New Vodafone Advert Is Just Wonderful
I saw this yesterday and was very glad I did. I think this is one of the very few adverts that show men/fathers in a really good light, and also an honest light.
As someone who hates the blatant misandry in adverts, this was very refreshing to see, so much so, that I felt I should highlight it on this site.

Re: New Vodafone Advert Is Just Wonderful
Ah yes, I caught this last night and intended to post about it but got distracted with going out for a ride on the motorbike with a couple of friends... Yes, it's a good advert in one way, on the other hand it kinda suggests dads need to drop everything - even crucial moments of their career - to tend to the women in their life (in this case, his daughter). Saying that... I'm very fond of my daughters, and probably would.
It's certainly an improvement on some of Vodaphone's previous depictions of a father.►My blog / Your Blog

Husband : "How about the ones like mine?"
Wife : "Those they gave away."
Husband : "I had a dream too...I dreamt they were auctioning off pussy. The pretty ones went for a thousand dollars, and the little tight ones went for two thousand."
Wife : "And how much for the ones like mine?"
Husband : "That's where they held the auction."

I'm not sure about this, is it saying “look how great a dad can be dropping everything to comfort his daughter” or is it saying “not even the most important event in your career so far is as important as your daughter feelings”.
She hasn't been diagnosed with a life threatening illness, she's broke up with her (apparently selfish and unsympathetic
) boy friend, ironically she doesn't seem to have the faintest clue what's going on in her dad's life but hey why should she, he's just a dad. Those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber. ~Plato

Re: New Vodafone Advert Is Just Wonderful
I'm taking the positives from the advert.
I agree with Marx, if it wasn't his daughter, the advert would have been piss-poor. It shows a father's love for his daughter comes above anything else, comforting her takes priority over everything, which I believe is true to life. Also very realistic is the way he claims he wasn't doing anything, to ensure his daughter doesn't feel guilty, and the same can certainly not be said about women, they'd rub it in your face that you interrupted something important (yes, I'm generalising, but come on).
Also worthy of note, is the fact that the man is able to look like a good man, without having to be surrounded by women who are arseholes, can the same be said for ANY woman who looks good in an advert?
You could analyse it to bits, and I'm sure you could find anything, but if it was "typical", he would only be going because his nagging wife ordered him to.Hugh & Mary Discuss Feminist Related Issues (ALL SUBTITLED): http://www.youtube.com/view_play_lis...0081D259987DCD
