Yesterday 30 MEN in New York City lifted a bus off a pregnant woman, saving her baby. I have seen various versions of this story. When it first broke yesterday, the word "men" appeared in the titles and in the stories. Today, most of the news accounts have changed "men" to "passersby" or some such gender neutral description. While it is possible that the news outlets have determined there was a set of ovaries or two among all those heroic testicles, I suspect that the use of the term "men" struck some pc copy editors as politically incorrect because it unnecessarily signaled male heroism -- and worse, male heroism rescuing a helpless female, about as politically incorrect as you can get. (When the make the move version, it'll be a mixed gender crowd lifting the bus off an old man.) Notice when an alleged murder or rape or robbery occurs, you invariably see the word "man" in the first sentence of the news story. When a rescue occurs, they go out of their way to make the description gender neutral. They refuse to give the devil his due. Male heroism is, of course, another side -- and a very prominent side -- of the male testosterone prism that includes male aggression and male competitiveness and the enhanced male sex drive. One of the few news outlets that still refer to the "men" in the story is set forth below. In case they change the story, I am reprinting it. The link is below: 30 men lift bus to save baby in New York 16 hours ago NEW YORK (AFP) — About 30 men lifted a schoolbus to save a pregnant woman struck by the bus, enabling the baby to be born before the woman died of her injuries, the New York Post said Friday. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg paid tribute to the victim, Donnette Sanz, 33, a traffic cop who was off duty when she was hit Thursday by the bus in the city's Bronx section. "It is a terrible poignancy that Donnette's son's birthday will now coincide with the day his mother died. She gave her life in service to our city," the mayor said. "A superhuman effort by 30 strangers who lifted the vehicle off her body miraculously saved her baby before she died," the New York Post said. "We did not really communicate, we all just started lifting. We lifted it up and someone pulled her out," Madalina Diaz, 42, told the paper. The woman, six months pregnant, was rushed to the hospital, where the baby was born by caesarian section a few minutes before she died. http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5...n6RCNfS0Nv3KPg

When we men fail to act as heroes, we get criticized. Women failing to act as heroines generates no criticism for women, however. Also, when there is an unknown suspect the police are looking for, the media always use the male pronouns- he, him. They never say things such as "The police are looking for a suspect in connection with the murder of John Smith. He/she could be in the Jonesville area. Police want anyone with information about him/her to call 1-800-....." This is one of the few situations in which feminists do NOT insist upon gender neutral language being used. There is no greater misfortune for a man than to be governed by his wife: in such case he is neither himself nor his wife, he is a perfect nonentity. Napoleon

This story gives me goosebumps (in a good way)....each one of those men deserves recognition for what they did. They are heroes...every one.

But we aren't "allowed" to be collectively heroes anymore as it offends the PC brigade.

Maybe we should write to the paper or station that published this and ask that these men be shown recognition for what they've done? I just wrote a letter to the editor asking that these men be given the honor they deserve. Here is the link to the New York Post's letters to the editor if you are interested in submitting one yourself. http://www.nypost.com/postopinion/le...ers_editor.htm

MEN (tm) definitly, and call it loud and clear. But heroes? No. There is nothing heroic about lifting a bus along with 29 other bus-lifting chaps. Best keep the 'Hero' tag for heroes and recognise that the ordinary things that men do are good enough for recognition and acknowledgement without diluting terms of exceptionality. I have tried all my life to leave the place better than I found it. But there are 6 billion other buggers out there messing it up. I am outnumbered. But... YOU don't just make a difference, you make THE difference. ![]()

Yanno that 'Heroes" programme (Sci-Fi) where they all have some unique & wonderful gift? One can read minds, one can fly, one can absorb other's powers, one can heal instantly, and so on..? Well I have 'Heroes" powers too. I can make people fall asleep, even when they're not tired and have just woken from a decade-long coma. Yes! I begin by talking about my childhood....

Just watch any science documentary. If the team consists of 15 men and one woman, it's the woman who gets interviewed. They just have to encourage girls and deny boys yet more role models.
If the main aim of the BBC is to destroy male confidence and boost female confidence, they are a great success Adverts attack male confidence like castration by a million tiny cuts
