What does the word "masculine" mean to you?

I have to admit, when I hear the word, the first things that come to mind are men's physical traits...deep voices, taller (than female) stature, facial hair, body hair, the way men walk. You know, biological attributes.

Those are the first things that come to mind.

But there is more to being "male" than merely physical traits? There is social etiquette, too, right? (Male culture?) And emotional, psychological, and spiritual traits...

    How do men view masculinity?

"Civilization can only revive when there shall come into being in a number of individuals a new tone of mind, independent of the prevalent one among the crowds, and in opposition to it- a tone of mind which will gradually win influence over the collective one, and in the end determine its character. Only an ethical movement can rescue us from barbarism, and the ethical comes into existence only in individuals."

Leadership and standing up for what is right even if it doesn't benefit you.

Re: What does the word "masculine" mean to you?

For me being a man/masculine is much more than just physical trait. It takes discipline, confident and a strong character. It means being able to stand up for yourself, family, friends, what you believe in and doesn't let others push you around or walk all over you. Thinking for yourself instead of letting other persuade you and tell how to think.

A man doesn't let his emotion control him. He doesn't get upset over minor things. He try to find solutions to problems instead of wasting time getting upset over them

A man care about his brothers/fellow man and never put women above or before men.

A man doesn't back down from a challenge.

A man doesn't buy into feminists' lies and propaganda.

Strength, honor, truth, loyalty, leadership, level headed, these are sign of being a man.

There could be more but those are what I can think of right now.

    1. Discipline/self-mastery. This is something that men *learn* but it is inherently a masculine learned trait, in that men thrive when they master themselves. The military does this. The religious orders have done it for millenia. Men thrive when they have mastered themselves.

    2. Eye on the ball/focus. Men are at their best when they keep their eye on the goal. We're quite good at being single minded and single task oriented. Keeping the eye on the ball plays to this strength. It presupposes men know who they are and what they want -- very crucial for younger men.

    3. Confidence/security. Masculinity is about being disciplined and goal oriented, as I have said, which leads to inherent self confidence and security. If a man knows who he is, what he wants, masters himself, and keeps his eye on the ball ...he will exude a confidence that is inherently masculine.

    A Man.

A sexual sub-group of Homo Sapiens, an intelligent animal resident on Sol 3.

Capable of integrating reason and endocrine-based emotion; capable of foresight; capable of recognition of external Reality, objective Truth and internal Integrity.

Has capacity to transcend natural deficiencies.

Generally fails to develop his capacities, prefering to get bogged down in minutae, play 'mine's bigger than yours' and fall for the charms of the other sub-group, woman.

There have been approximately twenty billion men so far who have lived and died. Most hadn't a friggin' clue.

    Most are hairy.

When I read your post Tera I got allot of things going through my mind, various images and concepts. I decided to read what everyone else had and I thought it was mostly positive, then I came to Percy's post just above mine and realized with a somewhat grim nod that he was dead right.

Logic: a delicate instrument used in arguement as the mental equivalent of a screwdriver.

Most often the thick end is used, for hammering 6" nails into model-makers' balsa wood strips.

A manual comes with logic, containing Tables. Truth Tables.

The manual is usually thrown away without being read.

What do you mean free from emotion? Is that a joke? Do we still have to listen to women's emotions then because that puts women above men.

A man who is free from emotion is a feminist. Compassion for your fellow man is an emotion. So is the desire to protect the rights of men ahead of us. If these emotions didn't exist men wouldn't become firefighters, police officers, doctors, soldiers and even MRA's. Feminists are free from emotion which is why they don't care who they hurt. They don't really feel it.

I think you meant free from emotional manipulation, hate, being petty etc

Re: What does the word "masculine" mean to you?

I pointed out above that men can integrate reason with emotion. It can be no other way if we are to Value anything, as value requires and drives choice as in 'what do I want'. Desire is emotional.

I am an emotional being. All men are. We get angry and we love. It is our anger and our love. Men’s emotions are real, and an integral part of us. Not the ersatz ‘sentimentality’ so often seen in immature women.

Just look at the real sorrow of a firefighter who carries out a dead child from a building. It is genuine tears he sheds.

    Men’s tears from the heart.

Look at the soldier who repels an attack and cuddles a bereft child on his knee. He cries with her.

They do their job by controlling their emotions, deploying that emotional power usefully.

    Who does the Grail serve?

An emotionless man is a psychopath.

That women are emotional creatures and we have to adapt to them is also a demand that women try to force us to wear - for their own purpose. But it is a cop-out. It has no higher purpose.

By casting that responsibility to adapt onto men it allows women licence.

By denying men an emotional aspect de-humanises men.

I am a man and I have emotions too. I laugh and cry; I can be affected by a sunset and a song. Men cry when their children are stolen by the family Courts. Our tears are not seen because we hide them.

We feel the total waste of our life’s efforts when we are dispossessed by a Judge whose heart is devoid of emotion and whose head is devoid of reson. We see men cry but only when we allow them to.

Of course we adapt to one another's emotional states. Of course we have to recognise emotion. We need to acknowledge men's emotion. But it is neither a one way street (how many times do you hear women talk about men's emotions or try to adapt to them?) nor is it the highway to happiness.

The issue is not just adaptation by men to women that damages us but the use of emotion - by modern women - to blackmail, manipulate and coerce, instead of enliven one another or comfort another or empathise with another.

Men must not follow these “women’s rules". And men must not allow the downgrading of emotion by armoured Knights wielding swords against one another and not wanting to cry at the futility.

Men’s emotion can colour our world lively with exacting brush-strokes, finely discriminating shades of detail and a pallette of hue. But modern women - and quite a few men too - use emotion like Jackson Pollock used buckets of shit. It isn’t adult.

Too many men reject emotion altogether and don armour to hide within.

    MRAs must harness their emotion.

A man is masculine when he acts manly..

That is, he tries to sort out problems for folk, has a practical nature and uses tools and inventiveness to solve problems and creates workable rules that folk can follow..

Unlike the femimine approach, which is to try and get others to do things by moaning and complaining to as many folk as possible..
