donÂ’t know how many will be able to make it through this excellent work, but it is time to study solutions. Then when you have that pegged it will be time to hammer out with other men what must be done.

One trap I have found with solipsists is the need of many effeminates to go over and over again from new angles on the same emotional thing (I think Duncan had a article from 18 Volts that touched on this). We can’t slip into this love of constant reevaluation of things we have dealt with. There was a philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein (hope he wasn’t from the Frankfurt school) who said (when asked why he had given up on writing philosophical books, for he had in effect pegged it) was he had nothing else he could add to the discussion. The question now, “Is it time for Rob to find a new subject to study, a play for endless solipsistic reevaluation of the same material, or a moving to solutions and the every present need to hammer out with other men (and their views) on what will get us to just actions to bring about a just result to the plight of men.”

This problem is virtually untouched in deeds, and even real thought, and has many claiming like the Fox and the Grapes, “We don’t need unity for there is no power in numbers and to compromise is to follow a dictator.” They have framed this argument in such a way as to oppose their fox ways it is to be a dictator. The unjustness of this defense is only second to the flaw in following such a doomed policy. I hope you see this for you are a very bright guy.

Smile Re: What is the Frankfurt School?

What a fantastic Christmas present! These posts will soon be e-mailed to my daughter at university, where she is enrolled in the study of journalism. She is getting her first exposure to the academic "dictatorship of virtue", in the form of gender studies, history of Islam, multi-cultural diversity course requirements, and the pervasive PC-atmosphere of an elite private U.S. school.

The whole contemporary reexamination of cultural Marxism interests me greatly, because I was schooled in it myself, back when it was the "avante garde" academic up-and-coming thing --- degrees in mass communications, fine arts, education --- but all very much informed by Marxist theory.

(Quote from above post -- ) "And finally, both have a method of analysis that automatically gives the answers they want. For the classical Marxist, itÂ’s Marxist economics. For the cultural Marxist, itÂ’s deconstruction. Deconstruction essentially takes any text, removes all meaning from it and re-inserts any meaning desired."

I would take issue with that argument, especially the "removes all meaning" idea.

Deconstruction for all of its many faults has one redeeming value: it returns to the "receiver" of a text, a work of art, a mass media program, a political agenda, a fake revolution, etc. -- the AGENCY to truly interact with that work, that expression, that experience, that politics ---

as opposed to simply accepting an authoritarian definition of "what it means."

(This concept of agency is especially subversive in a mass consumer culture, as it sanctifies the need to interrogate ...)

Deconstruction argues for multiple interpretations -- whether it's Mona Lisa's smile, Shakespeare's plays, or the menu at McDonald's.

In other words, deconstruction advocates an active, critical RESISTANCE to assumed hegemonic creeds --- including, ironically, all things PC.

I would suggest that the very existence of the so-called Men's Movement is an (unconscious?) act of post-modernist deconstruction.

    Of feminism.

Be careful about what theoretical tools you cast aside gents!

You don't want to find yourself in the lower decks of a hypothetical sinking ship without the requisite spanner! ;-)

Re: What is the Frankfurt School?

I touched on the Frankfurt School on a previous thread - Culture of Men Bad
    http://www.antimisandry.com/vbdr/for...ead.php?t=3150

Some Board members were sceptical of conspiracy theories or perhaps did not want to contemplate such forces at play.

I am new to the Mens Movement and am somewhat hesitant to put my thoughts forward in view of the experience of other members.

    However, for what it's worth.................

We know that the U.N. has alluded to a World Government (President Bush senior has spoken of a 'New World Order')

We know that in order to achieve a World Government the U.N. has stated that it first has to-

1 Deconstruct mens sense of patriotism.

2 Deconstruct mens sense of religion.

    3 Deconstruct the family.

    4 Deconstruct racism.

In th U.K. the Labour Government has been at pains to rubbish our sense of Britishness, telling us there is no such thing as Britishness. We are an Island that has undergone many transformations over the centuries with numerous invasions etc.

Christianity has been under attack from many quarters and many different levels. Can you say Christmas?

Feminist laws and financial penalties have been put in place to deconstruct marriage and there are even proposals to put in place feminist laws for co-habitating couples.

There have been laws put in place that attract more severe penalties if the crime is considered to be aggravated by racism. Mass immigration has taken place, supposedly to fill jobs that Britain's do not want to do, or is it to prop up our falling birthrate, or even to destroy our sense of britishness. Perhaps it serves many purposes.

The question is why? I appreciate that the people passing through western universities in the sixties and seventies are now in Political Power or are in senior positions in the Media. Does that fully explain why Cultural Marxism and the Feminist Movement are being shoved down our throats.

Does it explain why India has suddenly adopted extreme feminist family laws. I know that MRA'S in India lay the blame at the door of America and the U.N. Are they using financial blackmail?

The question is who will benefit from enslaving the world. For what it's worth I believe that the answer may lay in a series of two films that I urge everyone to watch.

The first film 'The Century of the self' is in four parts

The second film 'The Money Masters' is in two parts

I know that some will say we should fight what we can see but I am a firm believer in 'know your enemy', otherwise we fight blind.

THE FIRST FILM TELLS YOU HOW.

THE SECOND FILM TELLS YOU WHY.

PLEASE CONSIDER THAT THE SECOND FILM INFORMS US THAT AMERICA AND BRITAIN FINANCED BOTH THE RUSSIAN AND CHINESE COMMUNIST REVOLUTIONS!

You may find that you have shot yourself in the foot if you come back and say. 'I haven't watched the films right through but'.....

We can beat them. If we can attract men and boys into 'our' cyberspace by means of sport, games or anything else we can somehow get our message across. To do this, I believe that we have to utilise the best talent from the Mens Movement.

Re: What is the Frankfurt School?

    Dear Disaffected,
We are talking here about the French line of deconstructionism. Not simply deconstruction of arguments to present a another idea, or simply XXXX disturbing for kicks. There are many who just love to argue and upset the cart for no paticular reason (that is present anyway).

One, or yourself, may feel you are practicing an art of some sort, but most merely love to be A-whores ( attention whores) and a few fall into the Frankfurt school or fabianist line (as rob's work pointed out). The cafe revolutionaries of France earned their rep tryoing no doubt to hold the floor at the cafe as the drank w(h)ine and smoking all evening long, impressing the groupies they hoped to bed afterwards.

Art is used now to label anything one does, and is often pathetic in trying to hold some kind of highground that is a cliche these days for those who simply follow fashion.

    Dear Pjanus,
Yes there is a good balance at Anti-M and one gets a mix of constructive positions. We try to find more Christians to take part in out think tank to give it a good social matching balance, but simply come up short of our prefer numbers of 50%.

I find most Christians to be following faith and desire to find ways to attack those rightly destroying our society. This grasping at any stake to put throught the heart of this Marxist multi-deformed thing is usually hollow.

Instead of uniting with men who admire the farsightedness of the Christian principles and have no wish to replace them with mere fashion or one generational themes, they instead feel the key is uniting the sin a lot repent a lot faith believers ( or for ex: cafeteria catholics etc.), who push reforms in churches as fast as men leave the same churches. Even evangicals are being reformed lately by ideas that say care for the poor and stay out of other issues.

You would find atheists and agnostics that know more about theology than many Christians and honor it much more to your liking above those who call themselves Christians, believe in Christs are their saviour, have blind faith this question and want to turn all the theology on its head for fashion.

By most of these Christians running with those who love faithful desire over honor, history and tradition the church continues to move away from what can save it in its never ending need to be relative to effeminates( that fill its pews). And as the book the Church Impotent clearly shows this makes men leave churches to effeminates who continue to reform the world of God (that any good Christian should should hold above claims of effemiantes who want to belong with the group at almost any price by there nature to then sin a lot and be forgiven endlessly or on their death bed. They go to church and worship programs like Desperate Housewives the 6 days of the week.

James (the brother of Christ) was right to question Saul on this, but Saul was more popular and now these types are running your religion, if recent history is any guide. Christians are still the biggest religion, but what it means to be a Chritian means less and less, beyond having faith, repenting alot after lots of sinning, or on your death bed. I feel that the Muslims will continue to gain with men, if the church ignores Saint Morris and other things that are unfashionable to todays need to make women fill the pews! What to think ( not faith) about this?

Isn't this a very precise example of what you accuse deconstructionists of doing, in that you have predetermined the "logic" you wish to affirm?

My point, perhaps not well stated, was to argue -- deconstruction is not essentially ideological, it is methodological.

It is a way of thinking, a mode of analysis, that can be employed by anyone of any political stripe --- feminists, neocons, men's activists, etc.

Both Lacan and Foucault are deconstructionists, right?

And totally in disagreement about essential theory.

    Hence, my point.

Deconstruction is neither liberal nor conservative...

It is a mode of analysis. A lens. A narrative. A myth. A strategy.

And today, it is "pop" logic, yes?

Re: What is the Frankfurt School?

    Dear Disaffected,

You said,"you have predetermined the "logic" you wish to affirm?"
Predetermined means I want this to be and build an idea around my desire ( like a tyraniical soul). I neither put forth the thread or wrote the paper. Predetermined strike-1 and 2. I grew up in a 60s world and it had every chance to win me over with the state, family, culture all pushing it with the full force. So Predetermined strike-3, your argument is out. I think you maybe have warmed to either this culture or the method and wish to say everyone uses it like I do maybe?

Detail is important here. He who uses the method second, like the allies using gas second in the WWI, aren't the same as those who use it first- or worse use it before declaring war.

You are right that it is a methodological approach in that I believe the left has its roots in effeminate nature and not the ideological put forth.

The left has been rightly called the party of mother and the right the party of father. Foxes and Lions has been used to describe these in detail from the time of the classics to James Burnham in our lifetime. Conflict and war when declared means be on your guard, and then guile is acceptable. But to go to war with those you have befriended is the women's way, for she is pathetic in direct conflict. Those who use indirect action as a one trick ponies are always effeminate- and to be found in greater numbers on the left first. Just as the bad right has prefered direct violent action more than the left.

Again by painting all as equal you are very closely matching the agenda stated in the piece. The jokes of disunity on the left are well known and so the fact that the 2 French deconstructionists, you mentioned, disagreed means little for when the Germans came they were in total agreement. they let the other lion males, that survived WWI, fight. Some might have taken up indirect war, with less direct risk again, but many more say they where in the Resistance than were. I'm sure many will say they were MRA when and if we win,a nd not looking for arguments for some kicks they have. Cafe revolutionaries have always been thus. They are always alive and the finished write the books about what they did to win the cause.

I thought I was discoursing with a theorist, not a polemicist.

I stand (against an imaginary wall) ... corrected!

Or, as Groucho Marx would say --- "I'm sorry, I have to be going..."

The first film 'The Century of the self' is in four partshttp://video.google.com/videoplay?do...ry+of+the+self

The second film 'The Money Masters' is in two parts
    http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...masters+part+2

    Pjanus,

Good videos you posted - took a while to get through them, but it was time well spent.

I had watched the Money Masters one once before, but I watched it again anyway.

Everyone should take the time to watch those two series. They are not even really "conspiracy theory", they are known FACTS.

If any of you doubt about the Central Bank being independentally owned and operated, completely out of control of the government - then you should quickly check your mutual fund investments, and pull your money back into cash, for nearly every economist & fund manager knows that the government has no control over the Central Banks and manipulates the economy. When Nobel Prize winning Economists (along with almost all other ecomists) state with conviction that Central Bankers caused the Great Depression - why does everyone without an economics degree (or complete lack of understanding of the principles of central banking) jump up and call it a conspiracy theory - IT IS FACT THAT CAN BE CHECKED! It's when people start claiming that Central Bankers are ruled by Satanic Cults/Zionism/Illuminati blah, blah, blah, that things start getting out of control.

But the FACT is that people who are un-elected and completely independent of the obligation to operate in the best interests of the country, are indeed in control our economy and monetary value because they control interests rates - and therefore can cause a boom or bust economy completely of their own will, and completely on their own timeframe. To say that none of these independent people have ever benefited from this enormous power would be to say that you have zero knowledge of human nature.

On the "Century of The Self" series - another very good series. And while it contained a lot of new information for me, it is another that I wouldn't really consider to be a "conspiracy theory." Anyone who has been involved in the profession of sales will recognize many of the principles that are discussed in the series. And hey, if we know that salespeople can affect the amount of sales they get by carefully "wordsmithing" and projecting, then it only makes sense that these techniques are used on the masses via advertising & mass media messages - and they are - these are not off the wall theories - THESE ARE FACTS!

I hope more people have watched these video series, because they are indeed very important and should be discussed without those who haven't watched as dismissing it as another tin-hat theory. In fact, "The Century of The Self" series explains quite a bit about the shift of values from the 50's to the 70's and how both consumerism and politics shifted itself from the conformity of the 50's to manipulating the new individualism of the 60's/70's into buying/voting based ON their individualism - which essentially brought them back to conformity, while believing they were individuals - Lol!

But, it is evident to me, that feminism and the left-wing have used the same principles as shown in the series to "sell their product".

Back on to conspiracies, I too wonder sometimes if we are not suffering from misdirection. Calling the Gestapo the evil that needs to be eliminated while ignoring Hitler. Though, I am not a "radical" conspiracy theorist believing in the illuminati/Satanic cults etc - there are often things that occur that make no sense to me.

An example of something that puzzles me and makes me contemplate if there are bigger forces in the background is something like our last election here in Canada:

Suddenly, out of nowhere, an issue that was not discussed in the previous election (that only occured 2 years earlier), became a platform for ALL THREE of our major parties: State Run Daycare.

And, I mean it came out of nowhere! Did the economy suddenly worsen so much that single mothers & two income families were being forced to eat from garbage cans? NO - in fact, the Canadian economy has seen its greatest increase in economic activity and increased wages in a long time!

So... did they ALL THREE bring the issue about because they were after the female voters? Hmmm... well, yes, I suppose - but if you were running for office and wanted to woo the female voter - would you copy the platform of the other guys? I wouldn't! That would completely stalemate you to a position where you could not gain votes against your opponents. I would woo the female voter by doing something different - like promising more affirmative action to get rid of the wage gap or some other feminazi myth - BUT I WOULD NOT DO THE SAME AS THE OTHER GUYS!

So what was the effect of "State Run Daycare" election? 2 Parties ran for complete state run daycare while the third ran on the platform of giving $100/month to anyone with children under the age of six - whether it was used for daycare or not, the money is given to the "families". The result? The $100/month party was the one that got voted in - the Conservative Party. This is hailed as a great move in the direction of "family rights."

Now, think about what happened here. Something that was really a non-issue was made into an issue, based on the feminist agenda. We were offered three choices BUT ALL THREE CHOICES WERE THE SAME! They ALL established the principle that Canadians are responsible for subsidizing OTHER people's children! Even though the leftists State Run Daycare didn't make it, the founding principle for State Run Daycare DID!!!! There was NO vote that reflected MY view that I am not responsible for subsidizing other people's children - NONE - I was only offered 3 varying degrees of COMMUNISM! It is only a matter of time before State Run Daycare comes into Canada for real, because the "Right Wing Pro Family Party" put into place the principle that will GUARANTEE it in the future!

This is the same as the previous election - where suddenly Gay Marriage became the central issue of the election - out of nowhere! There are not enough gay people in Canada to MAKE it an issue! And even out of the gay population, the amount that were pushing for marriage was miniscule - I believe in comparison to the entire country, it was only something like half of one percent of the population that this ground breaking destruction of marriage actually served - YET IT PASSED! And was the major issue of the election! THEY MADE IT AN ISSUE! Surely there were more important things - even things that did not "affect regular Canadians" - such as, the amount of homeless in Canada must be more than 1/2 of 1%! Surely more important of a human rights issue than two gay people being allowed to marry. Gay marriage was an issue because the political parties agreed to make it an issue - plain and simple - and that smacks of the very definition of a conspiracy!

When I see things like this happen, I truly do question what the hell is going on and if someone/thing is pulling strings from behind the stage for purposes different than the public realizes.

    Now, where's my tinfoil hat?

    Dear Disaffected,
A polemicist you say? Maybe a bit, my clan likes a direct fight. I'm certainly in too much of a hurry in my last posts for all the spelling errors I see later. Have so much to do you know.

How about you? Are you not known for stiring the pot? Or are you always this coy?

Re: What is the Frankfurt School?

    Rob,

I am really glad someone took the trouble to watch these films. I do not believe that either film mentions the word 'feminism' but, when you put the FACTS of the films together with what we know to be fact, in the world today, then there is only one obvious conclusion.

George Rolf mentions, in another thread, the enormous power that the feminist wield. You do not just acquire such power and, as you say, what possible power could half a percent of the population wield to bring about such far reaching changes to family law.

Whilst I appreciate that most members come to this forum to rant- and it is important that they do for there is nowhere else for them to do this- I am a little disappointed that more have not taken the trouble to watch these films as knowledge is power.

Now I'm off to read the Garbage Generation.

PS I wonder how many have taken the trouble to read your post on the Frankfurt School. Any chance of you writing a little piece, on a new thread, to inspire members to knowledge up.

Timocrate -- "You are right that it is a methodological approach in that I believe the left has its roots in effeminate nature and not the ideological put forth."

This kind of faux-grammar/non-logic is most puzzling.

"You are right .... yadda yadda yadda ... in that I believe...???"

Nice segue! (You are a post-modernist after all!)

Actually, I never asserted anything about your beliefs.

Nor would I want to walk down a silly illogical path arguing that a methodology of presumed leftist persuasion is "effeminate."

You have a way with words, sir.

    Only, your way is wayward....

It reminds me of my own sorry President's mode of speech.

    He so often misinterpolates....

Tony Snow his mouthpiece du jour will be gone soon.

You might wish to consider sending The Shrub a resume.

It is sad to recall that the term "wordsmith" once was a term of honor.

All of us have fallen into disrepute due to the spinmeister culture.

Words have been disconnected from thoughts; thoughts have been disconnected from logic; logic has been ....

    commodified and debased by ...

a permanent FOR SALE sign hawking integrity as a bargain.

I could be wrong. (Or, leased for the right price...)

What's the old joke --- "How many deconstructionists does it take to change a lightbulb?"
