Open Question: Did I unknowingly support grassroots feminism?
Open Question: Did I unknowingly support grassroots feminism?
From Yahoo Answers
The other day I was heading to my local Starbucks and there were two young girl scouts camped out in front selling their fund raising "Girl Scout Cookies". I have to admit, they had everything set up so orderly and were very enthusiastic. Also they looked adorable in their little uniforms. When they asked me "Mister, would you like to buy some cookies?" , my immediate thought was to purchase two boxes to support their cause....but then I realized that1) I don't like sweets2) Their sales pitch was rather weak from a professional standpoint, not showing me any value in buying "what's in it for me"3) It seemed they were relying solely on their "cuteness" instead of quality of product, benefits, etc.4) They were ridiculously overpriced for what you get....I flatly and coldly told them "Not interested!" as I would any salesman who did not motivate me to buy his product. When their supervising mothers gave me a dirty look, I just winked and nodded, knowing I had done them a great service in their quest for equality....hatrick - can't know...boy scouts don't sell cookies that I am aware of...a.s.a.p. - EXACTLY my point....insted of relying on being cute, those girls should have done a little market research and stocked up on Milkbones....got to know your customers!

Hahahahaha...funny

Ridiculous.
But then, "What's in it for me" is a selfish trait in some.
Fancy saying it to little girls.

Re: Open Question: Did I unknowingly support grassroots feminism?
the Yahoo dude was applying Caveat Emptor - let the buyer beware

us guys should ask ourselves this question - what does the typical
wimyn or little girl ever do gladly for us !!!
the answer is three times more than they done for us yesterday
wimyn typically request or demand favours which are hardly ever requitted or to perform tasks for thankless nothing
such is their wont

Re: Open Question: Did I unknowingly support grassroots feminism?
When buying something, "What's in it for me" is not a selfish thought. Smart spending is based on asking such a question. I wouldn't have given a donation to the Girl Scouts either.
I have always had a problem with corporations using children to make money. How much money do the Girl Scout cookies pull in annually...a million, 2 million, more? Here in the US we have child labor laws but somehow they don't apply to corporations making cookies.
Even worse, the cookies are WAY overpriced, they are REALLY taking advantage of having cute little girls as slave paid employees.
Further, the OP is correct. All the Girl Scouts are doing is teaching little girls to sell their looks. A lesson they will likely use later in life to separate a man from his money.

Re: Open Question: Did I unknowingly support grassroots feminism?
BTW, I decided to look up any ties between the Girl Scouts and feminism. I found this from WND, not the best source but you read it and decide:
Girl Scouts exposed: Lessons in lesbianism
Communists, radical feminists cited as role models for troops

When many parents think of Girl Scouts, they imagine young girls in uniform selling Thin Mints and Tagalong cookies – not learning about stone labyrinths, world peace, global warming, yoga, avatars, smudging incense, Zen gardens and feminist, communist and lesbian role models.
But that's exactly what many of 2.7 million Girl Scouts will learn about with a new curriculum called "Journeys" released last year.

Re: Open Question: Did I unknowingly support grassroots feminism?
Feminists often whore out their kids.. We in the UK seem in the last 20 or so years taken on board that disgusting US tradition of "trick or treat", whereby the local single mother slappers supplement their state subsidence and stolen from daddy money by sending their kids out dressed up to scrounge off the locals..
Of course, I would bet they dont send the kids to their fathers homes!

Re: Open Question: Did I unknowingly support grassroots feminism?
I tend to give the scrounging kids a few pence, after all, they could be my kids for all I know!

Re: Open Question: Did I unknowingly support grassroots feminism?
When my brother played soccer representing Australia, we as a family had to come up with his travel money. All of us collected money. I don't think we were being used for child labour.
But maybe this is because it is a girl thing. If they got the money from the government men will complain. If they work for it men will complain. If they fund raise men will complain. Little girls suffer because men can't win with big girls.
I have sooooo graduated from the men's forums.Ignorance is the Oppressor, Vigilance the Liberator.

Re: Open Question: Did I unknowingly support grassroots feminism?
Uh, it's not the girls making the money, it's the corporations. The rewards they get for selling all those cookies are minimal. Your comparison is not valid.
Think about it this way:
A) The Boy Scouts hold a car wash to make money for a trip they are going to take. The money they make funds a trip that THEY go on, the boys benefit from their labor.
B) The Girl Scouts sell cookies but not for themselves, for a corporation who gives them small rewards while it pockets hundreds of thousands (or millions) of dollars. Who benefits more from that arrangement? The girls or the corporations? There is word for this, exploitation!
