There's been a take-over. What is a 'liberal'? It is someone who believes in a free market economy and equality of opportunity for all. It was the liberals who gave us the individual freedoms and democracies we have today -- well, in the British Empire/Commonwealth, anyway. This is why Maggie Fatcher was called a neo-liberal. But all over the net and in the media, I see loony lefty socialists, Social Democrats and neo-Marxists called 'liberals'. There's been a takeover of this pround and grand political tradition. Here in NZ, the Liberal Party (now known as Act) is still Liberal in the old sense. So is the governing Liberal Party in Australia. But it is worlds away from the Liberal Party in Canada, and the Liberal Party in the UK got taken over by Social Democrats from the Labour Party. How did this happen??? | |||
