Groups like womens aid say the 'vast majority' of victims are women, so they don't even talk about male victims. It doesn't fit their ideology of DV being a tool of the patriarchy.

I think this is actually a good idea, and I'd like to see the same thing for boys, with non-mangina male teachers. (Does excluded mean expelled?) By the time kids get to that point, they need specialized attention if they are to be saved, and separating the sexes removes a major distraction. This is especially true for this population, who seem to be more sexually active than average, as part of their problem stems from neglect and/or abuse.

I wonder if the DV shelter for men in your hometown, Victoria, allows men with children? Is it ran by men who are legitimately interested in men's right to freedom from harassment & feminist indoctrination, or will they employ people who are of the mindset that men are violent and blame him for his black eye, while questioning his relationship to his child..?

The group that is going to be running it has stated that, just like at the old building, is for men and their children, I was one of the volenteers helping on the construction before I became pregnant with this child, there were never any problems at the old building (except that hurricane Katrina came through and nearly leveled it a few years back) and all the men there said it was like a second home for them, well run, clean, no real complaints about how it was run. Too bad they don't have more shelters like this one though, goodness knows they need ones in other areas besides just this town. So far this is the only one for male DV victims in this state that I am aware of, there could be others but I only know about this one because it's in the town I live in.

Oh, forgot to add: As for the workers, they are all unpaid volunteers, I'm not sure about the male to female ratio when it comes to the volunteers, I may have to ask about that next time I see the project supervisor who is overseeing the construction, he may know.

Thank you for that useful input Victoria, and thank you for helping those men.
I have tried all my life to leave the place better than I found it. But there are 6 billion other buggers out there messing it up. I am outnumbered. But... YOU don't just make a difference, you make THE difference. ![]()

When I said workers, I meant those in a 'supportive' role... not the builders. Nonetheless, it is a great step forward.
