I was out in the car, earlier, and caught part of the Jeremy Vine show on BBC Radio 2. They were discussing whether people in the UK/West should have a limit on the number of children they are allowed. They examined the policy of China where only one child per couple are allowed. I understand that in, rural areas, some are allowed, for a fee, two children to help work the land. If a woman already has a child and becomes pregnant abortions are enforced (this is a bit simplified for the sake of brevity). Whilst there is some dissent most Chinese are in favour of this policy, as their is simply not enough land to go around. What surprised me was the number of listeners who phoned or e-mailed that they were in favour of this policy for the West. Children were even referred to as 'pollutants' Have we become that brainwashed or am I wrong and you agree with this? There is a, three part, BBC documentary called 'The Power of Nightmares' where they examine the way politicians now operate. The documentary is made by the same people who made 'The Century of the Self', acclaimed as the best documentary ever. 'In the past politicians promised us a better world. When this failed to materialise people lost faith in ideologies and increasingly see politicians as just managers. To restore their power, politicians, now promise to protect us from nightmares, dreadful dangers that we cannot see and do not understand.' Well worth watching if you have the time. #1 #2 #3 Last edited by Marx; 28th-June-2007 at 08:01 PM.. Reason: google code

Certainly looks good from the bit I could view. Sadly, google & youtube have been very touchy of late (for me, at least) so watching it in full was almost impossible.

Actually, it is far more plausible that global warming has been the result of fluctuations in the sun's solar radiation output than as a result of man's neglible green house gas influence of roughly 3.5%. Don't believe me? Do a search on your favourite search engine for the following: global warming on mars, global warming on pluto, global warming on jupiter and global warming on triton. None of these planets/moons, to the best of earthling knowledge, is a repository for SUVs and industrial output. Kyoto, global warming, the whole thing is a sham. Actually, if we wait 40 years, the temperature will cool as the sun's radiant output decreases - we are now leaving the height of the sun's warm period. CO2 increases FOLLOW global warming, they do not precede it. Global Warming effects on other planets should give even the most brainwashed among us pause to reflect. The biggest greenhouse gas, water vapour, isn't even included in the United Nations Statistics! AND, when Al Gore tells you that this is the warmest period in history, you ask him how many vineyards there are in Greenland today... Or why there is more snow and Ice build up occuring in Antarctica, when it all should be melting into the sea. Still, sending money in the form of pollution credits via Kyoto to communist China so that they can fire up more coal power generation plants, (They have now surpassed the US as the number 1 polluter in the world and are wholly exempt from the Kyoto Accord), can only be a good thing. Afterall, intelligent observation suggests we may be headed for a global cooling period, in which case all that coal they pump into the air with our money, might help forstall the coming iceage. It's called seizing global power through global panic. Luckily for you and I, the stars are on our side, even if the politicians and the press aren't.

Yep, I recall reading similar too. Apparently, the Sun 'breathes' in & out... the last few years it has been breathing 'out' (expanding, like a chest) but only fractions of a fraction - but enough to cause environmental changes on it's surrounding bodies. It's about to start it's breathing 'in' part anytime soon, and so it'll get a lil' chillier.. Oh well.

Well if we want to control birthrates maybe we should make it less profitable for women to divorce multiple times and make it less profitable for these women to have multiple children with multiple fathers. I bet if we do that then the birthrate will dip slightly for a little while.
