Titanic Anniversary-Is a man brave or condescending.....
Titanic Anniversary: Is a man brave or condescending if he lets women and children go first?
Women and children first!” Captain Edward Smith yelled to passengers and crew after the RMS Titanic struck an iceberg 100 years ago — a directive that heralded one of the last great acts of chivalry, of gentlemanly sacrifice in the face of disaster.And as the statistics show, that directive was followed: 72% of women on that ill-fated ship lived to see another day. Fifty percent of children survived. Just 19% of men made it to safety, and many of those, including ship company chairman J. Bruce Ismay, were initially reviled for appearing to put their own lives before those of women and children.
lots more;But not all women were grateful to the men who went down with the ship. “Women and children first” suggested they were a more precious and vulnerable sex with no self-determination at all, the suffragettes of the day protested. The men got to die a quick death while women were left alone and impoverished.

Re: Titanic Anniversary-Is a man brave or condescending.....
It's quite normal for a man to put women and children first. If a man can't protect something, then he does not develop any kind of bond with it. Like guy and his car. If he does not feel the need to protect it, no attachment is developed with the car. However, a guy who is attached to his car will protect it before himself.
A woman who rejects protection from the man is rejecting the man himself.Our society puts a premium on beauty; common in declining cultures.

Re: Titanic Anniversary-Is a man brave or condescending.....
This is ridiculous. Anyone who's willing to risk and/or lose their life to save another shouldn't be condemned by the peoples' whose lives they've saved. I wonder if these people are trolls.
When I do this, and I know I will, it will be comparable to the lame learning to walk, the blind being enabled to see and the suffocated breathing again. The sky isn't the limit; there are no limits.

As somone else said;
Since they'll complain about everything we might as well save ourselves the trouble of helping them.

If we did that there would be less of them to complain. On one hand people might say that our humanity shouldn't prevent us from "doing the right thing" but what is the right thing in that situation? Why is it up to us to be the sacrificial lamb for the wolves that wish to devour us via the system?
