Last month, two Belgian publications reported that the Brussels police have begun an investigation into a citizen's allegations of rape -- in Second Life. (...) Unfortunately, rape in virtual spaces is not unheard of.

Re: Virtual Rape
Crap.. utter crap.

There's a huge difference between engaging a minor in sexual activity online and a 'raping' an adult.
Kids don't necessarily know what exactly they're getting involved with while it's happening and adults mostly have the common sense to either change chat-rooms, servers, isp, or whatever - they could even switch the PC off a while.

Re: Virtual Rape
I used to play FFXI (a MMO where you kick ass, unlike Second Life, where you write each other poetry and campaign for Hillary Clinton and whatnot), and people were always going around humping each others' faces and whatnot. (Some races look like they're doing a pelvic thrust when they laugh... position it just right on someone whose character is sitting, /laugh, and it looks like, well... you're humping their face.)
Pretty much everyone thought it was funny or lame... Nobody got bent out of shape about it. Except for once... I was in an experience-points party, and a Galka started humping a female character's leg between fights... There was a lot of ALL CAPS SHOUTING back and forth, and we finally kicked them both out of the party and got replacements.
That's the thing about these games... lots of juveniles playing as well.
