Ok, so school starts tomorrow for my stepson and I went to the school website to get information on his teacher and to double check that we had all the necessary school supplies. I run across the weekly schedule and it all looks fine except for one thing: Monday 12:35 - Music Tuesday 12:05 - Gym 12:35 - Music Wednesday 12:05 - Library 12:35 - Counselor every other week Thursday 12:05 - Gym Friday 12:35 - Music Can you guess which event has me scratching my head? Am I over-reacting?

Lack of sex ed? No its the Counselor every other week Thomas Jefferson once said "It takes time to persuade men to do even what is for their own good." Feminuts are stupid, throw some common sense at them. They won't know what hit them.

Correct, MANDATORY COUNSELING? Being FORCED to talk about his feelings (he's 6 for fuck sake). Really, this just feels like a "spy on parents" program and of course, no consideration for the fact: - Isn't a little girl and doesn't like to talk about his feelings - Not old enough to have any issues, not until THEY give him issues

Yes, it is the counselor that is probably some surprise and maybe cause for concern. However it may be quite harmless. I don't think it means they are going to try to delve into the psychriatric health of these young students. In the high school where I teach counselors have sessions with students concerning study habits, use of school resources, etc. And the counselors in your case may be simply helping first year students adjust to school life. I'm sure the school administratioh would be happy to talk to you about it. Or wait, maybe it isn't the counselor part that bothers you! Keep us posted. P.S. My apologies. I see you have already replied before I got this posted

Ok, I checked into it (today was open house at the school). It is not a one on one thing. It is a timeslot setup for assemblies and to put out schoolwide information to students. It is always done in large groups (classes or even the entire school gethering in the gym). Ok, I feel better now. Thanks for the replies.

Yeah, OK, um...follow up on that, as well as find out exactly what the counseling consists of. Keep checking in every month or so on an irregular schedule. Find out exactly what is being presented as factual "information". "Oh, it's just an administrative thing..." doesn't cut it thank you very much.

Is this Counsellor well briefed in the ways of Cardassians? Or is he (hah ! you wish ) /she toeing the human female party-line? Does he/she have a degree in Underwater Basketweaving from a recognised AgitProp U ?

Good grief, Tera. Is she learning anything? 10th grade is what, 16 y/o ? If my memory serves, in my 10th grade we did: Physics, Chemistry, Biology English Language, English Literature. Fench, Latin, German. Geography, UK, Commonwealth, World w/Ecomomics and Landform. History, Ancient and Modern Woodwork and Metalwork Phys Ed - lots of Rugger and Gym and Cricket. Athletics, Swimming Religious Studies (I was in a Catholic Grammar School) Music, Art (various). Plays, Opera/ Operetta ( I was a 'Gentleman of Japan' in the Mikado, I recall, and the Elephant in Aida. I was a big lad ).We didn't have a 'Den' for meetings but we did get the strap a lot between lesson periods.

In tenth grade I took trigonometry, marine biology, French, Concert Band, Psychology, Sociology, Creative Writing, Weight Training, World Lit, Health, and US History. My daughter's classes do look a bit ...well...less challenging when compared to yours (by far). Don't get me started on what I think about academics today! Let's just say I'm inclined to agree with you. I wonder if kids are really learning much of anything.
