Its true that they try to slip stuff like this into children's television. I remember seeing a few minutes of a film was sister was watching about a little blond American girl playing American football with the guys. God it was ridiculous, she was taking down boys three times her size without breaking a sweat, these same guys were then congratulating her and it was implied that they were realizing how foolish their beliefs about girls were and that she was earning their respect. In the background played some insipid song, the main lyrics of which were something like ''girls can do anything''.

The thought that if this was not a movie any one of those boys could simply have brushed her aside with little difficulty was one I kept to myself.

Myce I don't think anyone beleives girls can't skate. When I was young there was very very few of them and they tended to do freestyle and street but not half pipe,quarter pipe,and launching. This girl was doing a mix of freestyle and street but she looked strong enough and confident enough for the others styles. And her little flub ups were nothing that even the big name pro skaters don't make. Overall I thought she was very good[better than I ever got anyway]. I do think girls don't get into skating much because nasty looking injuries are quite common boys seem to hold scabs and grinder reminder,road rash all in high regard like badges of honor. I think girls are not as into comparing road rash results as boys are. The over all point though is there in no need for female empowerment shows. We see this in real life but the femmes are impatient for some reason and feel they need to bludgeon us over the head with this propaganda.

I think it goes without saying that most tv shows are dumb and I agree with your point that propagandizing is unnecessary. I don't believe many boys are sexist, and a girl has to prove herself just like boys have to prove themselves. But you know, girls like to see strong female characters just like boys like to see strong hero characters. So somewhere there is a line between propagandizing and just appealing to a female audience.

I was the first Canuck I knew of to board. I had a Califorian neighbour who got me into it and we hit the sand covered roads in summer. We developed our own Kamazae style by going down a road that was as steep as they come that ended in a dead end where we went flying through the air to land on thrown together stuff to cushion our fall. We wore helmits and some kids ended up in the hospital. I can still do a 900 degree spin, but need a warm up, but we had no pools and that other stuff was still to come along later.

The girls were afraid of what we did and we were out on a branch doing something no one had ever seen before us. It must become organized, get one status quo attention, be accepted by cliques and then women will bless it with their lesser efforts.

Just once I'd a woman to lead the pack with something dangerous, where she looks bad and is bad mouthed by some to most and doesn't concern herself with the any clothe or what she looks like.

Elmilya Airheart (SP) was such a female, she had the heart and mind, but not the body to get it done. Still she is what women should be looking to to be real equals and not Paris Hilton types. Then again Paris might have kids and Airheart didn't! One git had a steel wheeled board and was as loud as a you can imagine rolling down the street. We told him to get a new board for we could hear ourselves think. We also had a kind of rollar ball ( contact boarding game) we played. We were called the boarding party (naval guys get it?). Still like that name heeps!
