Ahuh, i recall a huge uproar about this device when it was first conceived. A lot pondered whether it was a hoax or not, but here it is in the flesh - no pun intended.

I have also heard about it and one of the posters suggested that to overcome this barbaric invention (by a women ofcourse) would be to insert the female's finger into the trap and ensure maximum pain. Brilliant invention, goes up there with the remote shoes and u-boat lights.

I just loved the pic lg. I'm circulating it among the ex-pats - just to revive some old jokes. Nobody forgets the Spanish Inquisition!! Even more useful was the portrait of the inventor who needs a rape-prevention device like a fish needs a bicycle..... but perhaps it's different in South Africa. I wouldn't know. The traditional male weapons in the sex war are non-cooperation and flight. The traditional female weapon is celebration of paternity and male responsibility. If women now choose to define this as patriarchal oppression, they are throwing away their best trick. Feminism, in dismantling patriarchy, is simply reviving the underlying greater natural freedom of men. - Geoff Dench 1998 (edited)

According to the BBC, SA is considered the rape capital of the world.

Surely the problems with this are that all a real rapist would need to do is remove it before doing anything else, and it could easily be abused by a woman who wanted to take revenge on her boyfriend or husband (who wouldn't expect it to be there).

The thing is evil. BAD!! Good for nothing. There is nothing good to say about it. If it actually starts getting marketed, it will raise one hell of a shitstorm.... "Professional" rapists will catch on to it quickly.(No pun intended!) PLENTY of innocent men will get hurt by it one way or another. It will be interesting to hear what the feminist establishment says about it.

it will still be looked upon as 'he said/she said' though. In fact, as this device was borne out of a will to not only deter, but to prove a man attempted rape, the sway will almost definately be on her side. Hence, men will soon need to be recording consent and agreement on their phones, pda's, whatever technology they may have at that moment.

This will have an enormous chilling effect on man-woman relations. It will cast a long, icy shadow! And again, a lot of innocent men will suffer. And not just innocent men, but "innocence" in the larger sense...... The world will become a more unfriendly place all around. And yes, it will STILL be a question of "he said/she said", since there is STILL no way that "she" can definitively prove that "he" raped her. Let's hope that this goes hideously awry, and that a few well-publicized lawsuits follow..... And I still want to hear what the feminist pundits have to say on this, especially as time goes by. ANYTHING they choose to say (including silence) will be politically dicey for them....!
