Thumbs up Ring any bells, anyone?

This thread, created by the newsbot (RSS feeder), has a link to an online edition of The Sun newspaper. It was off topic, but having read it - I was amazed at some of the points raised and how they pertain to this very forum and others of a similar nature (MGTOW, SYG, NiceGuy, etc.)

The quotes are by Dr. Eric Schmidt (Google) as he talks about the Internet and it's impact on society.

Quote:
We no longer have to take what business, the media or indeed politicians say at face value.
Shelf space, air time, room on the pages of a newspaper — these used to determine which artists got their records played, what TV shows we watched and which elite opinions appeared in print.
Not surprisingly, people are using that power to buy better value goods and services, to hold others to account and, above all, to express themselves.
History has proven that we have the ability and ingenuity to solve problems and improve our lives if only we are given the freedom to do so. And that’s exactly what the Internet does
.

Out of the gloom a voice spake unto me. 'Smile and be happy, Things could get worse."
So I smiled and was happy, and behold... Things did get worse.

As I said to Celtic Druid in another thread:

There is a simple way to breach the internet sanctuary. Dutch leftist intellectuals have already been pleading for it: remove anonymity. If authors' real names and addresses are easily traceable, you can intimidate quite a lot of them. You can threaten their livelihood, a standard tactic amongst feminists. I wouldn't be surprised if, when women take over the political bodies, this would be one of the first things they do.

I hope that never happens.

I fear anonymity and free expression on the Internet will not last much longer. It has given a voice to those who otherwise would not speak out for fear of the thought police. Such free expression opposed to the "right-thinking" championed by the elites will be silenced in the name of "decency," "progress," "tolerance," etc.

Re: Ring any bells, anyone?

Big mistake on their part if they do, it is the one refuge that we have to speak freely. It also is in my view a safety valve for men from all walks of life differing outlooks. The folks here are ordinary moderate common sense people, thats all we are. Could we be such a threat to them?

Hopefullly the cat is out of the bag - and there will also be a technical way round it if they try to silence what is after all merely a call for fairness, honesty, justice and an end to hatred.
I hope you will all keep us posted on any developments on this.

feminism is a disease the Doc is working on a cure. Symptoms include compulsive liar, constant aggression, allergic to logic, often affects women who are fat with short hair and big earings, but can be normal looking.
Reason tablets three taken daily. If the sufferer displays shaming tactics double the dose. Remarkably the illness disappears in disaster zones.

Well, there's one positive thing about this: the intellectuals themselves also often prefer to maintain the anonymity.

Re: Ring any bells, anyone?

Here we go, the end of internet anonymity in Brazil.

"The Brazilian senate is considering a bill that will make it a crime to join a chat, blog, or download from the Internet without fully identifying oneself first. Privacy groups and Internet providers are very concerned, and are trying to lobby against the bill, but it seems they won't have much success." (From slashdot)

Re: Ring any bells, anyone?

According to Brazilian posters on Slashdot, the law was proposed by the opposition party and is not likely to be passed.
