This is a discussion on Reputation within the Chit chat (MAIN) anti misandry forums, part of the Introduction to anti misandry category; I've noticed some folks are using the rep function as a tool of contempt rather than a opinion marker here. ...

I've noticed some folks are using the rep function as a tool of contempt rather than a opinion marker here. Please stop doing that.

If the reputation function continues being misused then it'll be enabled for positive reps only again... meaning when truly offensive posts are made, there will be no means of affecting reputation accordingly, and even 'bad members' will have only good reputation to look at.

The most offensive thing you can do to a feminist is treat her with FULL equality.
Wife : "I dreamt they were auctioning off dicks. The big ones went for ten dollars and the thick ones went for twenty dollars."
Husband : "How about the ones like mine?"
Wife : "Those they gave away."
Husband : "I had a dream too...I dreamt they were auctioning off pussy. The pretty ones went for a thousand dollars, and the little tight ones went for two thousand."
Wife : "And how much for the ones like mine?"
Husband : "That's where they held the auction."

That's a good idea, Marx. I think you had it set up that way in the past? Even if neg reps are disabled, there are still ways that "bad members" can be dealt with.

I'm not in the habit of neg-repping anyone...even those I truly disagree with. It's not my style. However, when someone attacks me with neg reps (more than once, in a short period of time, just for spite), I have been known to return the favor. Letting it go, unchecked, invites more of the same. That's been my experience/observation.

I like the positive rep only idea because no one can abuse the system, and having to return neg reps for neg reps (to stop the cycle) then becomes a non-issue.

    Just a thought.

"Civilization can only revive when there shall come into being in a number of individuals a new tone of mind, independent of the prevalent one among the crowds, and in opposition to it- a tone of mind which will gradually win influence over the collective one, and in the end determine its character. Only an ethical movement can rescue us from barbarism, and the ethical comes into existence only in individuals."

"Until he extends his circle of compassion to include all living things, man will not himself find peace."
    -Albert Schweitzer

    Seconded Tera.

Rep points are going the way of the Zimbabwean Dollar. Time for a little fiscal intervention.

i usually hand out only positive reps and very rarely(maybe once) hand out neg reps.

Actually i could care less about "rep" points at all

I received two in the space of 90 minutes, one of them for writing,
"Way to go, Billy! A much-needed thread. Good for you!"; both from the same individual. My experience has been I cannot give another member two reps, good or bad, within that span of time. I'm told to spread them around instead.

It's easy to become embroiled in a protracted series of tit for tat negative repping - which yields nothing beneficial, and ultimately only serves to detract from any meaningful debate.

So, I'd ask folks to resist the temptation (compulsion?) to do so, only in scenarios whereby you could logically justify that the action was proportionate and fair.

Let us conduct ourselves in a refined and dignified manner without having to indulge in puerile tactics.

    This is quite bizarre.

You've just given me negative rep.

    Could you explain this?

    Not at all funny though.

Humour is always subjective isn't it?

If it's some kind of strange test to see if I will retaliate (tit for tat) by giving you a negative rep, thus contradicting my post, you'll be sadly mistaken.

You've only contributed towards the argument to turn off negative repping altogether, and just facilitate positive repping.

My estimation of you has just depreciated somewhat.

    I see.

Rather than dwell on this inappropriate prank, it'll be best forgotten and consigned to the AM bin of misguided buffoonery.
