Open Question: Why are feminists known as sexists?

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...6212505AAbuP0V Open Question: Why are feminists known as sexists?

    From Yahoo Answers
I read and grew up learning that a feminist is someone who believes that women should be equal to men and things like that. But I always see people saying bad things about them and calling them sexist. This is the definition I found: Feminism is a collection of movements aimed at defining, establishing, and defending equal political, economic, and social rights and equal opportunities for women.[1][2][3] Its concepts overlap with those of women's rights. Feminism is mainly focused on women's issues, but because feminism seeks gender equality, some feminists argue that men's liberation is therefore a necessary part of feminism, and that men are also harmed by sexism and gender roles. Feminists are "person[s] whose beliefs and behavior[s] are based on feminism."[4] So wouldn't someone who wants women to have more rights and better treatment be considered sexist and not a feminist? I'm so confused. I called myself a feminist when I was younger and would get dirty looks. I'm not better than any man, I'm their equal and this is just what I was taught. But what most of you are saying what a feminist does, would collide with the definition of feminism. So they WOULDN'T be feminists, they would be sexists.

The word Religion meant to bind, and Gay once meant Happy... It is funny how so many are still oblivious to what feminism is... Look back in history and suffragettes/women's rights activists thought feminists were crazy. Now the terms are androgynous thanks to the subtle way feminism has taken over...
